What is flowering in your garden right now?

What’s your favourite flower in your garden right now ...or a fortnight ago if you’re in the southern half of the country?

My spring flowers are ending and the summer ones aren’t out yet so the garden looks a bit empty. A peony, a few alliums, some late-planted tulips, bluebells and yellow poppies. What can I plant to fill the gap?

Right now wisteria, lupins, roses, french lavender, aquilegia, rock rose, hebe, aliums, rhododendrons, azaleas, peonies

lewk · 19/05/2020 19:41

My lavender is going strong at the moment!

Letsnotargue · 19/05/2020 19:42

Geum! I have several and they’re filling the spring/summer gap beautifully. And the bees love them.

HirplesWithHaggis · 19/05/2020 19:45

Dandelions. Apparently they're important for the bees.

My honeysuckle/bramble combination is awesome, not in flower but about seven feet tall...

BillStickersIsInnocent · 19/05/2020 19:48

I came here to say geum too. They are lovely.
Also red pelargoniums in pots and geraniums (rozanne is a beautiful blue colour).

Chives too are looking lovely right now.

OllyBJolly · 19/05/2020 19:52

My Ceanothus is stunning. The Erysimum is better than ever this year- so cheerfully colourful. I have three varieties and they all seem to merge together. Also, the lilac is blooming. A few late season tulips but the wind has blown the petals from most of them. Roses are beginning to come out which I think is earlier than usual.

Still need to tidy up the leaves of the daffodils and tulips.

Roseburn · 19/05/2020 19:52

Right now I have the fading remnants of magnolia, and in full bloom centaura, marsh marigold, cotton grass, broom and ajuga.

Gorgeous blues and yellows.

rosieposies · 19/05/2020 19:53

My dwarf lilac and my one (!!) alium

sarahc336 · 19/05/2020 19:54

One of my roses is out, wallflowers have been flowering since spring and will flower through to autumn, I've got a saliva that flowers from may too, I'm sure it's called hot lips or hot kiss or something, lovely red flowers. I've also got a few daisy type flowers out too x

sarahc336 · 19/05/2020 19:55

Oh yeah and Geum as a few others have said x

peajotter · 19/05/2020 19:56

Thanks all. Geum sounds like a possibility.

@HirplesWithHaggis I do have dandelions too, but I feed them to my chickens so they don’t last!

@HasaDigaEebowai @lewk sounds lovely. I have most of those but still not flowering yet as I’m in Scotland. The garden is going to be lovely in a few weeks. Can you remember what you had a month ago? Thanks!

It's my favourite time for my back garden. Clematis, poppies, strawberries, London pride, big shrubby plant with small pink flowers, alliums, broad beans, pelargoniums. Looks lovely.

Noflora · 19/05/2020 19:57

Flowering now are really beautiful peonies, aliums, lupins, lavender, weigela, potentilla, a yellow shrub rose and several other shrubs I forget the names of. The lilac and camellia were good this year and I just love the spring bulbs every year.

CatBatCat · 19/05/2020 19:58

Chives and fuchias

Candleabra · 19/05/2020 19:59

Roses looking amazing. Chives too. Bit of a lull in my garden too - but the campanula has just started flowering this week.

Titsywoo · 19/05/2020 19:59

My climbing rose has just started flowering which I'm very happy about. Also campanula, lavender (just starting to peek through), rhodedendron, erysimum bowles mauve (my favourite) and lilac.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/05/2020 20:00

Lavender's not out yet, but chives are flowering. The roses are blooming beautifully, as is the clematis.

CatBatCat · 19/05/2020 20:01

In fact that's all have flowering right now. I started a bit late thinking we were going to move house but then 'Rona turned up so I started planting again only a few weeks ago. I've got lots of green that' ll burst in a few weeks time. Jasmine, marigolds, calendulas, cornflowers, lemon balm, wormwood, roses.

Bertucci · 19/05/2020 20:03

Peonies, alliums, irises, lilac and ranunculus are still going strong.

Camelia and rhododendrons have finished now.

Lavender is in bud and hollyhocks looking promising. I have forgotten where the lupins are but they must be coming soon.

I'm in the north...
I've got some geums, lots of aquilegia, forgetmenot everywhere, honesty, clematis Montana, a couple of rhododendrons and an azalea, alliums, some of the geraniums are out, the foxgloves are just coming out too. The pots still have violas doing well in them (I've kept on top of the deadheading) and a dark red marguerite type thing which survived from last year is out too, centaurea and Jacobs ladder. And some irises, the delicate marginal type not bearded.

AncientRainbowABC · 19/05/2020 20:05

Lupins, geraniums and marigolds. Honeysuckle and roses are just on the cusp of opening, I’m crossing my fingers that some might start tomorrow so we have a lovely scent as the sun goes down after a hot day. Lillies being slower than usual this year.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/05/2020 20:05

Xposted, hadn't sen you're in Scotland... ok, so I'm in the northwest of England so actually in the middle of the U.K. not the north.Grin

Bellablahhole · 19/05/2020 20:08

Disappointing here (NE England). Aquilegia flowering, Salvia hot lips has a couple of flowers, otherwise nothing much is happening yet. Lots of buds but nothing has decided to make an appearance. Late frosts and cool temperatures here are to blame, I think. Loads of frost damage on new growth too. Sad

ClassicCola · 19/05/2020 20:08

Peony, roses and my jasmine is just starting to flower.
