To remind myself as much as anything else!

Aldi have vegetable plug plants in tomorrow, £1.99 each. 10 varieties - pictures show broccoli, caulis, tomatoes, peppers. Also, rhodos for £5.99 if they are your kind of thing.

Right, I'm off to Morrisons! Grin

Went to Aldi yesterday - didn't buy anything because I already have a wisteria (£10) and lavender (£3.99), but the plants looked in terrific fettle.

Ooooh, mini cucumbers.

DH and I had the following conversation last night

DH: We could grow cucumber.
Me: I don't like cucumber. When I was a kid, we called it pukey-cucey.
DH: You do like cucumber!
Me: No I don't!
DH: Yes you do! In gin and tonic!
Me: OHHHH YEAAAAH! Let's grow some!

I went to morrisons yesterday and got a beautiful Hosta and something else that will have pink flowers (sorry - can't remember!) for £1.50 each on a 2 for £3. I also got some lovely primula on offer for £1.33. I know they are basically past flowering now but I have a woodland part of my garden which primulas love.
I got a great fuschia for £2 from Tesco. It's really beautiful.
Love this thread!

My DS calls cucumbers 'juicebummers' if that helps your decision to grow them at all!
He's 2!

I got a bit carried away and bought twelve trays of bedding plants from Homebase this morning - they were marked down to 20p Shock

I'm confident I can revive about 80% of the plants. Some trays have obviously lost one or two but I don't think I'll complain Wink

Because my dianthus have flowered so profusely (see other thread) I've been in no particular hurry to re-fill my patio containers.

I have trailing lobelia, snapdragons, begonia, impatiens, dahlias, bacopa, petunias and marigolds Grin

Our store had them on a shelving unit adjacent to the front door, as well as in the garden centre at the back.

I LOVE those bargainous trays, Have you seen her. Often it's just a couple that have gone, isn't it?

I know Holly! I was in competition with a couple of elderly ladies for the best pickings Wink I think they were trying to discourage me but I knew better Grin We all ended up with a nice selection though! Thanks

I'm holding out for the Wilko and Tesco Direct gardening sales as they were fabulous last year.

Have you had any good bargains lately?

I haven't been shopping for aaaages Sad. I haven't even been to Aldi Shock. I think I am having withdrawal symptoms. Grin

I did, however, order some seeds from Thompson and Morgan last night. They have a kind of sale on all the things that need to be planted in the spring - a lot of them aren't 'marked down', but things that I know cost £2.99 a pack a couple of months back are now selling for 99p. I got some seeds for those huuuuuuuuge Echiums, as they are very fun and I would dearly love a big blue giant in my garden.

Oh fab Grin I remember someone talking about those on here last year and I looked them up, they look brilliant Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks (to illustrate the size/height)

I'm biding my time for the end of the month as my email tells me that's when I did some major garden sale shopping last year Blush Wine

Yes, they are apparently a bit difficult about wet, so I might have to do them in pots to start and move them into the greenhouse over winter or something. They are brilliantly triffid-like!

Oooh, do let me know when the sale start. I am hopeless at shopping and miss things otherwise.

I haven't been to Aldi in ages either, have I missed the watering system does any one know?

I will have lots of Echium seeds if any one wants any, they are easy to grow, send me a pm. :)

What sort of alliums though shove? You can get 100 Purple Sensation for £12 from J.Parker's wholesale catalogue but minimum order is 25 i.e. £3. You can share an order with friends to make up a more respectable 'wholesale' quantity (somehow I always seem to manage on my own). Pages and pages of gorgeous tulips. Request an autumn catalogue at //www.dutchbulbs.co.uk Good bedtime reading...

Don't bother with their plants - disappointing.

Report
shovetheholly · 29/07/2015 08:14

OK, you get

  • 3 x purple sensation
  • 25 x neopolitanum
  • 20 x roseum
  • 39 x spaerocephalon
  • 10 x caeruleum
  • 3 x mount everest

It is roughly the same every year, so I buy a load and build up clumps. The bulbs are technically free and the £5 is postage.

I will probably also buy your recommendation of the 100 purple sensation alliums from Parkers (along with loads of other things), because I want big impact from them all the way down one side of the garden. (I already have 40 or so, but it is not enough and I am too impatient!!). I wuvs them.

This company do great competitions for gardeners - this time they're giving away wildlife friendly plants to help hedgehogs.
