I'm piling his notes into a storage box, and thinking: A levels are no mean feat.
Haudin that is great she is "revelling" - just what uni is for, to have the chance to study and enjoy it.

TheThirdOfHerName · 19/09/2018 16:16

DS1 failed his driving test today (this was not a big surprise to him or me). On the positive side, at least he still has his provisional licence to use as ID at Freshers.

flatmouse · 19/09/2018 16:29

Sorry to hear that third. DS retaking his during Xmas hols (doing multiple lessons in preceding week).

NoHaudinMaWheest · 19/09/2018 16:33

the third hopefully he isn't too down about it.

HesMyLobster · 19/09/2018 17:24

Ah sorry Third, I can imagine dc feeling like it's something they want to get ticked off before they go, but like flat said, there will be plenty of time during holidays to do it.

raspberryrippleicecream · 19/09/2018 17:40

Sorry to hear that Third, hope he comes back inspired at Christmas.

DD rang last night for a lovely long chat. She is tired and full of cold, but is happy. Such a relief. She was buzzing because a place had come up on her preferrred option so she can swop, she's missed the first lecture and seminar but will soon catch up. And apparently the first Greek lecture was really good.

Her subjects are completely different to school so no need for A level notes. Though I have just found a box with all her GCSE flashcards, I'm hoping she will get rid of those too.

TheThirdOfHerName · 19/09/2018 17:41

Thank you all. The fact that he's leaving on Saturday should distract him. He might give the driving another go next summer.

Nettleskeins · 19/09/2018 18:31

I sent ds a message saying are you alive, the message came back," yes." No more than that!!
I did think of pretending a parcel had arrived for him and asking him if he wanted it forwarded, but I suspect the answer to that would have been merely Yes too.

marmite hope you are out of surgery
raspberry brilliant, Greek lecture sounds exciting (although it is now inextricably linked in my mind with that film with Brad Pitt in it Hmm
third at least he tried, and now he knows what he is up against. They say that failing first time makes you a safer driver in the long run.

I've just been watching a programme about the Tudors, and to my absolute shock my old A level History teacher was on it. Looking exactly the same and with the same voice. eek. She has clearly moved onto higher things tudor attitudes to love

starfleet · 19/09/2018 18:50

Nettles Grin I have often been know to send that particular text to DS. And I get the same answer back!

marmite - sending you good wishes, hope all went well

TheThird - hope he isn't too despondent about his driving test - DS failed his the first time too.

ras

starfleet · 19/09/2018 18:53

Sorry posted that before I'd finished!

raspberry - that's all sounds very positive and great that's she's enjoying it

DS has been to a couple of induction sessions, he was complaining that he was tired as yesterday's was so long - from 11am-5pm. I think I told him to suck it up...he wasn't tired enough to not go out to watch football last night!

Downeyhouse · 19/09/2018 19:17

Thinking of you marmite.

Sorry to hear about the driving test third.

Well the sun has just gone down for what feels like the last time on ds’s childhood!

Tomorrow morning we set off for the UK and leave the home and country he has lived in all his life. I know he will be back in the holidays but after today he will never live here again full-time.

Am allowing myself a nostalgic day!!!!

I sat and wrote him a letter today which I plan to leave on his bed when I say goodbye on a Saturday. Very emotional process but therapeutic. Got down everything I wanted to say and have kept a copy for me to pour over in my old age :)

It has just been me and the 2 ds for the last 10 years. He is going to leave a large empty space when he goes.

But I am so proud and excited for him. This is what he needs. I will pop on my big girl pants tomorrow and I will spend the next 3 days beaming and cooing with excitement. I am hoping to not let my guard down until I start the 2 day drive home! There will be plenty of hours to wallow then.

raspberryrippleicecream · 19/09/2018 19:47

Also sending good wishes to Marmite.

Downey hope you have a good drive over. You sound very brave.

DD did say the only downside of getting her first choice was the earliet start time -
she now has to be at uni at 10 twice a week instead of 11!

marmiteloversunite · 19/09/2018 19:54

I'm home!! After telling DD no drugs for weeks I took all the drugs I could get!! Pupils like pin pricks!Grin

I am very sore and sleepy but so happy it is done. Just wanted to let u all know as u have been so kind!

Just got to get through biopsy results on 1st October and then any treatment.

Early night now.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 19/09/2018 20:05

I am glad it is done and your are home marmite. Best wishes for a goodnight's sleep and a good recovery.

UrsulaPandress · 19/09/2018 20:12

Great to hear from you marmite.

flatmouse · 19/09/2018 20:25

Rest up marmite and positive vibes for biopsy results.
downey good luck to you, I'm sure DS will treasure the letter.

Bekabeech · 19/09/2018 20:32

Lonicera - have you heard of the International Citizens Scheme? It's a bit like NCS but works with Charities overseas (good ones like VSO), it seems more than just Voluntourism.
There are also a few organisations that do jobs at US summer camps. There are also chances to work as a Chalet Maid. Or jobs on Organic Farms.

My DD is writing her CV and going to apply for various horse related jobs. And starts volunteering tomorrow I think.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/09/2018 20:37

yay marmite :) Welcome back!!! Lovely to see you posting again. Sleep well tonight.

TheThirdOfHerName · 19/09/2018 20:46

Well done marmite
Now get some rest!

UrsulaPandress · 19/09/2018 21:02

Been to see DD this afternoon. (DH couldn't come as he had forgotten he is having an OP tomorrow and needed to start taking his clear out medicine. )

She seems remarkably settled. Really likes her flat mates. Is now glad it's just girls and they are already talking about sharing next year.

She needs to improve her diet and get more sleep but she keeps saying 'It's Freshers!'

raspberryrippleicecream · 19/09/2018 21:15

Ahh Marmite, lovley to hear from you. Have a good rest!

Ursula glad DD is settling and hope tomorrow goes well for your DH.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/09/2018 21:32

None of those things appeal to DD Bekabeech. They are just too physical for her. She wouldn't do anything like being a chalet maid either as she is vegetarian and won't touch meat.

We have just come back from a local shopping mall where she has handed in CVs with covering letters to shops that have requested this kind of application, and asked at several more shops about Christmas temp vacancies.

She has seen an evening class art course that starts in January that appeals (she is very good at art and often draws for pleasure)

Glad to see you on here Marmite. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

chocolateworshipper · 19/09/2018 21:34

That all sounds positive ursula

Commiserations thethird

Welcome home marmite (I hope you think of this thread as your second home). Rest up and take all the drugs you like - you deserve it Flowers

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/09/2018 21:34

I'm glad it's done and you're home Marmite. Drugs are good when they're medicinal, take as many as you need right now.

I've been on a course today and I'm still not home. I'm not getting home today :( All the trains have been cancelled because of the winds, and after 4 hours on various trains trying to get home via a very convoluted route, I'm now stuck in a different city than I started out in, but it's still not my city. Luckily, I have family in this new city (on the opposite side of the country from both my city and the city I was in for my course), so I'm staying there tonight with no clean clothes and no toothbrush. What a day!!!

littledrummergirl · 19/09/2018 21:40

Hi Marmite, good to hear your doing OK. My advice is take the drugs, don't worry about stopping them until you are in much less pain. You deserve to be pain free.

We have packed Ds1 up over the last two days, he brought everything downstairs so I haven't had to go into his room yet- I have a feeling that will be difficult.
His bedding is ordered for us to collect and his food shop is ready to go. I haven't yet bought the train tickets though, three attempts at the station. The first time I was told by the ticket office that it wasn't possible ( 4 tickets to London including the underground), then that it is possible but the adult, child and 16-25 cardholder will all pay the same! The last 2 attempts they had closed early.
Hopefully I can get the tickets tomorrow and reserve seats.
