A level results day 2021 support thread

Mrs08 · 31/07/2021 15:46

Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!
X

Just be aware it is not a be all and end all. DD last year had what she thought was a nightmare - Chemistry - C awarded by school... was going to appeal based on mocks... that avenue was withdrawn, did not get her preferred course at Bath who needed a B. Did not want to go through clearing as she knew she was worth more than a C.

She sat the actual exam in the autumn, got an A and is going this year. Had a job (invigilator! and reprographic officer at her old school covering for isolating staff) to fill her time during lockdowns, so is going with money in her pocket.

Make the most of whatever situation is presented - DD's didn't turn out too badly in the end.

BeyondMyWits · 02/08/2021 15:49

Forgot to add GOOD LUCK everybody, it will be a stressful few weeks.

NotSorry · 02/08/2021 15:50

@Mrs08

Yes, in previous years EPQs have been given on the same day

Mrs08 · 02/08/2021 16:11

Ah, I see.
I think ds will be donning the dressing gown of despair at some point 🤣

Hi @MaddieElla Grin here we are again waiting and stressing!! I really hope Physics comes through for DD.

I think EPQ results are on the same day thankfully!

whatisthisinhere · 02/08/2021 18:36

I need to be here. My stress levels are not too bad, but it comes over me in waves. Today it's been dealing with Student Finance England, knowing I can't sort out my ds life for him anymore, but he's just a little boy really. I want him to succeed, obviously, but I want to keep him at home. He's autistic, and not very streetwise.
A week to go.

I wasn't this stressed about my own results many decades ago.

Now I know how it was for my parents.

LaLaFlottes · 02/08/2021 18:40

@whatisthisinhere I know what you mean about coming over you in waves - I feel the same. It’s going to be a long week!

alilisbel · 02/08/2021 18:54

Eldest did Btecs in 2018 - got confirmation of result and firm changed to unconditional in the July that year. Results day was quite relaxed... this year youngest is needing D* AA for firm choice.....eek 7 days to go...

Mrs08 · 02/08/2021 19:08

A long week indeed...

Students can check their ucas track account from 8am (I think) on the 10th and see their university confirmation (or not 😳). Doesn’t tell them their grades, just whether they’ve been accepted, but will mentally prepare them before going to collect their results.

olliepolly · 02/08/2021 19:20

I should know what I am doing as it is the turn of DS youngest of 3!
Covid has made everything so uncertain and school have played it so straight that we have no idea what the outcome will be next week.
Think on this occasion we will check track first before going off to school. Can anyone tell me what time track actually opens on 10th and does it often crash on results day? He needs AAA for firm and an unlikely 2x A * A for insurance ( don’t ask )

LaLaFlottes · 02/08/2021 19:27

@olliepolly I’m pretty sure I read UCAS becomes available again from 8.30am but I can imagine it’s tricky to get on if so many are trying at once which will be a nightmare!

LaLaFlottes · 02/08/2021 19:27

@alilisbel 2018 sounds much more relaxing!

cptartapp · 02/08/2021 19:31

Placemarking. DS2 gets GCSE results on Thursday too.
Stressful week!

ablutiions · 02/08/2021 19:54

God I'm dreading it. DS has decided to take himself off on a little holiday so won't be at home on the 10thShock.we will have to rely on him calling us.

He had an awful time of 6th form and went from high achiever to U grades in a single year. After a psychiatrist intervention he improved and got mentally well but TBH it's anyone's guess what grades he will get.

Sincerely hoping that he gets what he wants (but still only to go to a 3rd rate place doing a generic degree vs the medicine track he was on originallySad) .

I know it will be alright in the end. He's a lovely chap. Kind intelligent and hard working. But I'm so very nervous for him.

Good luck to everyone!

I'm sorry to hear that.

It sounds like he's got the right idea though!

🤞 for him x

Dd is so anxious. She needs AAB and an A in Epq.

LaLaFlottes · 02/08/2021 20:07

@ablutiions I am sorry to hear this - but very glad he is now well. It sounds like he’s done extremely well to get to where he is and whichever university and degree he is hoping for will be a superb experience and will open other doors too Smile

Fingers crossed for all our young people (and for us). Gin at the ready!!

Mrs08 · 02/08/2021 20:07

Ds had a bit of a blip in January/February - He was just so stressed. His college kept moving the goalposts...he was told for 3 assessments in a row that they would be his ucas predicted grades. He got quite anxious and upset with the uncertainty.
He also had a blip at the end of 6th form (it was pretty much a non event really) so he's tried to keep busy.
He has been doing gardening/odd jobs for people, volunteering at foodbank and meeting up with friends.
It's been a rough 18 months.

I've booked a massage for next Monday evening and have a bottle of wine hidden in the dresser!!! 🍷😉

@Mrs08 it’s been a horrid time for them hasn’t it?
Uncertainty is absolutely horrible and goalposts changing is unfair.

A massage and bottle of wine for Monday evening sounds like an excellent plan!!

PaulGallico · 02/08/2021 20:36

I am glad your son is now well ablutiions. I hope he has a wonderful time at university. I also hope he doesn't feel that he is 'going to a third rate place' - to achieve a third rate degree. Sorry, I am sure you have had a difficult and worrying time but dismissive comments like that make me despair.

It's been dreadful for them, truly.

Good luck to all, its been such such difficult time for them. DD needs her predicted AAA and we're hoping for an A in her EPQ as well although not needed for her uni place.
