@Ventressgood to hear your Dad is home and hope there is not too long a wait for the op and that it goes smoothly. Hope your MRI is ok too.

Good luck to all sitting maths today.

pinkdelight · 18/06/2026 07:12

Another maths DS here - ocr mei comprehension. Final exam after compsci p2 yesterday which he seemed relatively happy with. Good luck with everyone’s maths today and with a big exhale and chill afterwards. Except if there’s another next week like @Raindropsandposies- hang in there, almost done…

Fabfabfab · 18/06/2026 07:33

Good luck to everyone with maths exams today (and FM next week). They will be finished in time for the next heatwave (which I'm not sure I'm looking forwards to after how hot it was in my house last time).

@Ventress you are showing such an admirable level of resilience with everything going on and I'm hugely in awe. Hope your dad is recovering ok and that your scan goes well.

@ComingInByAnsible must be such a relief with both GCSE and a-levels done now!

@Desperatelyseekinglazysusan Hope he's able to forget about it until results day, I'm sure he's done much better than he thinks. My DC is more on the optimistic end of the spectrum and thinks he did really well but I think it's hard to tell (especially with such high grade boundaries in some subjects) and that a lot of those who thought they did badly will end up doing brilliantly. I was like that at school and uni, always thought it had gone terribly but then ended up with good grades.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/06/2026 08:02

Good news on your DDad @Ventress, home he’s recovering well at home.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/06/2026 08:07

Can’t believe it’s finally here, last day of exams for DS! Maths (mechanics and stats) this afternoon. Mechanics he loves, stats he hates but, whatever the outcome, Spoons is calling him and his mates tonight! 😂

Good luck to the mathematicians today and all other exam takers, hoping it’s a good day for everyone!

Gazelda · 18/06/2026 08:32

Great news about your Dad @ventress I hope he can fully recover and be able to manage with caring for your mum.

I feel for your DS @Desperatelyseekinglazysusanhopefully it’s just a reaction to having been studying 24/7 for so long and now facing having so much time on his hands and not knowing what to focus on.

DD’s first day of freedom here. I was shocked when she came down for breakfast at 8, I expected her to sleep until at least midday.

ComingInByAnsible · 18/06/2026 08:32

So glad to hear your Dad is back home, @Ventress. Hope your MRI brings good news today, and that your dad’s surgery goes well in due course. Agree with the others about your amazing resilience and kindness, I have both fingers and toes crossed for you.

Thank you, @Ventress, @bluefinelinerand @Fabfabfab, it is a big relief to have both sets of exams over. I hope DD will be as proactive at bedroom tidying and cleaning as DS - she definitely has more of an uphill struggle! 😁

Good luck to all the mathematicians today! You are right at the finishing line!

ComingInByAnsible · 18/06/2026 08:36

Congratulations to your DD on her first day of freedom, @Gazelda! That’s nice that she is up early, hope she has an enjoyable day to unwind.

Echobelly · 18/06/2026 09:22

Good luck @JustHereWithMyPopcorn 's DS!

DH was saying that it feels like DC has kind of left home now, not because they are on holiday but because he has a sense, as do I, that once they go to uni they won't really be back on any permanent basis. Which is kind of a weird feeling, but that's what they're supposed to do!

Fabfabfab · 18/06/2026 09:51

@Echobelly maybe we will be more ready for them to leave at the end of the summer after they have been lounging around for months! Will no doubt be an emotional time though. DC is trying to find a summer job which isn't proving easy given that his CV is more or less purely academic e.g. he has a great personal statement for uni but it isn't so applicable when applying for bar/retail work etc...

My DC has a job working in a summer holiday camp. It took lots of applications and is a zero hour contract but I am pleased they have something at least!

Echobelly · 18/06/2026 10:20

Tbh, we hardly see DC anyway, they am have been such a social butterfly the last two years. They'll only be living the other side of London but honestly I think we'll see less of them than if they went somewhere outside London!

And I am fine with that, but it'll be interesting adjusting. And a bit tidier, I have to say 😅

Ventress · 18/06/2026 10:24

Thank you all, you are all so kind 💐

it’s so weird to think this is the last year of exams “proper”. After this it’s university exams only! Is that a good thing? We won’t know when this happens 😂

Getting a summer job isn’t easy . I do feel for our yp in this climate, luckily DS has his tennis coaching to fall back on. He’s volunteering at the museum in our “big”town too. It’s really busy at the moment as it has the British Baueux tapestry so they’ve taken lots of volunteers to help out.

DS is writing essays and posting these on a political website. Apparently it’s to resolve the tension of the exam essays not being quite the correct question he expected in the exams 🙄

AuntyBulgaria · 18/06/2026 11:47

DS just headed off to school for his penultimate exam and he appeared to be the most nervous I've seen him. He's usually so confident it was strange.

I think it's because it's stats and mechanics and that's not where his strengths lie. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that mathematician's get a really great exam.

SilverBlue4 · 18/06/2026 13:04

Fortunately AQA is a bit different for maths whereby each paper has some pure in it, paper 1 was entirely pure (my son doesn't worry about this) and then half of paper 2 was mechanics and today's is half stats (not a fan).

I think their resilience has dropped as they are so tired now, doing any revision for this and yesterday's computer science was a real slog.

So glad this is his last one. Feels somewhat of an anti climax, just both knackered! Roll on half three.

Mine went off stupidly early this morning. They like the mechanics side more than the stats. 35 mins to go and it’s all over, just before the weather gets stinking hot next week. They’ve done quite well in avoiding extreme heat overall.

MiniMidiMaxi · 18/06/2026 15:41

Woohoo, and we’re done! (GCSE boy finished on Monday, so finally an exam free house). Maths was ‘really good’ DS says (Edexcel), though the online chat seems to suggest quite a few people found the mechanics part hard. He’s off marauding around town now!

Echobelly · 18/06/2026 15:43

It feels like the end of term because DC is done and DS finishes his Y10 tests and then they have a lot of trips and fun stuff for the rest of term

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/06/2026 15:44

Ooh I'm waiting for news, @MiniMidiMaxi I'm hoping DS has the same view as your DS!!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/06/2026 15:46

Oh no, the TSR is not very positive about it.

Glittertwins · 18/06/2026 15:50

Edexcel here, mechanics was good but they do physics. Since the questions didn’t come up on the physicals papers, they were expecting to come up in mechanics and they did. Last 2 stats questions were “meh” but overall quite happy.

AuntyBulgaria · 18/06/2026 15:56

DS found it hard. And is a bit down about it.

Last exam tomorrow. Let's hope it ends on a high.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/06/2026 16:12

Just heard from DS. His exact words were 'I've never had so much fun in an exam'! I take that to mean it went well!

Newlease · 18/06/2026 16:21

I tried to post few times and something went wrong. No news from DD yet as straight to training. But you would think she msg me, “nah”!!
anyway, I can see she is at training, so hopefully exams done and having fun!
thanks for the update @MiniMidiMaxi@JustHereWithMyPopcorn and @AuntyBulgaria are we all doing the same test, Edexcel Stat and Mechanics it is! That’s all I know.
And she didn’t look happy when she went out today, this gap didn’t do well, should have been done last week, or Monday! Anyway!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/06/2026 16:25

Yes, Edexcal here mech and stats
