Marmite - glad you are making such good progress.
Chocolate - great to hear that your daughter is enjoying her job and good luck to your dd2 for her GCSEs.
Dd only has five weeks left until the end of the school year and then we are off to South Korea and Japan for two weeks. Dd and I will then have a week in Vietnam at the end of July. Am making the most of all these good value holidays as we will move back to Blighty next year.

UrsulaPandress · 17/05/2019 17:26

Going back to my issue with presentations making up part of DD's History course, there was a story in the paper yesterday about a student who killed her self apparently due to fear of having to present in front of 300 other students. I only read the headline so don't know any details but how terrible.

DD has just phoned to tell me that she has chosen to study the court case of Lady Chatterley's Lover for one of her exams. History? History? (I was 60 yesterday)

TapasForTwo · 17/05/2019 17:39

That's awful Ursula.
Happy birthday for yesterday. I reached the same milestone 6 months ago. Cheap rail travel and free prescriptions - silver linings.

UrsulaPandress · 17/05/2019 18:30

I already get free prescriptions as I’ve had breast cancer. Every cloud!

Just waiting for my bowel testing kit.

Happy Birthday for yesterday :)

They don't hang around with those Ursula. I got mine within a few days of turning 60.

UrsulaPandress · 17/05/2019 21:24

Had the explanatory letter today.

UrsulaPandress · 17/05/2019 21:24

Thanks OYBBKn

The Lady Chatterley court case was made into rather a strange drama with the actor who was Leonard Bast I think, about the two jurors affected by the proceedings. Otherwise, I think it is quite an important piece of History, because of the prosecution statement about "servants and wives", was it?. And it was already a world that had vanished by 1962, the Big House and the WW1 survivors etc. Poor Lawrence is not very fashionable atm tbh.

The student who died told her tutors how she felt, I think it was that there was no proper way of getting help for her and no-oneperson was in charge of her case (NHS wise), that is what was shocking. But I think that to be able to present your work, is an important skill, and the fact that she could not and so incredibly anxious about it, was flagging up how ill she was. Why on earth wouldn't they alert someone..it is like not being able to leave the house.Sad

ds seems a bit low today. He is reliving some embarassing moments from last term - I am actually relieved he has, I think it was burdening him, but clearly lacks friends who he can say these things to, wanting always to present a cheery with it straightforward personality to his new mates. He did some work for me, it was like pullilng teeth. I sent him to the shop for groceries and he brought back everything different..and refused to acknowledge there was such a vegetable as petits pois. It didn't help that he met his younger brother in Morrisons and together they rubbished my request for tomato seedlings, ds2 suggested cactus plants instead, and as for coat hangers they trailed around in search of them but never discovered where they could possibly be..Men do not like to ask directions do they? AngryGrin

Happy Birthday to Ursula and Tapas!

Nettleskeins · 17/05/2019 21:43

oh, I seee..you are saying that 1962 is very recent, not that it LC court case isn't an important event. I am bit literal.Blush
I was born in 1965. I do remember mini skirts, or rather I remember the irritating thing that all my mother's fairly recently worn Mary Quant clothes were too short when I tried to borrow them in the late seventies (being of course too tall, as per another post Confused)

TapasForTwo · 17/05/2019 22:56

Thank you Nettle. It was 6 months ago Grin
I hope your DS's spirits improve soon.

UrsulaPandress · 17/05/2019 22:58

Sorry. Yes I meant it seems strange for her to be studying an event that happened in my lifetime in History.

ShanghaiDiva · 18/05/2019 05:25

Happy birthday Ursula!

marmiteloversunite · 18/05/2019 08:07

Happy Birthday Ursula!! Hope you had a lovely celebration!

TapasForTwo · 18/05/2019 08:18

I know what you mean. When DD was revising for GCSE history she did the Vietnam war, which I remember very well.

TheFirstOHN · 18/05/2019 10:35

Happy birthday Ursula!

DS1 is fine, but I am having a frustrating week.

My GP had referred me to a specialist to investigate a benign condition. I had the scan and appointment this week. They didn't mention the thing I wanted investigating at all.
However they told me that (1) they suspect a different condition (painful, difficult to treat) and that (2) they also saw a separate thing on the scan that concerns them and now I've been referred urgently for an invasive 'oscopy and biopsy.

If they are correct about (1) it's not life-threatening but still (literally) a pain.
(2) is probably nothing, but I could do without the horrible procedure or the uncertainty.

TheFirstOHN · 18/05/2019 10:41

I feel bad complaining about this, especially as there are those on here who have had to endure months of cancer treatment.

It's just that it was a bit of a surprise. I went to the appointment alone, and DH is working away this week, so I haven't been able to talk to anyone.

TapasForTwo · 18/05/2019 11:09

I hope it is something that can be easily resolved TheFirst Flowers

UrsulaPandress · 18/05/2019 11:14

Sorry to hear that First.

It’s good that they pick other stuff up though. I’ve had lots of investigations recently which seem to just point the the fact that I’m a fat cow. I still worry that there is something else going on.

Good luck with your oscopy’s.

Did I tell you all about my colposcopy?

TheFirstOHN · 18/05/2019 11:28

I’ve had lots of investigations recently which seem to just point the the fact that I’m a fat cow.

Surprisingly, neither the sonographer nor the specialist mentioned my obesity, which was refreshing.

UrsulaPandress · 18/05/2019 11:37

It was just my GP to be fair. And she was very gentle about it. As if I hadn’t noticed 😂

chocolateworshipper · 18/05/2019 11:38

Thefirst Very sorry to hear that - how worrying for you. I do hope that you will get proper answers soon.

TheFirstOHN · 18/05/2019 12:15

Thank you chocolateworshipper I think the reason I'm feeling a bit put out is that I had hoped this week's scan and appointment would provide answers and instead it just raised more questions.

I know I should be grateful for good health up to now and I am certainly grateful for access to the NHS and free investigations / specialist care. But at the moment I'm in pain and feel like a grumpy teenager. I may stamp my foot to see if it helps.

UrsulaPandress · 18/05/2019 12:22

I am still waiting for the results of biopsies done in November.
