@cornstarch they smell absolutely amazing, don't they?Smile I love this colour, so intense!

cornstarch · 28/08/2019 08:36

Yes I love David Austin. I made the mistake of buying ten cheap roses about five years ago. All have turned out rubbish. Total false economy

AnneKipanki · 28/08/2019 09:04

I had one that died pretty soon after I bought it .
The new one ( Gertrude Jekyll ) is doing well.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 28/08/2019 17:13

Gorgeous pictures.

I went to a garden centre today to buy my spring bulbs and came across a section of David Austin roses, which was unexpected as I'm in Ireland and haven't seen them before, although I've always heard of him (probably on here)

I fell in love with and bought this one, and yes the scent is heavenly.

I think I will need really good advice from a reliable person about where to plant it and how to care for it. I will treasure it always 🙏

I went to the garden centre today too @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet also looking for bulbs, especially Aliums as I'm crazy about them at the moment!
They had a whole big section of David Austin roses and I looked for Gertrude Jekyll @AnneKipanki it's so beautiful and it smells lovely! I also looked for Wollerton Old Hall as somebody has previously posted the picture and I fell in love with it, it's gorgeous!
Which one of the David Austin roses is yours @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet? The positioning depends on the type of the rose mostly, don't forget deadheading for repeat flowering and watch out for diseases (especially rose rust, rose black spot and powdery mildew) and pests (greenfly can be really destructive). Watering once a week at this time of the year is fine I think Smile
