Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!

@alilisbel

I said to my DS2 tonight - i know plan A (firm)and B (insurance) - do you want to think at all about plans C,D,E, and F? No words spoken but I got the "look" clearly saying no!! .

Mum will be researching appeals, autumn exams and clearing on her own this week then!

Tonight he decided he did want to look at clearing availability for if he drops 2 or 3 grades - we now have a plan C list if its needed!!
Artdecolover · 08/08/2021 21:27

Ds enjoyed his pizza and film trip.
Film was tripe but he enjoyed it.
I think he's going to see a friend tomorrow.
I'm seeing a friend too and have a massage booked ☺
2 more sleeps 😬

No, you're not but do you have anything you can do/speak to about your anxiety?

I think that its probably the culmination.of the last 18 months and everything that's happened since March 2020?

We've all been through so much. It's not surprising you feel overwhelmed.

Try and do something relaxing/that you enjoy tomorrow x

NotSorry · 08/08/2021 22:10

@ljmutti

Try and keep busy tomorrow, that’s how I cope

You’re not being a wimp, we all want the best for our DC and the last 18 months have been horrible for them - not the 6th form experience they should have had

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 08/08/2021 22:13

i am absolutely churned up with anxiety today. My stomach is lurching.
I just want it over with so we can concentrate on what happens next.

MrsAvocet · 08/08/2021 23:00

My DS has just announced that come what may, he definitely wants to take a gap year. It's not a bad decision really as not only is he very young for the year group, he's on the waiting list for an operation that we'd hoped would be done by now, but....well you know what ai'm going to say don't you?! We saw his surgeon a couple of weeks ago and he's no idea when it will be as operating capacity is so uncertain at present. It does make sense for him to be at home until it's done and he's recovered, but now we need to find out of either of his offers will defer his place. I guess there's no point in worrying about that until he's got the results though. If he doesn't get the grades the issue disappears and if by some miracle he does better than predicted he might prefer to reapply anyway. I'll just be glad when it's over. My eldest did a performing arts degree so her place was dependent on auditions rather than exam grades, so I've not had sleepless nights over A level results since my own in 1984!

You aren’t being a wimp @ ljmutti. I feel the same. And I totally agree with you @NotSorry they haven’t had the 6th form experience at at all. Even after all these years my 6th form years ate still so powerful in memories, growing and good times. I went to uni and had a great time, but my 6th form years were so amazing. I feel so much for them all not having that. My DD spent her 18th bday in lockdown. They’ve have their youth robbed from them and can’t ever get it back. That’s why it feels just so important that they get to go and and experience this next stage.
Good luck to all our DC Tuesday. They deserve so much. Tomorrow is going to be a looooonng day xxxx

whatisthisinhere · 08/08/2021 23:07

I keep having to take deep breaths. Ds has asked me to go with him and wait for him outside. I'm going to have to put on such a brave face. I'll be sitting in my car outside trying to stay calm. It's probably better than sitting at home and fretting, and if he needs me there, then that where I'll be. He swings between being laid back that he'll do maths somewhere and worrying that there aren't that many clearing places. We've also talked about taking a year out and trying something different, but I don't think he can get his head around it.

Two more sleeps. Hoping we all get some sleep

Artdecolover · 08/08/2021 23:12

I had a blast at 17...very happy memories.

I was working pt in a bar/restaurant. I was learning to drive, enjoying my studies and went on holiday with 3 friends to Cornwall for 2 weeks (No ibiza back then...)

My ds hasn't had any of that. His driving lessons have been all over the place. He hated remote learning. No work, no trips...just rubbish for them all.

I've just lathered myself in Neom lavender body butter so hopefully I'll sleep! ☺

Boulshired · 08/08/2021 23:40

I agree It’s they have missed shared memories with college friends, the memories that when you meet up you always have something to remember and laugh about. Dd made new friends but doubtful if they are long term friends as she still knows very little about them. She is still reliant on her school friends. Whereas DS1 has shared a uni house with 9 friends and have bonded, not leaving their house share till the last minute and constantly in touch and laughing about their time together. 17 to 19 was the biggest change in personality for me but DD is still slightly frozen in time and even though there is only a year’s difference in age DS1 is an adult, DD at 18 is still in someways a adolescent year 11.

ablutiions · 09/08/2021 03:36

It's 3.30 am and we are up as DS is off on his trip overseas and has an early flight. It seems like 5 minutes ago that he was little and we were off on family camping holidays. Wink

Now here he is, 6 feet tall, off on his own to spend time with a GF I've never met (she lives overseas as well)., all whilst waiting for what are probably the most important results of his life so far. Gulp.

I miss him already and he's only just left the house. So excited for him, but could honestly cry with the emotion of it all.

Big day. Deep breath.

How is everyone else feeling on results-eve?

Longtimenewsee · 09/08/2021 06:42

Aww @ablutiions I hope he has a great time! Nail-biting for you, but V exciting for him to be going away!! . I’m so glad our young people are having some fun.. they deserve it

I agree @Boulshired- they have definitely been affected . I feel so sorry for them. They missed out on so much. Dd seems like she’s trying to cram a lot of fun stuff into this summer. She’s also working a lot which is really helping her independence and maturity ( nothing like serving the British public for helping with that!). But yes - In many ways I feel like she’s trying to pick up from where she was in the summer after gcses .

@ljmutti .. not long now .. I’m trying to keep busy too! I find that crap tv boxsets and craft helps with the distraction Smile

NotSorry · 09/08/2021 07:05

Managed to sleep ok but woke up feeling nervous, got lots of work to keep me busy all day today thankfully

Artdecolover · 09/08/2021 07:49

Woke early. Ugh.

Ds is going to see a friend today.

Hope ds has a great trip @ablutions!

Well....1 more sleep! 😬

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 09/08/2021 08:27

I don’t feel very nervous which is worrying, i will undoubtedly feel sick tomorrow morning

Ds2 is working in a very busy pub (it is by the sea and he is delighted when it rains cos it will be quieter) quite a bit so I don’t think he has had time to feel nervous but i think he’ll be the same as me tomorrow

Apparently he wants to get there for 8.30am so it’ll be over quickly one way or the other! We are taking him out for breakfast straight after, can’t be lunch as he is working

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow morning….hopefully the government will pull its fucking finger out and not let this happen again, they should have sorted the criteria for this years exams back in September, if not before

Must be so hard to let him go @ablutiions but I'm sure he'll have a great time.

DD got up, got a drink and annouced she was going back to bed. I think today is going to be the longest day and I'm going to leave her to go whatever she needs to do to get through it.

At least by this time tomorrow we will know, she plans to check Track before she goes into school.

Hope the day passes quickly for you all!

TheSmallAssassin · 09/08/2021 08:50

Found this thread on The Student Room which explains what happens on Track tomorrow, hope it's helpful!

pistachioicecream · 09/08/2021 08:55

Hope you're ok @ablutiions and DS has a great time.

After not a great nights sleep, am hoping for a busy day at work today to keep me occupied. Hoping I'll be so tired tonight after last night that I'll just pass out ;-)

Will just be relieved when the waiting is finally over. It's been such a rollercoaster.

hope everyone manages to keep busy today.

iknowimcoming · 09/08/2021 09:04

Woke up feeling sick again, but luckily have a 2 year old tornado about to arrive for the day (my niece) so that will be a good distraction!

One of my favourite sayings for you all "everything will be alright in the end, and if it's not alright it's not the end!" Stay strong everyone - this time tomorrow it'll all be over (the waiting at least!" Thanks

BigWoollyJumpers · 09/08/2021 09:15

Had a terrible nights sleep, full of dreams about DD's uni being a terrible experience. Woke up at 4am in a muck sweat. I blame you lot 😂😂

DD's course is in clearing and with a quite low tariff, which DD is actually quite pissed off about. Just goes to show you can't please everyone 🙄

Charlieandlola · 09/08/2021 10:09

Thank you to whomever mentioned WhatUni - really helpful and reassuring that there are options :)

Feel sick to my stomach though still.
