Corona Cohort: Statements Scripted, Grades Predicted

Monkey2001 · 20/09/2021 23:04

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

From OrangeCinnamonCocktail:

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@Isthisjustnormal my eldest DS is at Queen Mary’s in London for Comp sci. It is a campus Uni, really lovely and bear a big park. My DS actually runs the board games society and doesn't touch drugs or alcohol. I think the offers are in th A/B range. It is Russel Group if that matters to you.

Ooh, really @Wiifitmama: is he enjoying the course/experience? We are relatively close to London so ds has rather crossed off London unis, but I actually hadn't realised QM was a campus Blush

Thanks for the new thread @Monkey2001!

Wiifitmama · 20/09/2021 23:25

Yes he is enjoying it. He is actually doing a degree apprenticeship with Bloomberg so only at Uni two days a week but the degree is the same just spread over four years. He lives in a flat right near the campus. Lovely area. Canal walks, parks, etc. A lot of the Uni dorm buildings overlook the canal!

Wiifitmama · 20/09/2021 23:26

There is an in person open day there very soon if you want to experience it.

Thanks Monkey

Piggywaspushed · 21/09/2021 07:09

The 1000th post on the previous thread was me suggesting York for comp sci as it ticks your boxes. It's AAA though. Comp Sci is so competitive these days!

Piggywaspushed · 21/09/2021 07:20

Or UEA is BBB/ABC ? UEA is on a nice campus and Norwich is lovely.

And Sussex is ABB.

Isthisjustnormal · 21/09/2021 07:25

Thanks @Piggywaspushed: had missed that (I prob posted at just the wrong time really. Both York and uea sound worth digging into. Yeah, it is so complet it I’ve! Ds should be fine as his prediction is high but it would be good to at least have 1-2 which cover a ‘worst case scenario’ …

Isthisjustnormal · 21/09/2021 07:25

And Sussex. Thanks :-)

Volterra · 21/09/2021 07:27

Thank you Monkey

SandyBayley · 21/09/2021 07:28

@Wiifitmama: sounds gorgeous: he would love overlooking a canal! Will check out the open day :-)

Seeline · 21/09/2021 08:42

I'm here! Poor DD off sick again today. Really nasty coldy/fluy virus doing the rounds at her school. She tried to power through last week but it really got her over the weekend, and yesterday ended up with a UTI on top of it all. She looks so rough, and it getting anxious - she had/has 4 separate tests this week has missed 2 and hasn't been up to doing revision for any of them ☹️
