☺️ Thankyou @BewareTheBeardedDragon

Aw poor thing, I hope he managed to get back to his home 🤞🏻
@WobblyLondoner I love all that luscious greenery !!

WobblyLondoner · 19/07/2020 13:38

Thank you! @BewareTheBeardedDragon, I've had it for a few years now but it's really shot up this year now that I've realised how much it benefits from lots of water (it's in quite a dry border). That's one of my main challenges - much of it is overhung so little rain gets through.

@IKillMyPlantsToDeath

I thought this thread couldn't get any better and then there was the mole!!

@GiantKitten Thank you for the Gardening Express link, I have ordered that box, perhaps foolishly as a newbie Blush I like to go hard or go home with my hobbies Grin I shall report back. Seeing as I'll likely kill them anyway, £5 is good to have Practice Plants.

Have also ordered large pots for my hydrangeas. Am hoping to share my own photo soon!

@IKillMyPlantsToDeath oooh, good luck with the bumper bundle, do report back!

Here are my potted hydrangeas. My pots are really quite small, & they’ve been in them a few years!

The big round pink ones are in the blue pot, the mauvey ones (getting bluer every day Confused) & the green/red ones are 2 separate plants in the pinkish pot. (These also a newer small one in front, which is supposed to be true blue Angry)

Pics here from the RH pinkish pot.
These are on a NNE-facing wall, which is obviously very gloomy in the winter, but for much of the summer they do get any early sun. There was loads, for once, in April & May this year which I think is partly why they’re so voluminous. (I did also scrape out all the ferny/weedy/mossy intruders & add some fresh compost)
Yours will do fine in pots Smile

Amazing photos as always!

I'm definitely even more jealous of successful Hydrangea growers after all of the new photos that have been shared!

Your whole garden is absolutely stunning @Sweetpea1532, and it's so interesting to see something so different, plant and climate wise (not that I don't love seeing all the plants similar to my own as well of course!)

I agree with you about the flag and the patriotism @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet.

Not much to add from me, I do have a Dahlia flower finally though 😊

Lovely deep purple Hydrangea and Hollyhock. Hollyhocks don’t do too well in my garden, but love next door’s.

DrWAnker · 19/07/2020 19:18

Coming along!
Love all the pics, wonderful colours.
Well done on the hollyhocks, they are beautiful.

The hollyhocks are gorgeous! I have hundreds of hollyhock, lupin and delphinium seedlings growing for next year. And foxgloves. I love taaaalll flowers.Smile

catwithflowers · 19/07/2020 22:23

@SinisterBumFacedCat how do you grow your hollyhocks successfully? I can grow delphiniums but my hollyhocks are dreadful, covered in rust and look very sickly despite being in sun 😳

catwithflowers · 19/07/2020 22:25

That was also to @DDemelza and anyone else who has any advice!

I actually started them last year in small pots, about half didn’t make it Sad I kept them growing in the pots for ages and planted them this spring. Most shot up but some have just sat there as decorative shrubs. Interesting a pot that failed got emptied out into the flowerbed and a hollyhocks has sprung up from under another plant there. The soil is quite sandy in my garden, I don’t know if that makes a distance. I’ve also got some double buds hollyhocks that suffer from the rusty leaf thing but still grow very tall. I love hollyhocks, I think it’s because I associate them with seaside gardens.

Sweetpea1532 · 20/07/2020 04:29

I am really enjoying all the gorgeous gardens and flowers that everyone is posting. I, too, am so excited to see what MNETTERS are growing in their gardens in different parts of the world! Thank you, ALWAYS, MAMIA,and BEAUTY for your kind words about my garden. My DH keeps asking when I'm going to be finishing up on my garden...poor lamb, I don't have the heart to tell him that I will NEVER be FINISHEDWink

DDemelza · 20/07/2020 09:28

@catwithflowers, I think it's sheer luck that the fungus doesn't seem to be a problem where I live (touch wood). There are many wild mallows in the park, and half the street grow beautiful hollyhocks (some clearly self-seeded) and hibiscus in their front gardens. All appear fungus-free. I grow lavatera, too.

DDemelza · 20/07/2020 09:29

Sweetpea, your garden is incredible, and giving me serious inspiration for my rockery!

The hosts flowers are awesome, love the idea of humungous alliums.

Today I have a phlox, my sunflower in the early morning sun, and a hydrangea which is totally cheating because it's not mine. I was visiting my mum today, it looked rather marvellous and I thought of you all!
