DDemelza · 22/07/2020 22:32

Ooh cat, any more pics of that divine pond?I am hoping to dig my own next spring.

@DDemelza I can't take any credit for the pond I'm afraid as it was here in the garden long before I came to live here. I've enjoyed watching it over the last year, so many different plants at different times and the bird and insect life it brings to the garden is amazing. I love the wild marjoram planted or maybe just self-seeded around it. We have a couple of pretty water lilies too.

I've made a list somewhere of plants I've seen in and around it which I'll try to find and post it here for you 😊

Another pond picture in memory of our lovely cat who went missing a few weeks ago. We think maybe a fox got her 😢. She liked to watch the fish in the pond (and probably ate a few 🙈).

It is a gorgeous pond @catwithflowers! I bet it's very relaxing to watch the wildlife.

beautyisfoundwithin · 23/07/2020 10:36

So sorry to hear about your cat 😢

caringcarer · 23/07/2020 10:44

Some very pretty gardens. I am quite envious as mine is well worn out after kids playing on it lawn.

applecatchers36 · 23/07/2020 10:56

So sorry to hear of your cat she looks like she enjoyed a good life in your beautiful garden

DDemelza · 23/07/2020 11:04

Cat, it's a truly lovely pond, and I would so appreciate a list of plants if you come across it. So sorry about your lovely moggy- fingers crossed for a miraculous return.

Today I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of this lovely pink cornflower in among all the blue ones (which need deadheading, as I have been too busy to garden much this week. I feel this pink cornflower is my garden's attempt to seduce me back.😁)

(Second photo to show where pink cornflower appeared, in a scraggly patch of non blooming cosmos and blue cornflowers wind-toppled and undeheaded. The garden is definitely saying, COME BAAAACK!)

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/07/2020 14:44

Fingers crossed for cat - they do often like to put the fear up us with no good reason. Also those cherries look unreal, do they tase as good as they look?

About a month into lockdown I googled and came out with Marigolds...mine are sooooooo close to showing me their flowers but the sun has gone in here after a glorious few days.

That is a very cool pink cornflower, I do wish I had room for wild flowers.

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/07/2020 14:46

I also love the term 'shelf of doom'.

catwithflowers · 23/07/2020 16:14

Thanks for all the good wishes and crossed fingers for our cat. She's never roamed before and has survived busy roads, three house moves (including one international 😳) but in her twelve years, this is the first time she has been a country cat surrounded by fields rather than cars. She has had a fabulous life, though obviously I'm really hoping she turns up.

@DDemelza here are some of the plants around the pond. I'm not sure how many were intentionally planted or how many just found their way there but they are all thriving!

Common tansy (v tall with yellow flowers)
Purple cinqfoil
Honesty
Fox geranium/storksbill
Yellow marsh marigolds
Interrupted fern (such a cool name, I had to google that one!)
Ivy (evil stuff)
Foxgloves which seem to get everywhere
Lady's Mantle (also grows like a weed in our garden!)
Water lilies x 2

There will be more but that's what I have seen and made a note of so far 😊. The rain has finally stopped so I'm going to have a little wander round the garden!

beautyisfoundwithin · 23/07/2020 16:45

Lovely Cornflowers @DDemelza, especially the appearance of the pink one. I've tried Cornflower seeds a couple of times but never had any luck.

Your cat sounds like a toughie @catwithflowers, my fingers are crossed too.

Some of my Sweet Peas from today.

Fingers crossed for your cat here too cat 🤞🏻
Beauty I love your pallet project !! I have a pallet sitting on the decking waiting to be revamped into some sort of plant 'wall'. Them sweet peas, the colour is striking!

beautyisfoundwithin · 23/07/2020 18:34

Thanks @popgoesperfection! I love what you can do inexpensively with pallets. I've also got another pallet plant 'wall' that is half herbs and half garden tools storage, I must remember to take a photo though!

Sweet Peas are my absolute favourite, so I may end up sharing far too many of them! 😆

DDemelza · 23/07/2020 18:48

Cat, thanks for the list. Lots of inspiration there, and lots of my favourite plants, as it happens.

I'd love to see the pallets, too. DH has agreed to make me something but I don't know exactly what it is I want him to make.:D

Those sweet peas are heartbreakingly beautiful, beauty. How many sowings do you do, and when?

AnneKipanki · 23/07/2020 18:51

I have a pallet ! The plan was to burn it BUT now that I have seen your efforts , I might change my mind .
