Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!

@EmeraldZ
Maybe as @Bryonyshcmyony says, or it might be that his application was strong enough in other ways that they could forgive him a dropped grade.

EmeraldZ · 10/08/2021 12:01

Ah right i see. He’s made up he’s got a place and to be fair I think he could have done even better if he’d have actually sat the exams but it’s over with now and he’s happy so that’s the main thing.

wantmorenow · 10/08/2021 12:01

Can I ask, DS has place confirmed, is there something he has to do now? He wouldn't log in in front of me, now gone out, does he need to accept and if so when by? He's so disorganised, it would be just our luck if he lost it due to not completing a step?

Need to find out which accommodation he gets now. Fingers crossed it's close to or on campus. He only put his finance form in 10 days ago, I only found out when I asked him to follow up why I hadn't had a request yet for financial information. He said he'd given up applying for finance as he couldn't log in. Didn't think to tell me. 😭

@RainBow725

Very happy house here too. One grade higher than needed for all subjects which just about makes up for having COVID. Off to Lancaster he goes 😊.
Congratulations to your son …my son went to Lancaster University and absolutely loved it there…fabulous campus .X

DS is off to Cardiff - so relieved! He got B in computing a level (was hoping for an A, but his teacher said his was one of the papers that got sent for moderation and he was borderline A/B but came back as a B and she was gutted, so no inflation there sadly) and he got D* x 2 and D in BTEc so ended up with 170 ucas points lol! He's happy and that's all that counts.

Well done and commiserations as appropriate Thanks

kittykitty

Where about are you? Are you looking for in person or online?

MPW are one of the well known crammers possibly also Justin Craig?

thegreylady · 10/08/2021 12:09

Dgd got confirmed offer from her first choice, Cardiff. They wanted AAB but have accepted ABB. A was in chosen subject.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 10/08/2021 12:10

wantmore

If the place is confirmed in Track then there is nothing more to do now. He will get info from the Uni on next steps.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 10/08/2021 12:10

Congratulations @Artdecolover that is amazing!!

wantmorenow · 10/08/2021 12:12

allthegreylady

Thank you, mind at rest now. He's bloody brilliant academically but the life skills are a work in progress lol.

EmeraldZ · 10/08/2021 12:12

Also my ds has just gone online to accept his place and he said there is no option to accept the place. Anyone know why?

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 12:12

@wantmorenow

I don't think there is anything to do at the moment

here is a handy page from UCAS

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 12:13

@EmeraldZ

he doesn't need to accept - see post above

Excellent news @RainBow725. My DS with covid is off to Lancaster too! Grin. Which college has he applied for?
Boulshired · 10/08/2021 12:27

DD having checked track first thing so knowing she had her firm has now got her results A* A and B (needed ABB). So all happy, she had looked at clearing last night and picked 5 back up but all have been removed so is extremely relieved. The system doesn’t really help those who are cautious, improve or who self doubt their ability. Adjustment only works if the courses have spaces.

kittykitty · 10/08/2021 12:27

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude we're in London. Was looking at Justin Craig, thanks! She's happy to do in person or online.

sailmeaway · 10/08/2021 12:48

The grades are clearly not right, close to half of all students getting As??
But if I were a student, I wouldn't care and they still have to get through the next stage of their education anyway. Hopefully by the time they've finished their degrees the top students will have a proper chance to shine above their peers.

MPW are also in London but they are £££ I believe

Longtimenewsee · 10/08/2021 12:53

Thank you all for your support over the last week or so. Dd got 3xA* and is off to Durham. So relieved
I am just going to read back on the thread. I hope everyone’s dc has had good news

crossstitchingnana · 10/08/2021 12:54

For those who replied to my question re UCAS, no she never got any offers. She has not heard a peep.

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 10/08/2021 12:55

@kittykitty - same boat here. DS predicted 2 A 2A and got 3 A 1 B and A in EPQ. I know these are objectively good grades but not what he needed or is capable of. Maths is particularly puzzling as he was achieving A submissions across the year and did not bomb the final internal exam.

He's thinking about October resits for 3 (!) subjects which is a massive ask. I think he'll need some kind of guidance, especially as this year has been so hand off already.

Minnie56 · 10/08/2021 12:59

This thread has kept me sane the last few days. DD got into firm (York) Needed AAB. Got A* A B. She was resigned to going to Bangor her insurance and loved it when we visited, so it wouldn’t have been the end of the world - but she was so happy when she got onto track this morning.
Congratulations to our DC, they’ve had a horrible 18 months. Hoping so much they get to fly now.

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 10/08/2021 13:01

If she didn’t hear anything offers wise it sounds like she didn’t apply - what is she saying?
kittykitty · 10/08/2021 13:04

@TheOriginalMrsMoss hard, isn't it? My daughter is definitely someone who'd have done great working in school and doing in person exams. These past two years have been her worst nightmare.

Am seething at the stupid teacher who told her this morning that he had been trying to work out whether to give her an A or not in economics which would have meant she got her second choice. What was he thinking?!!

LIZS · 10/08/2021 13:09

@crossstitchingnana sounds lime her application was not submitted then. She had to input her ps and academic record, choose the courses to apply for then get a reference added by her school/college then submit it. From the outset she woukd have had reference numbers so she should now be able to log in and see what has happened. If her course is still in Clearing it may still be possible to find a place but she needs to act fast. Did her school/college not support her through this or she think it odd she had no offers?
