Catslife thank you for sharing that good news.

TheThirdOfHerName · 09/10/2018 20:28

DS1 is feeling much better this evening and has managed to eat something. Smile

He fell over a week ago on a pub crawl and grazed his knee. He did cover it with a plaster but the plaster fell off when he was asleep and a bit of fluff from his pyjamas got into the scab as it formed. I promise there is a point to this anecdote...

TheThirdOfHerName · 09/10/2018 20:30

DH and I received the following by WhatsApp...

TheThirdOfHerName · 09/10/2018 20:34

DH & I (who are both medically trained) have never heard of anyone getting fabric fibres in their bloodstream from a superficial abrasion and all we can see in this photo is a normal scab on a nicely healing graze.

We both replied "Put some savlon on it if you want to, but otherwise leave it alone"

At least his flatmates are looking out for him...

TheThirdOfHerName · 09/10/2018 20:39

Of course, it's only fair to warn him about the potential risks...

Class of '18 still nattering.
OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/10/2018 20:42

oh bless him! It looks like it's healing nicely to me too! (not medically trained)

That's great news catslife :)

oops flatmouse, that's a bit of a shock for you.

That's good Ursula, sounds like she's on the road to being better.

Hope all your DC's recover from illness/scabs/injuries /just general unwellness (that's obvs not a real word).

DS seems to be fine. He and his flat mates have discovered that 'the Asda' will deliver to halls for £2 and have done an online shop so they don't have to trawl to the supermarket. I think I might advise him to go to 'the Aldi' on the bus as he has a pass, it's just up the street and it will be much cheaper.

He's off on a field trip at the weekend with new hiking boots which I know for a fact he won't have broken in - I have supplied lots of blister plasters! I'm sure there will be a phone call before he goes because he'll have forgotten something for it. I won't be sending anything to him as I will be in Oslo!

littledrummergirl · 09/10/2018 22:45

Nettles, in trying to put our house back together I found these-
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_7?sprefix=Chair+c&crid=2QRO15IYRJUEA&k=chair+covers&tag=mumsnetforum-21
They have made a massive difference here without breaking the bank.

Nettleskeins · 10/10/2018 17:21

very quiet - hope everyone is alright today!

Drummer thank you for the tip about the covers, that would be a very good solution indeed. I could even make some to match the existing chair seats.

it has occurred to me that ds is still using his passport as his Id and will have failed to send off for his provisional licence because he couldn't cope with organising a photobooth or losing his passport for a week (cannot drink without it) I texted him to remind him about the deadline, and received a message saying, as I suspected would happen, couldn't possibly send it because it was an Abba Themed Night tomorrow and he needed it. I think he was too alarmed by the form filling. It may have to wait till he comes back next week - it is film week or something in London and he has tickets at the NFT.

third ouch, poor fellow Smile I've been warning ds about burns for ages, whatever you do, put it under cold running water for 20 mins, before going to A & E. but I hadn't thought about abrasions..and my cure for blisters is to send him to bed and hot bath and chicken soup so that isn't much use long distance

Petalflowers · 10/10/2018 17:23

Love the fluff monster.

Downey - hugs to,you.

Dc sounded down last night so,I asked him if he was occcur and wondered he was homesick. He didn’t say he was, but in a typical teenage, sort,of way avoided replying. Hoping it’s just tiredness from watching the boxing all night over the weekend. Dc is one of those people who needs his sleep. However, made me feel a little down myself, plus i’ve Come down with a sore throat and i’m Always a grumpy bear with sore throats.

UrsulaPandress · 10/10/2018 18:57

DD FaceTimed me whilst making her tea and said Mumm, You didn't send me with a

Potato Masher.

LoniceraJaponica · 10/10/2018 18:59

DD has been offered another job interview, and another job Grin

captainoftheshipwreck · 10/10/2018 19:11

Lonicera - that's good news Grin
Ursula - that isn't Shock

Knittinganewme · 10/10/2018 19:30

Great news Lonicera

Are you missing the mucking out very much Ursula?

Ds locked himself out yesterday. DS locked himself out the day before too. I have no sympathy, I sourced a key ring with a retractable cord, arranged its delivery and suggested he keep his keys fastened to his trousers at all times. At some point he'll work out what works for him but leaving your keys (and phone) in your room before setting out for lectures is not the way to go.

Today I had texts of woe, darkness and self loathing, seven hours silence and then a text asking how much rice is a portion. Part of me is wishing for a return to the days of the payphone where there was no chance of instant communication.

UrsulaPandress · 10/10/2018 19:42

I am missing the mucking out terribly knitting. I stay in bed till after 9am Shock. I find random horse owners to offload my veg peelings onto. He still whinnies at us. And to be honest he is not really being kept in the manner to which he had become accustomed.

I'm feeling a bit lacking in direction but we are away to see cranes next week so I can focus on that.

Sorry your DS is still downloading on you. My offer of a brew is still there. I can travel.

Nettleskeins · 10/10/2018 20:56

maybe reply with a Chinese Proverb knitting there must be plenty about rice

just had a loong talk with ds. Who rang me to tell me he had managed to buy no less than 19 washing pustules or whatever they are called for £3 and didnt I think that was a bargain. He had also bought 12 slices of turkey and 9 slices of ham and a large jar of mayonnaise, and wait for it, Lucozade, and "that should see him through till the weekend". I suggested he come home for the weekend.

Cranes in Holland? [wild guess from non nature person]

UrsulaPandress · 10/10/2018 21:00

Somerset levels. Fingers crossed.

HesMyLobster · 10/10/2018 21:31

GrinLove the fluff monster Third that's brilliant- how did he respond?

Congratulations on the fantastic job news Lonicera and Cats Smile

DD has handed in her first essay today and anxiously awaits seeing her tutor tomorrow for the verdict.
Other than that she's having a blast - student-DD is far more sociable than home-DD it seems!
Perhaps because she is finally with people she feels comfortable with after years of being a bit awkward and different.

Meanwhile I feel like I've become DD2's personal maid/chauffeur/chef/shopper! With just the 2 of us at home there's a very real danger that she'll end up a spoiled monster by the time she goes to university in 2 years time!
It started because I was so worried about her missing her sister but now I must find something else to occupy myself instead of lavishing every waking second on her! WinkGrin

HesMyLobster · 10/10/2018 21:35

Ursula that sounds like a splendid trip, I might have to investigate!

Knitting I know it's not much comfort but your DS probably is offloading on you because you're his "safe place". Like when kids first start primary school and they're angels all day for the teacher but then turn into demons when they get home!
I hope you're taking care of yourself and have somebody you can offload to? Thanks

LoniceraJaponica · 10/10/2018 21:40

How much free time do your DC have now that their courses are under way?

Four weeks in and DD's boyfriend seems to have loads of free time and very little self study.

Petalflowers · 10/10/2018 21:52

Buying a crane. The mind boggles. Can’t quite see how that will replace a horse.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/10/2018 22:35

Some Lonicera, but not loads and loads. I think dd is working quite steadily, but managing to go to somesocial stuff as well. But she's only in her first full week of lectures.

OP posts:
NoHaudinMaWheest · 11/10/2018 09:43

Dd has about 15 hrs contact a week but plenty of work to do outside that. She is managing to keep up in spite of having to rest quite a bit. She isn't socialising a lot but then she never does. She is managing some outside activities though.

Has anyone's dcs had a fire alarm at an awkward time yet? Dd had one last night which went off when she was getting ready for bed and completely undressed in the bathroom. It was a false alarm but she was very cold and quite upset by the time she got back in. And she had forgotten her key card in the hurry so had to be let back in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/10/2018 11:03

There was an advantage to going to uni in ye ancient olden days. I don't remember any fire drills then and the only fire we had was one I caused!

Your poor dd, it does sound awful. Dd has had a couple but both times she was up and could throw on her warm dressing gown.
