They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

Welcome Hobbitt.

China sounds amazing - what an opportunity.

Petal - not sure is we have young ones off to do an Apprenticeship away from home but please do share your and your dc experiences and journies with us. Does he need to achieve certain grades?

lashingsofgingerbeer · 30/07/2018 10:41

Back from hols, catching up on thread & trying to get washing done now rain back home!

Hobbit welcome. What a lot to contend with right now! Sending you Flowers & hugs.

Chocolate & Hobbit big believer in karma for bullies - usually takes time but does happen - always a sad reflection of deflecting their own jealousies & problems on DC they wish they could be! Knitting very sage advice.
Petal flowers degree apprenticeship for my DD too.
Blostma your post made me laugh out loud as so true Grin - do you think we'll all be like that at 80 after all this education stress?? For the record mine's a slice of carrot cake on the table outside the cafe if I get to 80!
Marmite in my experience pets always get sick at the weekend or just before important dates!

Has anyone else been thinking there's been a lot of Firsts being awarded to graduates this year?

NoHaudinMaWheest · 30/07/2018 10:49

lashings I am back from holidays/nephew's wedding with lots of washing and rain too.

hobbit it is tough when many things happen at once. Take care.

I am wondering how much to organise now before results. It seems a bit presumptuous but as dd's term starts on 10th September there is not a lot of time afterwards.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 30/07/2018 11:07

I have started a thread in Higher Education for those whose dcs have any kind of disability or additional need.
This is not because I haven't found this thread supportive and friendly but just because there are other things I need to talk about and I don't want to take over this thread.
I know there are others here whose dcs have additional needs/ disabilities, so it would be great to see you there. Smile

lashingsofgingerbeer · 30/07/2018 11:08

Welcome back NoHaudin Smile I'm procrastinating over washing & to do list, as have holiday jello brain Grin

Shockers · 30/07/2018 11:16

Hello! I’ve only just spotted this. I’m very nervous because I think that if DS doesn’t get into the uni he wants, he’ll use it as an excuse to stay here with his girlfriend. She is in upper sixth and will go next year, by which time his momentum will have disappeared.

Exams are his nemesis because he has ADHD, but he worked really hard for them.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 30/07/2018 11:24

I've posted on your thread NoHaudin.

GnomeDePlume · 30/07/2018 15:23

Flowers for everyone with bigger things to worry about alongside waiting for the day which must not be mentioned.

Knittinganewme · 30/07/2018 15:50

We are managing to ignore results day because the Big Day this month is the World of Warcraft expansion on August 14th. It's all about priorities (sigh)

chocolateworshipper · 30/07/2018 16:29

Welcome shockers

Petalflowers · 30/07/2018 18:01

For my sons higher apprentice, it’s unconditional, but he has to maintain his academic ability. I guess they mean not to switch off.

Shockers · 30/07/2018 18:27

Thank you chocolateSmile

TheThirdOfHerName · 30/07/2018 19:08

Hi Shockers
Does he have an insurance choice?

ShanghaiDiva · 31/07/2018 03:53

Marmite
Sounds like a fab opportunity for your daughter.
Welcome shockers.

PandaG · 31/07/2018 08:04

Welcome shockers. We are finally on holiday! First time since DS was 2 and DD a baby that we have been on holiday just the 4 of us! We have had hols every year with 3 other families, camped with our church, and other family friends, and had plenty of weeks by the sea staying with family, but not just our nuclear family. My kids don't really get on, or at least they snipe at each other all the time, so this is a real test. I'm hoping that DS leaving home will improve their relationship!!
However, they have been on pretty good form so far, so here's hoping!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/07/2018 08:26

Welcome Shockers. :)

Lovely to see you back NoHaudin.

Things are getting tetchy round our way. I don't think dd is enjoying her summer job and definitely isn't enjoying intensive driving lessons. Combined with anxiety about something that we don't talk about yet and me having a flare of a chronic health condition it's all a bit much.

I don't want to wish these two weeks away, I just want them to bring the results day forward!

lashingsofgingerbeer · 31/07/2018 08:31

Kitten nerves are certainly starting to jangle around here too. I do hope your chronic health flare up settles down. Think I'm just approaching it all ostrich style at the moment!

UrsulaPandress · 31/07/2018 08:46

La la la la la.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/07/2018 09:23

Thanks lashings.

So any suggestions please for ostrich style things to do given I can't do my normal coping style which is to sort all of the cupboards out, go for ridiculous long walks and bike rides and solve the worlds ills?

catslife · 31/07/2018 09:36

Driving lessons restarting today for dd after holiday break with driving instructor number 3!
I don't know if it will help you kitten but I am distracting myself by doing research on my family tree on-line. I have found some of them on old census records etc.

TheThirdOfHerName · 31/07/2018 10:24

DS1 is also having driving lessons. Test booked for mid-September. We don't have a manual car, so he can practise in my automatic but obviously it isn't the same.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/07/2018 10:25

That sounds interesting cats. Have you turned up anything yet?

Good luck to your dd :) dd took us out shopping at the weekend. She did a splendid job, but nearly lost it in the middle of a busy carpark when the first attempt wasn't quite right. So more parking needed.

If I were feeling brave she could drive us into a nearby city tomorrow, but I'm not so we will take the bus Wink Need some basic clothes shopping done.

What a joyful summer this is TheThird.
dds test is in two weeks. Gulp. She has driving lessons every week day between now and then. In for a penny....

I've just bundled DS into a Spanish man's car with 400€. He's off to do his padi training. I hope he comes back (and is happy)
He is refusing to talk about the issues he had last week. I think he is slightly embarrassed. It's almost as though he feels guilty enjoying himself whilst his GF isn't with him

UrsulaPandress · 31/07/2018 11:06

OK I've googled padi training. Without reading back, are you in the abroad derek?
