They're lining Adam Frost up to replace Monty, aren't they?.....

I think it is a real shame that nowhere in the country can they find a woman that knows about gardens, does actual gardening and can talk at the same time. Such a shame.

TheSpottedZebra · 04/05/2019 16:36

Carol klein? I love her.

RedSheep73 · 04/05/2019 16:39

God, not Carol Klein! This week, Carol will be gushing about tulips...yawn. Whatever plant they give her, she gushes about it. She can't possibly love them all that bloody much.

Clankboing · 04/05/2019 16:39

Just what I was going to say - it has to be Carol! She is over exuberant but I love her science!

Magmatic80 · 04/05/2019 16:41

I don’t watch it much, but Kim Wilde?

prettybird · 04/05/2019 16:43

I love Carol Klein. I think she's be a great replacement (although it did take me a while to get used to her voice).

In defence of women gardening programme presenters, 2 out of the 3 Beechgrove presenters are female Smile (Chris Beardshaw is only an occasional visiting presenter). The newest one, who replaces Jim McColl after his 40 Shock year stint is a woman. Smile

Thesuzle · 04/05/2019 16:48

Yes another Monty fan here, but why cant we have a female as and when he gives up, I wasn’t that keen on Adam Frost as his speech is not clear and I missed a couple of plant names, very nice dog and cat though.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/05/2019 16:56

I’m a bit worried about Monty. For a 65 year old man who has led a gently active life, he seems very frail to me.

TheSpottedZebra · 04/05/2019 17:02

He does, Tinkly but he did have a stroke, didn't he?

UnaOfStormhold · 04/05/2019 17:03

Dobby there was a map of Longmeadow in Gardener's world magazine this spring - it was strangely satisfying to see how it fits together!

TheSpottedZebra · 04/05/2019 17:07

Important AF pet update: per his website, he has four children, one horse, two ponies, two spaniels, one black Labrador and an ancient cat

RedSheep73 · 04/05/2019 17:09

Carol Klein's too old, surely? even apart from her god-awful gushiness. And Frances, lovely though she may be, apart from the awful trousers, only has an allotment. Don't you need a massive garden for the job?

MountainEagle · 04/05/2019 17:12

I hate Adam Frost. He’s not good looking and he has an annoying accent. To me his gardening ability comes second to his watchability. Imo there’s a vacancy for a young sexy gardening presenter as we don’t really have any (ok, we have the Rich brothers, but they aren’t really rugged and twinkly enough).

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/05/2019 17:17

I think there’s something about Adam and I really like his garden. I like Carol a lot too, but I think she’s better in small doses.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/05/2019 17:31

I’d love to have seen the map of longmeadow, I’m always wondering how it all fits together. I’ve got the latest GW mag, but it’s not in that, I don’t think.

huggybear · 04/05/2019 17:36

I thought he was great and his style is much more mine than Monty's (though I really like Long Meadow too!)

Weepingwillows12 · 04/05/2019 17:43

Sorry slight subject change here but what is a good gardening show for beginners?

I do like watching monty on occasion as it is relaxing but only recently moved into my first house with a garden and now realising I know nothing and need to learn. Was thinking of watching lots of gardeners works but maybe there's a better show for me?

Weepingwillows12 · 04/05/2019 17:44

World not works sorry

Clankboing · 04/05/2019 17:59

Weeping willows YouTube is good actually! Because it basically answers specific questions, whereas garden shows are more general. I do think Monty is wonderful, but I feel tired FOR him. I worry if is all too much. His garden is huge and filled with plants. It must be knackering, especially the pressure to have areas nice for filming.

WobniarRewolf · 04/05/2019 18:46

I think they are, too, but I really like Adam Frost. He seems quite laid back (if a bit nervous) and I think he'd find his groove easily enough. I love Monty, too, don't get me wrong, but I think that Adam would be a worthy successor.

Lunaballoon · 04/05/2019 18:55

I love Monty’s relaxed style and his gorgeous dogs. I always feel slightly bereft when the GW season ends in the autumn. Adam Frost just doesn’t do it for me I’m afraid.

Snugglepiggy · 04/05/2019 19:10

I will hear nothing negative said about Monty.I think I'm a little bit in love with him.And Nigel and Nellie !That's what getting older and seriously obsessed with gardening does for you !I think I could just about accept Adam.If only because that is one gorgeous garden.Noticeably much more pristine though as all the greenhouses etc so new.I would also miss the lovely weathered potting sheds etc of Long Meadow.

7Days · 04/05/2019 19:25

I love Monty, but he can't goon for ever.
I can see Adam Frost relaxing a bit more into it

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/05/2019 19:27

I think monty has said that he doesn’t do all the gardening himself, I think he has a team.

Clankboing · 04/05/2019 19:49

I too love Monty. If there is a criticism it's that he makes me fall asleep. But actually that's a compliment - his voice makes me relax. When it's Friday and I've been at work all week, I sit to watch my favourite TV. Dh laughs because each time I nod off half way through and say it's my favourite programme.
