Ooh do share when you get a pic beauty. I must crack on with mine, it's just finding the time at the moment when I don't have a child wrapped round my neck haha

beautyisfoundwithin · 23/07/2020 20:09

It's raining right now, but I'll try to remember to take a photo tomorrow.

As for the Sweet Peas, thank you 😊 - I sowed just over 100 seeds 😬 at the beginning of March (of course not all of them made it, plus I did give 20 to my neighbour as she always comments on how much she loves them in my garden). I've read lots about how it's better to sow them in autumn/winter, but it's not really an option for me as I come back to the UK to visit family for several weeks around Christmas time, so I wouldn't be able to care for them. I don't have a greenhouse so I germinate them all indoors. I bought some root trainers for them a couple of years ago, which I would definitely recommend!

This year has been really slow though with the weather not being as good as normal, and with the unbelievable, unrelenting slug attacks. This time last year I had several vases full (photo attached) whereas this year I haven't managed one full vase yet 😤

Gorgeous! They almost don't look real they're so pretty !!

DDemelza · 24/07/2020 06:03

They don't look real, no. They look like origami from tissue paper. So lovely.

ThursdayLastWeek · 24/07/2020 07:55

Ooh those white sweet peas are gorgeous beauty.

Do any of you have particular varieties you like? I just grabbed a pack of T&M seeds and didn’t keep the packet so have no idea what I’m growing!

DDemelza · 24/07/2020 10:52

A 32-pack of root trainers and three varieties of sweet pea seed seem to have magically materialised in my Amazon basket.🤔

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 24/07/2020 12:23

Ooh I love sweetpeas, I didn't sow any this year (because a: I didn't have any and b: I'm normally too inconsistent with watering to do well with them). 'Terry Wogan' as a variety are lovely, but there are so many to choose from.

Todays pics, a view from the patio (because I mowed the lawn Wink), an unnamed orange rose and my houseleek on the doorstep which is flowering Smile

Lost the rose- won't let me have it!

beautyisfoundwithin · 24/07/2020 13:53

Thanks everyone 😊

😂 @DDemelza! Sorry if I was a bad influence!

I don't really have much knowledge about the different varieties but I do buy lots of different ones, I have a bit of a problem resisting if I see a new variety I like the look of! 😆

The pinky-purple one in the photo yesterday is a Matacuna, there're supposed to be one of the most highly scented. I usually also plant a mixed batch called Mammoth Mix (you can also buy Mammoth variety seeds by individual colour choice though) which are much bigger blooms but less scented. That way I have a nice mix of show and smell. The white one was a Royal Family White. I found one called Spanish Dancer that looked lovely, but the slugs ate that whole batch 😡

Lovely @RaptorInaPorkPieHat

AnneKipanki · 24/07/2020 14:49

Seems like we've waited forever for this beauty to flower! It's absolutely heaving with buds. Under planted with salvias and lavender. Just love it 😍

@DDemelza 🤣🤣.

I discovered a fabulous nursery today about a 20 minute drive from home, totally different to the usual Dobbies etc, owned and run by a local family (who happen to live in a beautiful country house with the most lovely gardens). So many new things to buy as well as old favourites and all incredibly well priced! It seemed rude not to fill two baskets with gorgeous plants 😘. I took a couple of photos while I was there too.

@catwithflowers 20 minutes away, what a discovery Shock
Is your rose a 'Golden Celebration'?

😂 at the ''shelf of doom'' @beautyisfoundwithin Although, none of those look like they belonged there Smile

Beebumble2 · 24/07/2020 17:24

Beautiful photos, I love sweet peas, they seem to have done well this year.
catwithflowers aren’t private nurseries so much better than the commercial sort. You can find really unusual varieties.

A bit of a lockdown experiment- I had some Clary, Calendula and Statis seeds, not the most inspiring, but I sowed them together to make a drift
.
I think it has a meadow like quality, even if it is contrived.

What a great find @catwithflowers! I bet it will become somewhat of a regular for you now! That Rose is gorgeous, and so many buds too!

No @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet, they were all in perfect condition, I don't understand it 🤷🏼‍♀️ To be honest I had to exercise my self control as there was so much there for no apparent reason and I wanted it all! 😆

Lovely experiment @Beebumble2

Also love "show and tell" 😁

AnneKipanki · 24/07/2020 18:44

Some fantastic photos. What a find , that nursery in the country house .
I do not have much to add .

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet David Austin's Roald Dahl. The colour is a little darker than we thought but I love it 😍

catwithflowers · 24/07/2020 18:53

@Beebumble2 I've been looking for some Solomon's Seal for ages and they had it at the nursery for about £3 😳 I also bought a couple of beautiful bergamot plants for the herb garden. I managed to squeeze them in somehow 🙈
