I wish I could have pansies, there is some lurg that turns them into slime in my garden, sigh. Buddlea, hmm, I fancy that but have always associated it with growing in crevices and destroying stuff. I know my husband will think I've gone mad if I suggest it.

Love the fuchsia from below @DrWAnker

Those pansies are such a beautiful colour @DDemelza

@Noflora I had the exact same distrust of buddleia for a long time after a flat I lived in had one growing out of a crack in the wall, and we thought we had dry rot when we lifted a floorboard and saw the roots covering an area inside the flat of about 20 sqm and extending into three different rooms Shock
I was given a small one by my dm, and planted it because I would have felt rude not to, and its won me around Grin

Noflora · 15/07/2020 18:03

OMG Beware , do the fancy ones seed everywhere too? How long do they flower?

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 15/07/2020 20:39

Fab pics! it's like being on Pinterest Wink

My Fuchsias are getting closer to opening....I'm resisting the urge to pop them Grin

popgoesperfection · 15/07/2020 22:09

Omg raptor that used to be my favourite thing when I was a kid Grin

ditavonteesed · 16/07/2020 06:08

Can I ask a question about David Austin roses?
So they have loads of flowers on but the stems don't seem strong enough for the weight of the flower so when the flower opens they sort of bow over, is this normal? Should I be putting some sort of support in the pot for them?

AnneKipanki · 16/07/2020 07:38

Mine were a bit like that to start . They do get better as they get older .
We have the Rosa Officianalis planted so it is growing up through the cotinus for extra support. The GJ is by itself.
We planted the GJ last year and it is definitely a lot better. I think the first bloom was the only one that ended up being a bit droopy.

My roses only do this if full of water from the rain. Make sure they're well fed and pruned to to ensure strong stems.

Oldraver · 16/07/2020 09:39

Buddleia impatience again

@Noflora I think some people do think buddleia as thuggish, and they are if allowed to get out of control. You need to hard prune

Which suits me fine as I've not killed one yet

bilbodog · 16/07/2020 10:19

We inherited a gorgeous garden last year -full of roses. I dont know what this one is but its gorgeous. The igloo pergola has been a lockdown project so i need to plant up around it and have a climbing rose over it eventually.

My fuchsia has popped overnight Grin
Also, another dahlia and the pinks I planted have started to flower.

I measured my giant sunflower yesterday, it's currently at 8ft 6 which I'm sure is taller than I've had before (because I'm actually feeding and watering consistently this year)

Email from gardening express today with this mad offer - useful for anyone with lots of space to fill?
I’ve only ever bought a cut Christmas tree from them, but that was a beautiful tree & very fresh, as promised, so this looks worth taking a punt on Grin

I was very tempted by Gardening Express's bulb offer, but their Trust Pilot reviews dissuaded me.

Bilbo, the igloo is the bomb.

applecatchers36 · 16/07/2020 15:01

Bilbo am jealous of your garden, the igloo and rose!

Oh dear! It didn’t occur to me to look at reviews.

It seems that they really struggled during the earlier part of the pandemic, & their comms are pretty poor, but they have improved of late...

This one is interesting - very fair of her to come back twice!

Giant I had to have a stern word with myself. I do not have space and I am trying to leave something to plant new next year. Those are too late for this year but I wanted them anyway but have told myself they will be rubbish and induce lots of stress. BUT I still want them.

That igloo is awesome

My lavender is buzzing.

Noflora I only have a tiny space anyway but keep cramming more in (2 pinks from Lidl today Grin) so I sympathise! (The pinks come in loads of different colours if anyone’s interested. I do like the ones with green foliage rather than blue)

Your garden looks fab & the lavender is amazing, your bees must be very happy! What’s the blue thing alongside it?

My pink & white fuchsia is busting out all over and the coreopsis is finally showing some yellow! (it’s been cool & damp up here for a couple of weeks now so things are a bit behind)

Lovely pinks Giant, I would've bought those too. It seems easy to convince yourself that you can fit 1 or 2 more plants in every week but all the gardening express ones at once is too many!

The blue perrenial is hardy plumbago, Ceratostigma plumbaginoides. Really drought tolerent like the lavender but it flowers for months then you get good autumn colour and in winter is covered in really good seed pods we call sputniks.

Anne my bergenia flowers early spring I need to investigate, it has great leaves but I would love more flowers.

Strawberry Hill is taking time to get going for me but here is its first flower in ages
