Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!

@crossstitchingnana

What are your children logging onto? UCAS? My dd never heard from them after applying in Jan. I suspect the application process was never completed.
She woukd have had a login and student number from inputting her application. Did she receive offers and firm/insure them for the deadline in May/June.
NotSorry · 10/08/2021 09:48

@EmmaGrundyForPM

the insurance would have rejected him because the firm had confirmed place - it's just administration really

frugalkitty · 10/08/2021 09:49

Loughborough is confirmed so we have a very happy and relieved DS! Accommodation slot booked tomorrow so hopefully he'll get one of his choices and I can turn my attention to DD and her gcse results on Thursday.

For those who have missed out, hang in there, things often work out better in the long run.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/08/2021 09:49

@NotSorry oh, that makes sense!

LIZS · 10/08/2021 09:50

It is unusual fir uni to review a grade miss automatically having already rejected a student on UCAS. They get grades days in advance so normally meet before then, but maybe other accepted students released places so they offered previous candidates rather than go to Clearing.

ablutiions · 10/08/2021 09:50

Poor DS - still no track update but he knows that his firm have not accepted him (he called them) so he's having to phone UCAS to do it all manually so he can accept his insurance. What a shit show.

And the accom portal for his insurance has just crashed too.

I despair.

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 09:51

I'm relieved it's the last one (of 3!) DS2 moving into his next uni house on Friday, mum and dad going with him to help clean old house Hmm

stoneysongs · 10/08/2021 09:54

@MMMMMaria

Track says didn’t meet conditional offer for insurance option. Firm option isn’t updated, how can we check if there is an offer for the firm choice? No email from Uni.

All this tells you for sure is that DC is not going to their insurance. Phone the firm - either they are still deciding whether to let them in (waiting to see if anyone better comes along through clearing or adjustment), or they have decided one way or another and have forgotten to tell UCAS.

igelkott2021 · 10/08/2021 10:00

DS got A*AB and is off to York.

I thought the insurance university only comes into the equation (to consider a candidate) IF the firm doesn't accept them?

WhoEatsPopTarts · 10/08/2021 10:04

UCAS confirms DSs insurance, he’s happy with that but would have preferred his first choice which was AAB and he got ABB. The course is on the Uni website in clearing with AAA so higher than his offer. Is it worth contacting them? What’s the best way of going about it? The A is in the degree subject.

It's always worth it but we did similar a couple of years ago and they said the clearing courses were for those who had done better than expected 🙄
StealthRoast · 10/08/2021 10:10

I fell back asleep to my shame and ds came down the stairs to tell me he had got his predicted grades of BBB which seems to have surprised him. He thought it would be BBC or BCC so is happy. Not sure what this means over going to university this year though as he’s so unsure. His first choice offer wanted BBC so he’s in. Can’t get on UCAS as his Apple mouse needs charging which I didn’t know.

Will check in later.

SarahAndQuack · 10/08/2021 10:19

@IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble

DD didn't get UCL but got Queen Mary, absolutely distraught.

Shes going to go in and see what her grades were and see if her teachers feel there is any grounds for appeal. She was predicted AAA

She just said I feel so dumb, broke my heart

I just wanted to say, Queen Mary is lovely. Such an amazing historic campus and great people. I'm sure you're telling your DD, but she absolutely isn't dumb.
WorraLiberty · 10/08/2021 10:24

DS is off to King's College London

He's only just gone to pick up his results as he was doing his hair for 40 minutes 🙄🙄

If the DC has missed the offer for their insurance, it's possible for them to reject before a firm has decided one way or the other, I think. Maybe unusual because often the firm offer is higher so more likely to reject (you'd think), but that's not always the case. This year some courses will be full earlier than usual because of the way grades have been decided.

Is there any way round the fact that the Russell group aren’t doing clearing? I have a relative with 4 A *s who would like to choose a different course and uni. I presume there’s nothing she can do apart from accept one of her 2 offers?

WorraLiberty · 10/08/2021 10:27

@NotSorry, as was the bacon sandwich 🤣

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 10/08/2021 10:28

Congratulations on all your DC's hard work, the results don't take anything away from them, their character or their intelligence.

A friends DC got an offer from a fantastic University, top in the world, but last minute decided it was too far and randomly picked one through clearing. Friend has said they are beyond relieved as DC is so happy and contented. There are always other options!

There is something called adjustment which is for this situation and a bit different from clearing maybe worth a look:

ablutiions · 10/08/2021 10:35

Just on the phone to DS insurance. Apparently there will be further track updates throughout the day as UCAS track crashed and they are updating in batches.

Adjustment not clearing but no idea if any vacancies

When I last looked there were quite a few RG universities with clearing places including Warwick, York, Cardiff, Southampton and Leicester.
