Thanks @Monkey2001. The new rules will indeed be handy. I have already said that I can get back home in a couple of hours so he must call me if he gets worse. At the moment it is stinking cold with no taste and smell, fingers crossed that is all he gets. He has at least had one vaccination in late June so hope that will help.

Heifer · 16/08/2021 08:07

@Seeline - Did you go to Nottingham last week? any tips? Where did you parkl/visit etc? - we are off this morning to Nottingham then York.

Well done to those who've done well on the UCAT etc - and EPQ I think I remember reading?

@EwwSprouts I finally got my accounts sent off yesterday to the accountant so only took me all week to get to it.. Now got lasts years to start (when we get back from our mini trip)

Hope you're fully recovered now @Piggywaspushed?

We are out of isolation today (hence the trip). Got to admit it's been hard as I was just starting to feel less Meh - I'm hoping this trip does us all good.

Also planned a trip in late Sept back home, where we are going to visit Bath, Bristol and Swansea.

Re Social Media agree it seems to be the way forward - although annoyingly it's put DD off re York - as "everyone" says it's boring now. Seems some of the few clubs have shut down since covid. Funny thing is that DD has never actually been clubbing properly so she has no idea if that will be her thing anyway. I've tried to explain that yes there are bound to be better nightlife in Manchester/Leeds/ etc but 1st instinct was to avoid the big cities.

Will be interesting to see what she thinks of York and Nottingham..

Heifer · 16/08/2021 08:08

Does anyone know how long you should wait after being positive for Covid until you get the jabs? as they are taking 16 yrs old now here on the Wirral.

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2021 08:30

At least 28 days.

stoneysongs · 16/08/2021 08:50

@Heifer Nottingham have a leaflet for self guided tours on their website, we're going on Saturday I think so please post any tips!

Heifer · 16/08/2021 09:22

Thanks @singingstones and @Piggywaspushed

stoneysongs · 16/08/2021 09:45

For anyone interested in Manchester, although their website says no tours, their self-guided tour app is still available. It's called Visit UoM and has lots of info, maps, walking route around the campus etc. DH and DS went yesterday.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/08/2021 11:02

DS did the Nottingham tour back at the beginning of July with DH. I don't have any tips but they both came away loving it.

DS has no wanted to go on any other tours and is having great difficulty choosing any other unis to put down on his UCAS list due to how specific he has made his requirements. He is convinced he is going to Notts and that's it. He's not listening to sensible advice.

In other news, he has found himself a job so will hopefully start to learn the value of money!!

We don't have a dog but do have this fella.

JustHere he’s a handsome beastie.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/08/2021 11:32

He is Zanda but he's a chonk!

Monkey2001 · 16/08/2021 12:06

Loving the animal pics, is that a Russian Blue? I don't know much about cats, but it looks like one I know.

It is fine to start with just the one choice as long as he gets the application in early and has time to add others if he doesn't get an offer from Nottingham or finds other courses he wants to add. If he is likely to get an offer and meet the grades it is a nice position to be in. I quite like the fact that we have a clear focus on Newcastle as it is baffling when there is too much choice!

mummabear74 · 16/08/2021 12:07

@Monkey2001 and @Fferny1 thanks for the information re age dropping for the vaccines. DD (16) went to a local drop in this afternoon and said it was very busy with teens.

@Orange what a gorgeous dog. I do believe things happen for a purpose and hopefully he will join your family soon. Also loving all the other pics. Unfortunately we don’t have a dog much to the children’s disdain but until they are prepared to help out with walking etc it’s a no as we both work full-time.

We’re off to visit Durham next week and visited Keele last week. Durham is aspirational (AAA) with current predictions AAB (more exams next month) and Keele as a potential insurance (BBC). Keele was a lovely, green campus and the tour was very informative. First one we’ve seen so DD has nothing to compare it with yet but she did like it. The tour took longer than expected so we didn’t have time to have a look around the local area outside campus.

Zandathepanda · 16/08/2021 12:12

Oo just learnt a new word. We have a 7.5kg chonk and a 3.5kg non-chonk. Non-chonk eats more but moves.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/08/2021 12:52

@Monkey2001 yes he's a Russian but he's not very classic looking, we've had a couple before that we adopted who had much more of the look. Still lovely though.

On choices, I didn't realise they could do that, I thought they had to apply to all at the same time. He might get an offer but his predicted are one grade down, although he just got his proper grade of an A* for his EPQ so hopefully that will help. Actually getting the grades is anyone's guess. I just worry he's limiting himself too much and then will get disappointed if he doesn't get in.

@Zandathepanda your 7.5kg is certainly a chonk! Grin Mine is 6.5kg and very long, the vet 'worries' about his weight every time we go but we don't overfeed, we're very strict, he's a hunter and eats anything he can catch (sadly) and I suspect there's a few neighbours who think he's an underfed stray (no collar but chipped) so happily put food out. Hmm

Wow JustHere what a fabulous overlord cat. We had several pets at one point but the demise of the hamster and goldfish populations has left us with dog, 2 cats and a leopard gecko. I wish I had a handsome and dignified photo to share but sadly not.

@Heifer and @singingstones Sorry just seen your messages re Nottingham (dropping DS back to uni in Bristol today!)

We loved Nottingham. Lovely man in the porter's lodge directed us to the visitors car park (pay and display -takes contactless) so we could wander as much as we liked. Couldn't really go inside anywhere but good to get a feel. I think all on campus accommodation is catered which DD wasn't keen on as she is rather fussy, but some of them looked lovely. Wasn't so keen on the one which was basically portacabins!! I think there is non-catered just outside the campus though. Hoping to go back for a proper open day.

Monkey2001 · 16/08/2021 16:55

Just I don't want to bore people by telling the same things over again (as my DC say I always do!) but yes, you can put one choice in when you submit, see what response you get and add the other 4 any time up to the UCAS deadline (26th Jan) for equal consideration. You can then keep adding up to the 5 max, but you are not guaranteed that they will be considered, particularly for the more competitive courses.

If you don't have any offers, you can make an application from Feb through UCAS Extra. Extra ends 4th July, then Clearing for people who have already met requirements as Clearing offers have to be unconditional, so A level people can't do anything in Clearing until mid August.

😂 I love your dog pic! I don’t know how you cope with so many animals, two was our maximum at any given time, one is enough now especially when he leaves entrails in the utility room…
JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/08/2021 17:05

Thank you for the info Monkey sorry if you have said this previously, I’m terrible at keeping up with how fast this thread can move but I appreciate your saying it again even if your kids don’t! 😀

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 16/08/2021 17:20

Thanks for lovely pet photos all Star I've been helping out at graduation ceremonies today. Lovely weather for it v emotional!

icanbewhatiwant · 16/08/2021 17:47

Oh my word @singingstones where had your dog been sticking its head? Is he/she a Labrador? Ds3 has a crested gecko, we probably should have had a leopard gecko...might be easier to catch.

KingscoteStaff · 16/08/2021 18:14

Here, for all his many fans, is our Emotional Support Rabbit, the most laid back creature in the world. DD considered taking him in for her UCAT test, but was worried he might chew cables…

BlueMarigold · 16/08/2021 18:41

Has anyone been on a Sheffield open day? What is it like?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/08/2021 18:41

What a beautiful rabbit Kingscote, my Ds2 would have him off you in the blink of an eye!!

Oblomov21 · 16/08/2021 18:58

Friends of ours bought a dog yesterday.
