To remind myself as much as anything else!

Aldi have vegetable plug plants in tomorrow, £1.99 each. 10 varieties - pictures show broccoli, caulis, tomatoes, peppers. Also, rhodos for £5.99 if they are your kind of thing.

I love the idea of decorous gardening. I think I can see you sitting in one of those luxury boat chairs, propped up on cushions surveying the garden and making plans. Beside you there is with a table full of tea (possibly gin) and cake which is resupplied hourly by the help.

Am East London gardener

shovetheholly · 24/02/2017 11:33

Astrantia - ooooh, yes, I like this plan A LOT. I would, of course, need a band of strong and attractive minions to execute my designs while I sipped something clinky in an elegantly-shaped glass. Smile

But I would definitely need you all beside me, giving me the benefit of all of your own design experience! (We'll need more gin. A LOT more gin. Also, possibly, a jazz quartet, plates of afternoon tea and some cooing doves).

Oh gutted I wanted the kids gardenline gardening set from Aldi but it's been delayed. DD(2) has planted some carrots and a flower in her own planter to stop her 'helping' and digging mine

HaveYouSeenHerLately · 25/02/2017 12:24

Oh that's a shame MooMoo it's really sweet! Fingers crossed they sort out the supply issue...

shovetheholly · 26/02/2017 07:33

I have had several problems with Aldi dates not being correct. The good news is that, in every case, the product had appeared later on. The bad news is that this has been without fanfare so you have to keep checking back.

I am back from Aldi with 2 bags of perlite, 2 of vermiculite, new staging and a big bucket of chicken poo! They had some excellent fruit bushes in - currants, gooseberries, rasps (all gold), blackberries - for anyone who is after them at £2.99.

They have some rather nice looking wooden mini greenhouses for £60 but these looked like they were selling out fast - just 2 left in my store.

Oh good haul shove!

I'm hoping I might obtain a full size greenhouse this year. I've entered the Gardener's World competition Grin

My garden shopping 2017 = a £1.79 solanum from Morrisons. I'll get my act together by Easter Grin

I visited Bunnings today - they're taking over Homebase. The plants seem to be from the same supplier, labels and pricing identical. Hope they sort out a shelf of death soon so I can continue extreme bargain hunting Star

They had a £500 olive tree if anyone's interested?!

shovetheholly · 02/03/2017 14:58

Bloody hell, £500?! Shock I didn't know Bunnings were taking over Homebase. There's one close to me!

You probably know this already, but if you have the time and energy to dismantle and transport, there are often cheap second hand greenhouses (or even Freecycle ones) advertised in supermarkets etc. ALSO, if you go to the RHS shows where they have greenhouse exhibitors, you can get display ones for cheap on the right day. (Obviously, this involves having the transport to get them home).

Oh that's really interesting, thank you!! I have an alert set up on ebay locally as well as a HUKD alert. No luck yet as I'm such a cheapskate. I'm hopeful one day I'll stumble across a ridiculous misprice or a super deal a la the sheds! Grin

Not too worried if it doesn't work out but it would be nice to have somewhere to overwinter plants and potter undercover on rainy days.

I might just bite the bullet and treat myself to one later in the year Smile I don't do much propagating so no immediate rush.

Weirdly there aren't any on display near to me. I saw a basic one in Bunnings earlier, 6x4' and it was far smaller than I'd imagined. I've also set my sights on a fancy Eden one, I may have to lower my expectations Grin

Are you going to RHS Chatsworth 2017?

bookbook · 02/03/2017 18:51

evening!
Shall be going to Aldi tomorrow ..
HaveYou - don't forget Gumtree local to you- that is where I got my bargain second hand greenhouse. Am just plucking up the courage to order a brand new one

HaveYouSeenHerLately · 02/03/2017 18:57

Oh thank bookbook! I never consider Gumtree. I'm a bit scared of the work involved in dismantling, transporting and possibly not being able to put it back together properly Grin

If it's a good one I would definitely make the effort mind!

shovetheholly · 03/03/2017 08:06

I'm guessing it'd be a few days of work to sort out - one for dismantling (and taking loads of phone pictures so you can remember how everything fits together) and at least one for reassembly. But then it took me 2 days to put up my new one, and that didn't include building the base!

Shows are a sore point at the moment. I got tickets for Chelsea this year for Valentine's day and was tremendously excited. Now, however, it looks like DH might have to be in Shanghai instead. Even though it can't be helped, I am NOT AMUSED. I will probably get over my sulk in time for Chatsworth in June though.

Probably.

well, when we got ours, I did have a couple of pluses on my side. - Due to having my own business, I did have a big white van , and also as a bigger plus - I have DH. We took loads of pictures, just like shove suggested. It was only a year old, and the lady selling it gave us a big pot of bits, which she had spare when she built it, along with the instructions.
When we got it home, DH realised ( probably did when he saw it in truth) said it had been put together wrong, so it went back together differently!
Oh, shove - what a shame about Chelsea - will you still go ?- it's not really the same by yourself, but there again,, you have total freedom looking around.

bookbook · 03/03/2017 08:37

btw - when I first read it , I thought you wrote Shangri-La Grin

shovetheholly · 03/03/2017 08:44

Hahaha! I'd be stowing away in his suitcase for that, book!

We are still waiting to hear about the trip from the Chinese organisers so the dates aren't finally final, but I'm 90% sure he won't be able to come. It'll be absolutely fine going on my own - I just need to put on my big girl pants about it!

I'm impressed that your DH figured out the greenhouse just by looking at it! I had to follow DVD instructions really closely to get mine right, and I still kept making mistakes! But I was never any good at Lego or Meccano as a kid!

Hello, it's HaveYouSeenHerLately with a name change in honour of my furry feline overlord Grin

Aldi have some gardening bits coming in on Sunday 26th here

NotAnEMERGENCY · 30/03/2017 12:47

Morrisons have started stocking cheap multi-purpose (peat free) compost again. I just got three 70l bags (i.e. 210 litres) for £9 (4p per litre). I think a single 70l bag is normally £3.41 but they seem to have an offer on. Not sure if you have to buy three bags to get the offer or if it also applies to individual bags.

They usually have 40l bags for £2 but I've not seen the 70l bags before.

GingerKitCat · 06/04/2017 19:06

Thanks for the tip NotAn!

Aldi have some gardening bits coming in on Sunday 9th - solar lights, arches, obelisks, supports, planters.

Callmegeoff · 07/04/2017 07:01

Oh I do love this thread.

Apparently Aldi have hot tubs about to go on sale -£299 my sister is after one.

Every Thursday I check Aldi then lidl they are conveniently 1/2 a mile apart! Bark chips £1.99 in lidl.

Which day are you at Chelsea holly ? I think I'm Thursday but I've put the ticket in a safe place and now can't find it !

shovetheholly · 07/04/2017 10:14

What a shame - I'm there on the Tuesday geoff - at the moment I only have 3.30 entry Sad but I need to return a ticket as DH is no longer coming, so hoping I can 'trade up' for a return (I must remember to ring up and ask if this is possible).

I fear hot tubs would be a somewhat chilly experience in Sheffield! Grin I might go for a rather more prosaic trug instead.

Callmegeoff · 08/04/2017 08:49

Ah you must be rhs member? I don't think our group has an appointed time - we're just turning up in a coach and can stay for 6 hours. Shame about your Dh, could you take someone else?

bookbook · 09/04/2017 18:42

Will you get your money back shove ?
Just been to Aldi - they have little plug plants in - 12 in a pack for £3.99 (.Hanging basket/patio/geranium and fuchsia collections .)
I had some last year, and they were good little plants. You need to get them as soon as they come in - and they need potting on pronto, but well rooted plugs.

GingerKitCat · 13/04/2017 13:56

More Aldi gardening offers incoming next week - Monday and Thursday.
Many available to order online with free delivery from today Smile

Monday has lots of varieties of shake and rake (anyone had any success with these?!), trellis, garden bags, weed control, clogs, hedge trimmers and so on. I've pm'd you MooMoo as the cute kids garden set is in stock online (in stores Monday)!

Thursday is more DIY-centric but has masonry paint, fence paint and some fairly bargainous 2.5L shed/ furniture paint in cream/sage/slate/ cornflower blue. Oh and woven hanging baskets.

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 15/04/2017 10:20

Shove Chelsea tickets go for a LOT on eBay.
