Oooh, thanks, Noflora! The plumbago that looks like pale blue pelargonium is something I love seeing on European holidays but I know it wouldn’t do well here - hardy plumbago should be fine in a big pot, and it’s obviously more interesting, and for much longer! The sputniks are wonderful!

Bud, gone a little crazy. Gorgeous flowers though

If it has been dry it gets droopy.

It has rained here every day for about a month, (until this week) so it can't be that. I think it probably should have been pruned last autumn/winter? Blush
I my husband will chop it hard, once the season is over?

Definitely not lack of water then !

So many gorgeous photos!

Lots of really beautiful Buddleia, mine is way behind everyone else's at the moment.

Also the Hydrangea are amazing. One of my absolute favourites, but unfortunately firmly on the list of "Things I cannot grow" ☹️

After being impressed by the black Petunias on the last thread, I was very pleased to find myself one at the supermarket yesterday 😁

Also my Irises have finally bloomed, I was so sure they weren't going to, I though they flowered earlier than this 🧐 pleased I was mistaken though!

Anne I gave the bud a full bucket of water (just in case)! and I don't believe it, but it has completely perked up Smile... already!
So maybe the rain hasn't been getting into the roots. Thank you 😊
Water is usually the obvious solution!

I love those @beautyisfoundwithin

Good to hear @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet . It had been wet here too but VERY windy. The wind can make things dry out too .

This is my favourite thread! Your gardens and plants and flowers are all so beautiful.

I am a complete newbie to proper gardening - I asked for advice earlier (thank you) on a DA rose plant this thread inspired me to buy and I have planted it. I also want an Anne Boleyn one now! I have also bought three small dianthus(?) plants which are doing well. And three big hydrangeas Blush Hopefully they will grow and I can show some photos! Also my basil, rosemary, thyme, sage and mint plants are sprouting well and don't seem to be dead yet (not really worthy of a photo though Grin)

I blame you all for my excessive spending! Seriously I just wanted to say thank you as this thread has been so inspiring and looking after my plants has really cheered me up this week with so much other awful stuff going on. I am bit worried about how much I will spend though Wink

IKillMyPlantsToDeath · 17/07/2020 17:33

PS I have bought the "frothy" type of hydrangeas (it was only yesterday) I might have been a bit over enthusiastic Blush Can I plant them in containers instead of getting DC to digging gigantic holes? Any advice welcome (tell me to start my own different thread if you want, I won't be offended!)

AnneKipanki · 17/07/2020 17:38

Impressive @Sweetpea1532 .
Good news @IKillMyPlantsToDeath

I've just planted some of this loveliness 😍. Erigeron karvinskianus or fleabane. I saw it in our local park clambering over stones and peeping through little cracks and crevices in the pathways and decided I had to have it 🤣. I've planted some small plants which I bought online and just sown some seeds (which are some of the tiniest seeds I've ever seen in my life 🔎 ) in the greenhouse which should hopefully give me loads of plants next year.

I know it's the wrong time to sow them but I'm sowing lots of perennials at random times this year to try to get plants in earlier next year. This is fleabane in the park

According to FB gardeners world tonight has a segment about hydrangeas (Carol Klein). Something to look forward to Smile

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 17/07/2020 17:45

Oh you can absolutely talk about Hydrangea on this thread, that is quite alright Grin
I have them in pots and they do well Smile
I think the basics are that you need ericaceous compost for blue, general compost for pink, holes on bottom of container, feed and water.
They are happy in either sun or shade. Easy peasy Smile
The cost does add up, but I consider it an investment. The return is.... beautiful flowers and my happiness Grin and the accountant has never said anything. Although I do just put everything on his desk and run WinkGrin

That is stunning @Sweetpea1532 very unusual

catwithflowers · 17/07/2020 17:48

@IKillMyPlantsToDeath it is a lovely thread isn't it. ❤️. I love looking at everyone's gardens and getting advice and suggestions.

I have grown hydrangeas in pots. In fact we have one in the cottage garden in a pot (covering a drain cover!) which is flowering beautifully. Obviously they don't get to the huge size of some planted in the soil but that can be a good thing! Just make sure you keep them watered as they don't like to dry out. They also prefer dappled shade to full sun 😊

Ooh thank you. I never thought I would be excited about Gardener's World Grin I'm going outside to look at them again Blush

Sweetpea1532 · 17/07/2020 18:19

Always, thank you! I've had lots of fun trying to find plants that will thrive in my arid climate. I love the many colours that the succulents can have depending on how much sun they are exposed to. I have tried to plant things that are drought tolerant and I only give them a splash with my washing up water.Grin
