how's everyone's tomaotes doing?

mine are still going - I've been giving bagfuls away.

But I think that the end is in sight - I might just rip them all out this weekend

nikkie · 22/09/2006 19:20

Still got masses, don't want to take them up as still have loads on the plants and with it being so warm they are riping again.

I think all our are ripe by now

and the giant slugs have found them

nikkie · 26/09/2006 20:47

Can you make yellow tomato ketchup?

OP posts:

Well that's it for this year - my tomatoes are no more.

I have chopped up the plants and put them in the recycling bin

see you all next year ( but with fewer plants - 20 was a little excessive)

How did i manage to miss this thread? We still ahve loads of green toms but have picked them and wrapped them in newspaper and they are ripening slowly. How did you make the rasted tom sauce megalegs? Sounds yummy.

KS you have been so conspicuous by your absence that I assumed that all your tomatoes were long dead from aforesaid watering neglect

A sad day in the iota household - had to buy tomatoes this week

nikkie · 05/10/2006 19:37

Is anyone elses still going?

OP posts:
nikkie · 10/10/2006 22:00

Sad day today -I finally took my plants down.I have a drawer full of ripening toms and a casserole dish in the window!

OP posts:
iota · 10/10/2006 22:01

nikkie - that's 2 more weeks than mine lasted

DumbledoresGirl · 10/10/2006 22:02

Mine still have loads of green tomatoes on them and one plant has more flowers! As they were all planted in hanging baskets and small pots, would it be OK for me to bring some plants into the house? Will the green tomatoes ripen in the house and the flowers produce new fruits?

nikkie · 10/10/2006 22:10

If you take the toms off they will ripen either in a drawer wrapped in newspaper or on the windowsill with a banana.I had new flowers on mine too but decided it was getting too cold now(they wouldn't have fitted in the house either!)
You caould try it and see!

I made some hot and sour pickled green tomatoes and oven dried some which I have stored in olive oil. Feeling pretty good about it all round. DH lifted the plants and binned them last weeked (obviously I had lost interest once the glory parts were over!)

Thanks for your companionship, fellow tomato-ers!

Now, about next year...

nikkie · 21/10/2006 21:41

I still have 2 bowls ofgreen ones slowly ripening and 2 bowls of red ones yet I still found myself looking at the tomato seeds for next year [rolls eyes]
