Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!

DD has her driving theory test today - another hurdle to pass! No hope of a driving test though, certainly not before Uni, we are hoping she can get something in the Xmas hols.

Mrs08 · 05/08/2021 10:44

Ds got his theory but failed his first test.
Trying to get him another but atm it's December!

Preparing myself for all eventualities. I have got in a bottle of bubbly for celebration and tubs of ice cream for commiseration. I just don't know what to expect.
He is going away for the weekend which is probably for the best.

A useful video student video all about Clearing (how it works and advice).

NotSorry · 05/08/2021 11:56

Thankfully DS3 passed his practical driving test last week - he's been learning since Jan 2020 - getting a test has been a nightmare

good luck to all those still learning to drive, they'll get there eventually

Started talking to him today about various different parts of uni life (had 2 older DSs already been to uni so it's a bit easier this time round) he said it still doesn't feel real that he's going in a few weeks

pistachioicecream · 05/08/2021 15:07

Good luck to your DD @BigWoollyJumpers.

DS passed his theory about this time last year and has his practical driving test booked for the start of September. Was originally meant to be be February but got delayed because of lockdown. I'm not sure he's going to pass though and losing lesson and practice time from getting Covid isn't going to help. Fingers crossed - would be so much easier if he could just get it out of the way before he leaves.

Good luck to all those aiming for driving tests/theory Smile

DS is chipping away at his music theory to take grade 7 in case he decides to follow his heart (music) instead of his head (science), as he didn't take a level music.

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/08/2021 17:05

She passed Grin.

Well done to her

DD had same dilemma and finally plumped for music (although did do A level). Waiting to find out Tuesday if she’s got onto her dream course BA Music at York. I can’t deny I was a bit gutted when she made the decision, but she is so excited at the prospect it’s hard to feel regrets.
raspberryrippleicecream · 06/08/2021 01:12

DS2 also had the same dilemma, and did do A level music, but has gone for Maths, albeit at a uni with lots of extra-curricular music! I still wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to music. The director of music at his Cathedral Choir has an MMaths.

nancypineapple · 06/08/2021 03:54

Hello! Joining if I may?
Best of luck everyone.....getting worried thinking about Tuesday. DS needs A*AA so not holding my breath-his school gave no feedback or help at all with any of the assessments set.

NotSorry · 06/08/2021 07:14

Woke up feeling really anxious today. Doesn’t help that there are lots of “grade inflation” articles in the news. I really hate this, as though our DC are not going to deserve their grades. I know how hard my DS2 worked throughout an unprecedented 18 months and whatever he gets will be earned. I’m sure you all feel the same about your DC too.

Absolutely 💯

The DfE and Govt are simply trying to deflect from the shitshow of the past 18 months and its disgusting.

HOW is gavin Williamson still in a job!?

NotSorry · 06/08/2021 08:14

I’m so anxious I said DS2 - it’s DS3!

DS2 has also worked hard in spite of his year 1 of degree being cut short and year 2 having zero face to face. He’s currently grading at a 1st, hopefully his 3rd year will be a whole lot better and he can hang on to that first!

I'm going to suggest to say we go out on Monday night...
He went out with dh the night before his gcses and it helped and he slept well

NotSorry · 06/08/2021 08:39

DS3 has been invited out to dinner on Monday night with his gf's family - so I'll be sitting at home being anxious with DH who won't be fazed at all Grin
