Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

She thinks she managed to figure out which question went with which recording, and to answer most of them

She showed common sense under very stressful circumstances, which is not easy. It sounds as though a lot of candidates didn't attempt the questions that were affected.

UrsulaPandress · 19/06/2018 23:41

Whilst dd was prom dress shopping she was served by a girl who was in the year above her at school. She was turned down for medicine last year so took a year out, travelled loads (as evidenced by her fab instagram apparently) and has now been accepted to do medicine starting in September.

I agree with drummer re showing a passion for vetmed. Very hard to get into without shit hot work experience.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/06/2018 00:57

Lonicera it must be difficult starting again with deciding what she wants to do. I did similar when I was in 6 th form, didn't get into medicine so decided on a gap year to decide what else to do (the plan was to reapply the following year but I didn't get the grades). I figured it out eventually, and so will your dd. There are loads of great courses out there, the trouble is finding one that suits her.

Downeyhouse · 20/06/2018 04:44

Lonicera our kids will prob working much longer then us - potentially into their 70s!

A year here or there with such a long career ahead is prob in the scale of things not a bad thing. Better to make the right choice than feel fed up in a job you hate for all those years.

My ds is hopefully off to Nottingham Uni - they might have met if her plans had not of changed!

LoniceraJaponica · 20/06/2018 07:43

Thank you all for your words of support.

It's final exam day here. DD has text books to return to school (yes, they actually get given some in 6th form), and her locker key to give back.

Good luck to everyone doing chemistry today.

Knittinganewme · 20/06/2018 08:03

I was just about to ask who had exams today - it's the chemists then. It was my degree subject so I am biased, I always liked subjects where there was a right answer and you could get full marks rather than spending an hour writing an essay that wasn't quite what they were looking for. You'll be joining us on the finisher's bench later LonericaJaponica? It's a good place to be.

Thank you all for the feedback on cars for new drivers, I've slept on it and I was being unreasonable, as was family member, because there is no One True Way, just what works best for each family. I don't like being told what I should do and I think that was what put my back up.

Good luck to all the chemists :)

DD said she felt the maths paper yesterday would have been a difficult one for students who weren't taking FM which doesn't seem fair.

Final chemistry paper today then it's 'only' lots of maths papers. Next Monday it's over.

flatmouse · 20/06/2018 09:14

Last cooked breakfast! So pleased it's over after today. DS has plans to go out tonight - i guess the first of many :) Good luck to all the chemists today, and all the mathematicians who have many more!
DD got Y10 mocks at the moment. She had pain au chocolat for breakfast.... but i forgot to make her lunch! (bad mother!!). I've put money on her thumb though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/06/2018 11:11

Well done flatmouse, you both survived!

We are in go gentle mode today. No revising, no stressing allowed, just sleep and favourite foods.

OP posts:
flatmouse · 20/06/2018 11:31

Feedback was it was harder than the other two (so from him it was 3 the hardest then 1, with 2 the easiest), but he did answer every question :)

Phew! Budge up on the finish bench everyone, and i've put a bottle of Hendricks aside for those who have a while left!

UrsulaPandress · 20/06/2018 11:31

DD has ridden, is off to have her nails done, she is working at teatime then we are going to binge watch Handmaids Tale. With gin.

Smile
PostNotInHaste · 20/06/2018 11:35

LonericaJaponica sympathies on last minute change but agree better now than later. DD is a year older than the DC on here and has kind of had two years out. Although there have been some difficult times she has definitely benefited from this time and she has very much worked through her various options before now hopefully having decided something kind of related to where she was at previously but different in a good way. As long as she sticks it I think it will turn out to be a much better choice for her.

I think whilst they are in the school system there is so much pressure about what comes next and those who are likely to get the grades sometimes end up being swept along a bit in the whole timetable of sixth form. I’ve seen a few go off this year who either weren’t sure what to do or weren’t quite ready to leave Home and it has been quite hard going in a few cases. A year to catch breath can be really positive, they still seem to change a lot in a year at this age.

Hope those of you still going are ok, very tough at this stage of the game but so nearly there Brew

starfleet · 20/06/2018 11:52

Chemistry 3 done. DS said there was a 6 marker that he wasn't sure about but it's done and there isn't anything he can do now but wait.

Just 2 left and he's finished, only GS so not much in the way of revision for them.

derekthe1adyhamster · 20/06/2018 11:59

Chemistry wasn't rubbish but not great either! Wtf does that mean Grin

starfleet · 20/06/2018 12:20

Smile derek that's the kind of response I would usually get from DS

marmiteloversunite · 20/06/2018 13:11

Well done to all of the Chemists for today.

I actually slept last night and we have spent the whole morning sorting out DD's bedroom. All done now. Two rubbish bags, 3 recycling, 5 charity shop bags and a bag of notes to keep just in case. Good job done and she can relax now. (So can I !)

LoniceraJaponica · 20/06/2018 13:23

Phew! Budge up on the finisher's bench please. I'll bring the gin/wine/tea.

DD said that chemistry was OK, not great, but OK. She said it was harder than papers 1 and 2. The multiple choice wasn't as hard as she thought it might be.

Packing for her post 16 holiday to Lanzarote is now done, and she is asleep.

Good luck to anyone who still has exams. Is it just maths now?

LizzieB72 · 20/06/2018 13:41

Feedback about the chemistry this morning - 'Worst exam I have ever done'

Just maths to go on Friday morning, praying that it goes in his favour...

LoniceraJaponica · 20/06/2018 13:54

Which boards did everyone's DC sit for chemistry? DD did AQA.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 20/06/2018 13:55

Marmite I came home yesterday & DD had cleaned out her bedroom & cleaned the bathroom too - I nearly passed out with the shock of how different her bedroom looked & the fact she'd done it without me asking! nagging Think I'm liking the exams being over even more now! It obviously takes a while for the brain to switch off the adrenaline & work mode button! Grin She is out all today with her friends having fun to make up for yesterday now!

Lonicera your DD will find her way, rest assured. Better she makes the right decision now & as has been said before, they will be a long time working! Some of DD1's friends took a year out and all have grown and matured from it and not been disadvantaged at all, plus it took all the guess work out of grades for those applying later, lessening a lot of the stressful applications.

Best of luck to those DC still going & for the chemistry & maths ones today. Being on the 'other side' is bloody marvellous - we'll restock the bar, don't worry! GinWine

starfleet · 20/06/2018 14:23

AQA

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/06/2018 14:44

I'm glad lashings, cos Gin would be welcome!

I'm trying not to think about tomorrow too much and focus on work. I've rejigged things so I can go out holiday clothes shopping while she sits her STEP. Trying to find a bikini that actually fits will keep me occupied for a bit.

marmiteloversunite · 20/06/2018 14:46

OYBBK I would find that as stressful as a STEP exam!!Grin
