Maybe he's paying the friend to do the laundry Downey?

I've been sent a few pictures, including one of clouds asking me if it was going to rain. That made me giggle.

But you are the resident weather woman.

DD has cooked chicken and veg and gravy.

Downeyhouse · 30/09/2018 17:21

Oh had not thought of that Kitten.

Smile
OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/09/2018 17:23

That sounds nice! I'd like someone to cook for me tonight.
dd has her first formal dinner tonight. Exciting times. I hope it's nice food.

We’re almost a month in now. Cooked roast tonight. Times like this ds’s presence seems most missing. Our Sunday roast (or summer barbecue) was a time when we could guarantee to have a meal together.

Petalflowers · 30/09/2018 18:06

We’re towel-sharers as well. I guess growing up in a family with three other siblings, there wouldn’t have been enough room to have individual towels.

HeyBells · 30/09/2018 18:11

I haven't posted often, but having dropped DS off this weekend, I just wanted to say thank you to all you regular posters who have kept the thread going. FlowersCakeGinBrew

It is a comfort to read stories from others who are going through similar and get advice which I can pass on; "Mumsnet says" seems to be listened to more than "I think". I doubt I'll be getting much communication, so can imagine what is happening by proxy....

FantasyAndHope · 30/09/2018 18:16

Maybe he will realise soon knitting? Double lectures seems tough
I've skim read so apologises if I've missed anything
Hope she settles soon OYBK
Hope drop off went ok bells

Dd is really hoping she can switch to PPE, told her she should have done this sooner! But she didn't listen to her old nagging mum Hmm do they ever?

Some good news she has a possibility of a room swap so I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that she can

HeyBells · 30/09/2018 18:26

Sounds hopeful Fantasy, she deserves a break

flatmouse · 30/09/2018 18:38

fantasy fingers crossed for your DD.
Had a FaceTime with DS today which was lovely. Obviously getting on well with flat and course mates and has drank too much of his budget (although I get impression apart from one overindulgence, he's been relatively sensible).
He is enjoying his course (only one week in)and was even doing homework when we rang.
Joined rugby team, and is deciding which gym to join. Has managed washing (although struggling to get change), and is going to find a barber in the morning !
Lovely to catch up, felt a little teary after I said goodbye. Pleased he's enjoying himself. He sent a pic of his homemade bolognaise tonight (with massive chunks of carrot!)

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/09/2018 18:41

I'm glad everyone's drop offs have gone well.
I was thinking of you travelling by train yesterday kitten. It sounds like a more successful journey than my last train journey (you made it to your destination) even if it did take a long time. I'm glad your DD seems to be settling in.

I dropped DD off today. I anticipated a full to bursting car, but no, there was loads of space. She's in a third floor flat, so at least she'll be forced into some exercise even if it is only climbing the stairs to get home. I took her to do food shopping and as soon as we got back I was sent home by DD and a new, very confident, flatmate.
DD is planning on joining Quidditch too, sorry I can't remember who mentioned it.
I have requested messages so we know she's still alive, and she had promised a weekly text to tell me she's not dead Hmm.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/09/2018 18:44

Fingers crossed Fantasy. It really is time that something good happens for your DD after all she has been through this year.

raspberryrippleicecream · 30/09/2018 19:43

That's about all I get MsAD. Glad drop off went OK.

We introuduced individually coloured towels for each person a few years ago, specifically to stop DD having all the towels in her room in a wet heap. They had 2 each.

I was very smug DS1's first year that he was on the ground floor. This year we've moved DD into a third floor flat and DS 1 into a 3rd or 4th floor, not sure but there were 54 very steep steps.

Knittinganewme · 30/09/2018 19:51

I suggested to DS that he should wash his towels unless he'd already done so, told him where the spare set had been on day one. The hunted look on his face told me that he has both sets in use. Again, this is not my problem. When they are all smelly this will also not be my problem.

DS is another that keeps his towels in a wet heap. I've spent years fetching him to the bathroom to pick them up off the floor and hang them up. This is where he gets to find out why it is that I have been so against the wet heap.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/09/2018 19:52

Sunday roast here too and I was thinking the same petals, no matter how busy it was the night of being together. We are having dinner in front of the tv to distract but she is dhs grand prix partner, so he's feeling it too a bit.

It's odd, because she did often go away for a few nights, sometimes longer, so it's not as though we aren't used to this.

DD2 is going back tonight after spending the weekend here for her brother's birthday. Mince and baked potatoes for dinner and she is taking leftovers back with her for dinner tomorrow.

Laundry not proving to be a problem as the laundry is opposite her flat - means she can do laundry in her pyjamas.

So far so good with the course.

FantasyAndHope · 30/09/2018 20:05

Thanks all
It seems she has a busy day
She just hopes she can switch
She's just rang to say she's watching the X factor in the common room

UrsulaPandress · 30/09/2018 20:10

When DD moved away I found 15 towels in her room.

I had resorted to using a beach towel that was my mums. (She died in 2002). Even that ended up in her room.

Shameless.

Mistigri · 30/09/2018 21:28

I think towel-hogging is hardwired into teenage DNA.

DD had a big wobble today when she went to the launderette and there were no machines free. She couldn't wait, because she had an obligatory theatre trip this afternoon. And she has a pile of work to do for Tuesday morning, and 9 hours of class tomorrow!

HesMyLobster · 01/10/2018 02:11

I've just been woken up by DD phoning me "to check her phone" because she didn't think it was working properly. Confused
Turns out it's working just fine! Told her to maybe try her sister, or the speaking clock (does that still exist?!) or wait until morning! Was nice to hear her voice though Blush

We've had such a lovely weekend dropping off.
Injured DH came along and despite him being useless at the packing/unpacking bit I'm glad he came because he'd surprise-booked the 2 of us into a super fancy hotel for Saturday night (instead of the premier inn I was expecting!)

We took her out for a lovely dinner Saturday night, and brunch on Sunday.

DD2 stayed the night in DD1's room - which was lovely for them both as they miss each other horribly, and also because DD moved in a day early - the rest of the freshers didn't arrive into Sunday so she'd have been all alone in her staircase/corridor.

We got a tour of the college and tea and cake and welcome speech in the Master's garden this afternoon then left her to it.

Her room is brilliant, way beyond expectations so she was utterly thrilled with it.
She's met the "friends" she made on the group chat and has been talking to for months, her subject team won the quiz and she's even been out clubbing tonight! (Hence the 2am phone call!)

I was extremely brave and didn't cry until we got to the car - exactly like I did on her first day at school!

HesMyLobster · 01/10/2018 02:27

Third absolutely love the awards!
I might have to steal that idea Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/10/2018 08:05

Lobster how lovely :) I'm so pleased that it was such a lovely drop off and that your dh treated you like that. He must have been so worried when the accident happened that the surprise would be ruined.

dd had an unscheduled fire practice this morning. Worth reminding students that their key is an essential part of leave the room quickly kit. Happily she remembered hers.

She's still not met any of her kitchen sharers Hmm I've asked her to check the fridge to see if any more milk was in there but she was in a bit of tizz as she could hear a bedder (housekeeping) moving around so nearby and so she was panic getting dressed.

HesMyLobster · 01/10/2018 08:10

Ahh Kitten your DD seems to have settled really well too.
I'm determinedly resisting the urge to call DD to check she's up for her 8:30 am college registration appointment.
Usually I wouldn't worry as she's excellent at getting up, but usually she's in bed by 10pm, not making 2am phonecalls on the way back from the club. . . Confused

HesMyLobster · 01/10/2018 08:14

Imagine if she ends up with the whole kitchen to herself?! How fabulous!

DD is sharing one with approx 30 othersShock
Luckily they're fully catered so won't be using it for much!

She's delighted that she's only sharing a bathroom with 2 others instead of 9 like on interview week! And she has her own wash basin which I think makes a big difference.
