...water

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.

Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

@KingscoteStaff my DS said the same about AQA biology. He is so happy to have finished it is a big night out for the boys tonight.
@Monkey2001 amazing news your DS has a fab attitude and a year out sounds like it is going to work out well.

HarrietDVane · 24/06/2022 21:46

DD's exams are all done! French today had one great question and one 'ok' question apparently. Now the long wait for results... Confused

EwwSprouts · 24/06/2022 22:24

@Monkey2001 Wonderful update! So glad your DS is finally getting a break & seeing the fruits of his labours. Pleased to hear St Andrews sorted, down to the wire!

AQA biology was 'pretty good'. Might just be the relief of no more.

272Newnames · 24/06/2022 22:29

@Monkey2001 great news all round!
DH and I are both insured on DS1’s car even though we don’t drive it, as it makes it a lot cheaper for him.

Monkey2001 · 24/06/2022 22:48

Thanks all, feeling the love on this nurturing thread!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 24/06/2022 23:12

Not long been in from our family celebratory dinner.
Fantastic news, Monkey! Funny how things fall into place; not getting an offer sounds like it might actually work out better for your DS.

Sorry you’re not feeling great, Orange. I hope you can find some time to rest and relax.

DD stayed in the city centre after our meal to go clubbing with all her school friends. Thankfully, she’s staying at a friend’s tonight, as I’m sure she’ll be in a state when they go home in the small hours!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 25/06/2022 06:56

So pleased for your DS @Monkey2001 he deserves to have some things going his way!

I put myself on DS1s insurance for exactly that reason, get the cost down. It still was eye watering but half the price of what my friend paid for her DS.

BlueMarigold · 25/06/2022 09:00

Exams finished in our house too. AQA Biology was good.

Glad to see your news @Monkey2001 !

Heifer · 25/06/2022 10:04

Great news @Monkey2001 - your DS so deserves this, as he seems to have handled everything thrown at him so well. I wish him all the best.

@BlueMarigold glad your DD found AQA Biology good - Seems most on here found the same, so that's good. DD def found P2 hard but P1 & P3 really happy with. Just got to wait now don't we :-)

Hope all have good weekends, not seen DD yet as she stayed the night at a friends after partying & then clubbing. (she text me at 2.00am to confirm she was going to). Hope she isn't feeling too rough this morning - a little rough is fine as a good reminder not to drink too much ;-)

Hope those that are feeling ill get better soonest and start to enjoy themselves.

scabby1 · 25/06/2022 12:34

@Monkey2001 Fantastic news!
I’m so pleased I finally “delurked” and joined this lovely, supportive thread.
I have a Dd who is just finishing lower sixth/year 12-I do hope there is a similar thread for her year. Is there anyone else in the same position?

Decorhate · 25/06/2022 12:41

So pleased to hear your good news @Monkey2001

Ds is finished too (think he’s pleased he dropped FM after Y12). We had a short leavers event at the school yesterday & thats’s us done apart from results day. Definitely ready for the next stage in life now.

icanbewhatiwant · 25/06/2022 14:07

Pleased to hear the good news @Monkey2001 and glad to hear most have finished exams.

Is it just my Ds with an exam left? He's still asleep at 2pm. No doubt he will be gaming when he finally gets up. He says he will revise Monday, apparently he's got all day to revise, so no need to do any over the weekend.

MirandaWest · 25/06/2022 15:44

That’s great news @Monkey2001 😊

Today both DS and DD have music activities - DD singing with her choir in a concert of church music at 7:30 and then a speedy drive back over to York to see DS and his band playing their first gig since they paused in April for exam reasons. Luckily as they’re headlining then they’ll be on last so I can see both 😊

pangolinfan · 25/06/2022 17:24

Yes @scabby1 I am the same as you: both a (very) recent delurker and have a DS just finishing Y12 with whom I need to go through the whole thing again. Will probably be quite different - he definitely doesn't have a spreadsheet with all his course and uni long lists and shortlists, unlike his older sister, and is approaching the whole thing much more tentatively 😀

mummyinbeds · 25/06/2022 18:22

@scabby1 I have a year 12 too. She's my spreadsheet one 😁 We currently have a very long shortlist and lots of variation of courses. DS only looked at Law and French Law and had to be forced to think beyond Nottingham.

MirandaWest · 25/06/2022 18:38

My DD is year 11 but has done more thinking about university than DS had by this time last year. I can imagine her having a spreadsheet 😂

Delphigirl · 25/06/2022 19:03

Same with my yr 11 @miranda. She has decided on a particular university abroad and has booked herself into a 2 week long summer academy this summer to check it out. I hope it meets her high expectations or it will be for the chop 🤣

Delphigirl · 25/06/2022 19:05

This is the kid who came downstairs after bedtime, aged 8, with a copy of the times’ supplement to private schools under her arm to inform me which secondary school she was going to.

thats the one she’s at 🤣

Heifer · 26/06/2022 09:57

Looking ahead to results day (I know it's a bit soon) just wondered is everyone's DD/DS going into school/college to collect the grades?

DD has thankfully had confirmation that they are to go into school from 8.30am and teachers will be around at school to help that day and the next, but I've just seen on WIWIKAU fb group there are lots that have been told their results will be emailed to them - and even some schools are actually shut - so I'm guessing not much help. They have also sent out a very useful guide on what to expect on the day and what to do if things don't go their way.

Seeline · 26/06/2022 10:16

Mine has to go into school from 8.30 to collect results even though school are emailing them out just after 8.00! Not sure why unless grades are lower than hoped for when staff will be able to advise on next steps. UCAS track updates around 8am as well I think.

ealingwestmum · 26/06/2022 10:25

DD will go into school, where there will be a whole bunch of staff to navigate those that need it, alternative options.

272Newnames · 26/06/2022 10:44

DS will get an 8am email. As far as I know school isn’t open although I think they are available on the phone.

i think it’s a bit sad. I can still remember driving out of school with my A level results, over the moon. Of course my poor parents had to wait until I got home to find out due to no mobile phones.

singingstones · 26/06/2022 10:45

DS can go into school at 9am, but results will also be emailed that afternoon for those who can't get there in person. I'm hoping he hasn't twigged the bit about the email because he would much prefer to get the news in private and would probably be tempted to wait for the email instead of going in. Not good for my blood pressure as I will be imagining clearing places being snapped up left, right and centre in the meantime. Of course if we find out from UCAS that he's in to his first choice, he can take his time, but then he won't mind finding out his grades in front of everyone else in that case!

(I must say I am already dreading it.)

craggyrat · 26/06/2022 10:52

Going in to school here as well I think from 8.15am.
