They're lining Adam Frost up to replace Monty, aren't they?.....

Just watched most of Friday's GW: yes, AF has an accent but it's no better, no worse than other regional accents Confused - and I say that as a Scot! Grin

We'd get used to it.

My main concern is that if his house is in London, the garden itself is too far South/sunny/dry compared to the majority of the country.

Monty's place (and Titchmarsh's before him) are at least more "middle England" in terms of location.

RIPWALTER · 07/05/2019 23:16

I was pleasantly surprised by Adam Frost presenting, I normally find him insanely irritating!

However, I like that Monty's garden was just a field 30 years ago and everything has been achieved in that time, i also like that Monty isn't formally horticulturally trained, this gives me hope for me and my garden.

Adams new garden is clearly a large mature garden (just look at that wisteria) and not something I could ever own.

I was surprised how much I liked and learnt from Adam Frost. More than I've learnt from watching Monty Dom, who I do like.

Adam Frost’s garden is near Peterborough, so just as far north as Longmeadow but further east. So I’m guessing slightly colder but less rain.

Yes it was a mature garden when he bought it but it certainly needed a lot done, as it had been neglected.

That's reassuring - for some reason I thought it was London. Although from my perspective, Peterborough is still "South" Wink

You'd think that GW would learn from the risk of having the presenter's own garden as its main garden Grin because the complaints disruption when they have to change Shock. At least with Beechgrove, it's a defined "external" garden (custom built for the programme) so it continues in whoever the presenters are. Although there were also big complaints when it moved from the grounds of the Aberdeen TV Studios in the city centre (on a cramped site) after nearly 20 years to a big site outside the city. It's not open to the public but there are tours arranged Smile The viewing public was able to watch as it grew out of a blank canvas - including things like cutting down the windbreak that they put in 20 years ago as it was now sucking the moisture out of one of the "sub" gardens - and then working out what to do with the difference in light.

I ❤️ Beechgrove. Glad to see we have a new young female presenter who seems to know her stuff.

I hope the wonderful Jim McColl has a happy retirement.

Just caught up with it, I love Adam Frosts garden. Its stunning, everything is just beautifully thought out to be beautiful as well as functional. I especially like the plants in the gravel path.

Monty reminds me of my dad, so its like a reassuring hug every week, plus the dogs are brilliant.
I think Adam and his beautiful garden would be a good replacement (although i would miss monty and the dogs). In his previous little segments I've always thought he really understands what someone wants from a garden rather than making it a standard "Adam Frost" garden.

llangennith · 09/05/2019 11:27

When Monty Don took over as main presenter of GW the BBC insisted on him having help in his garden as they felt it was too much for MD and his wife to do on their own. He was very reluctant but had to accept it.
He certainly doesn't 'just' present GW, he does a lot of gardening at Longmeadow.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 10/05/2019 11:36

No one can replace monty’s soothing voice. I will also miss seeing longmeadow.

I vote for a combination of the rich brothers, Frances tophill and Adam frost.

ppeatfruit · 10/05/2019 13:46

Yes a combination of presenters is a good idea, why not have Monty doing one or two when he feels up to it, as well?
