Nettles I know, by chance my auntie is having a big birthday meal four weeks after he goes, so that will be a good opportunity for him to come back...not too soon, but not too long either. I know I just have to let him go at his own pace, but it's hard not to interfere/organise.

Knittinganewme · 18/09/2018 19:31

Ds has grudgingly gone to a social. They are on pub two, one person had been sick by 7pm (possibly the one that had three in the first pub) and I had a text to say that an ambulance had arrived for someone who had fallen over. He is a diet coke drinker and has been unimpressed at the antics this week.

Knittinganewme · 18/09/2018 20:29

Update - the ambulance was not called for one of their party which I feel slightly better about.

Petalflowers · 18/09/2018 21:02

DS has impressed us today. It’s our wedding anniversary and he has sent us a lovely present. He’s never really bought anniversary presents before. Although, the gift is lovely, the fact that he has bothered to research and order us a present means so much.

Now feel fat after eating chocolate!

Marmite - hope everything is okay.

captainoftheshipwreck · 18/09/2018 21:15

Chocolate is no more? Grin

HardwickWhite · 18/09/2018 21:18

Best wishes for the rest of the week Marmite.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/09/2018 22:02

Shock How could you Petal?

Gave up waiting for the gp to get their flu vaccine in so paid for dd to have hers today. This wait before she starts seems forever.

How could I what? Eat chocolate.

We still have some chocolate left.

Downeyhouse · 18/09/2018 22:16

Good luck marmite will be thinking of you tomorrow.

That is sweet Petals :)

Went shopping at lunchtime and got 60 photos printed off for ds. Years since I have had photos printed!!!! They are to try to liven his room up with.

He wants to get a couple more I missed.

Silly question - but left the UK 20 years ago - are there shops with self service machines where you plug your phone and print photos off and if so where could we find one. Ours is in a large hypermarket - do supermarkets have those?

Downeyhouse · 18/09/2018 22:17

Thanks for any guidance - sorry for being useless but on our trips over I was never looking for one so don’t have a clue how it works now in the UK Confused

Knittinganewme · 18/09/2018 22:19

Downey You want a Max Speilmann, ours shares a space with Timpson the shoe repairers.

Petalflowers · 18/09/2018 22:31

Hi Downey, yes there are a few stores that do that. Larger Boots, Snappy snaps etc. Or go online, and order there by downloading (uploading?) your photos. There’s plenty of sites that can do this.

UrsulaPandress · 18/09/2018 23:00

Printed some off for dd today in big Tesco. Relatively easy even for a Luddite like me. no I didn't print two copies of some by mistake

Downeyhouse · 19/09/2018 04:19

Many thanks guys for your help.

I look very British (Celtic coloring) and sound very British but come to England and sometimes bumble around like a clueless tourist!

It confuses people - especially when I try to use out of circulation bank notes or coins from my currency drawer at home 😂😂
They look at me as I am stupid.

However I will not look clueless this time thanks to you all! :)

2 you say Ursula .... yup did that too! :))

For example

Downeyhouse · 19/09/2018 04:20

Not sure how that extra

For example snuck in :)

flatmouse · 19/09/2018 06:51

There's an app called "free prints" that allows you to print direct from your device. Just postage. You get 45 free prints per month but options to pay minimal to add more, get bigger size etc. Came quickly, DS was v happy with his.

UrsulaPandress · 19/09/2018 07:32

Ooh thanks for that. Looks great.

HesMyLobster · 19/09/2018 08:20

Thankyou flatmouse! Just what I've been thinking of looking for but not quite got round to looking!

DD has an entire wall of her bedroom covered in photos so I'm going to get copies of some of her favourites printed. Not sure she'll get away with a whole wall in her university room though!

I feel like this week is slipping past too quickly! I've barely seen DD the past 2 days - she was out overnight last night and going out the next 2 nights with friends/boyfriend.

I may have to ask her to pencil us in at some point on Saturday so we can see her before she leaves on Sunday!

starfleet · 19/09/2018 09:04

Photobox is also one of those sites.

45 free prints and you pay £3 (ish) for postage. I just used my phone to upload photos. Really easy.

Nettleskeins · 19/09/2018 09:19

still heard nothing from ds since "24 hour later" text.
Hope this is good news!

It is at the back of my mind to "wonder" what is happening with him, but things seem to be so busy here it is not taking centre stage.

I'm travelling tomorrow ot another country too. Finally moved his stuff properly (instead of in sacks) to box room, and put it away in coherent places. Still fighting the moth war though. Moved an old mattresses downstairs, only to find I cannot get anyone to remove it for at least a week, so to my frustration I had to put it back in nice clean room again as there is no space in the front garden anymore (old sofa there already!)

Did anyone keep A level notes if they were the same subject as uni course? What do you think? (I know someone doing Chemistry was it Flatmouse? had this problem, but then in the end it wasn't important)

LoniceraJaponica · 19/09/2018 09:28

DD has kept her chemistry and biology notes and text books as it might benefit her to have a refresher during her gap year.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 19/09/2018 09:33

I am not sure that A level notes would be much use really. Even if they are doing the same subject, the approach seems to be different.
Obviously I don't know about every subject but dd is doing maths as one of her outside subjects and has expressed no desire for her A level material and I did languages and didn't need my school material at all.

DD has started her classes and seems to be revelling in the academic side. One of her outside subject is the same as one of my main subjects and I was amused to find out that the lectures are on the same time and days as mine were 40 years ago.

flatmouse · 19/09/2018 09:36

Chemistry was his bete noir - notes got thrown immediately!! He took psychology text books with him as that is part of his course and his psychology notes are in cupboard in his room at home.
Trying not to contact him, but DH is incapable of not saying morning each day! DS has gone to enrol this morning.

flatmouse · 19/09/2018 09:40

.. and on that note he told family chat that enrolment was easy and he got a free thermal cup!

LoniceraJaponica · 19/09/2018 09:47

"I am not sure that A level notes would be much use really. Even if they are doing the same subject, the approach seems to be different."

You might be right. We talked to the admissions tutor for biomedical sciences at York at the weekend and he said that they start the course assuming that the students have a lower knowledge base. At Lancaster they said that they have to unteach some of the stuff the students learned at A level.
