Icouldbeknitting DS1 also has a lot of Lego to sort. Within the Lego are the pieces for Hogwarts, which he is hoping to sell if he can find them all.

ifancyagreencard · 07/06/2018 10:28

Late to the party but just found this thread! DD sat Russian History yesterday. She panicked Sad

Am gutted for her - she hasn't twatted about and applied herself really well revision-wise for months (unlike bloody GCSEs). But she had a total wobble about 30 mins in. Probably not a car crash, she thinks, but is pissed off with herself as the paper was quite good.

Mind you, if there's a round on Russia at a pub quiz. you'll bloody well want me on your team . . .

Othello and Dr Faustus today. Fingers crossed she'll be more "in the zone"

Much Gin to everyone on the thread

TheThirdOfHerName · 07/06/2018 10:40

DS1 has an unconditional offer from his insurance choice. He is worried that if he gets CCU (a possibility) then they won't take him.

The weak A-level subject is not the degree subject he's applied to study; he should get a C or even a B in that.

UrsulaPandress · 07/06/2018 11:13

Thanks for the heads up on the email from insurance. That's going to be a fun evening.

I'll have to stockpile Gin

derekthe1adyhamster · 07/06/2018 11:40

Biology was bad 😰 but on a positive note his friend who has an offer at Cambridge to do biochemistry also thought it a shocker...

UrsulaPandress · 07/06/2018 12:16

One of dds friends was reduced to tears by Biology. She's an A* student

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2018 12:31

oh no Derek and greencard :( I really hope they haven't been as bad as they feared.

Nettleskeins · 07/06/2018 12:39

ds1 went to a production of Dr Faustus where Kit Harrington threw up all over the stage (on purpose) and had no clothes on.

My nails are dug into my palms till ds is in the exam hall. I keep imagine him running off or accidentally taking his phone in..[question is it worse to disqualify yourself or be disqualified]

knitting love the plan.
third they want his history result if he is doing history. That is what matters. History A level is difficult.

HesMyLobster · 07/06/2018 12:44

Greencard excellent idea - we should set up a pub quiz team, you can be the Russia specialist, I can take care of America (1965-1975) - who else wants to join?! Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 07/06/2018 12:52

What exam boards have they sat for biology? DD sat Edexcel and said it was OK.

flatmouse · 07/06/2018 12:52

@Fantasy hope your dd is Ok. @Nettles - i need a plan B in mind too - any suggestions - i really don't know where to start!

Slightly jealous of all your flashcard involvement. DS doesn't do flashcards, and unlike GCSE's, I'm not involved! He did do a past paper (psychology) on Sunday and then sat and explained all his answers to me. I appreciated that ! Didn't have a clue if he was right or wrong, but was very impressed and was able to give a few pointers to improve.

MrSlant · 07/06/2018 12:53

Oh no, I wonder if DS1 sat the same biology, he was his usual sanguine self and said it 'went ok I suppose, good' but he's said that about every exam he's sat (apart from his bio prac where he had an ASD meltdown and it went a bit wrong) and had every grade under the sun so who knows.

We are on our way back from holiday for results day (doesn't matter how much you tell my parents you can't be away a certain week they will book the holiday anyway and you Don't Say No to them) and I'm really wibbling about it. Think DS1 will fly back early on his own to be in school with his friends but I want to be there as I fear clearing/Bangor are going to need a phone call. I need to find out how all that works. In my heart of hearts I don't think he's going to get his first choice and neither does he, booking is open for accommodation and he's done nothing about it. Right not going to think about that where's DS2 he is in a VERY silly mood now his final maths exam is done, I fear I'm going to be living with a clown for the next 12 weeks Grin

HesMyLobster · 07/06/2018 12:53

From my extensive stalking reading of the yr13 thread last year, I think results day goes something like:

From midnight onwards: possible congratulatory email from firm. Not always though, and as Ursula said, some send them to insurance holders too so could be misleading.

From 6am (ish) onwards: track updates, changing conditional offers to unconditional (if you get the grades, not sure what it says if you don't)
Not all unis will have updated though and there are always some glitches, so still not completely reliable.
However a fair few DC will know by this point if they've got in to firm or insurance.

From 9am(ish): schools/6th forms/colleges open so actual results can be collected and we will all finallly know for sure and can stop speculating.

I think it's going to be the longest morning in history and we'll all be either on the gin or champagne by breakfast time!

starfleet · 07/06/2018 12:53

We too have lots of Lego - although sorting it would send DS's eyes rolling to the back of his head. We have about 10 huge plastic boxes full of the stuff and he won't let me sell/get rid of it.

Biology....said that he wasn't sure.....he's either done OK or spectacularly badly. Apparently it was an odd paper.

I have my fingers in my ears and am not listening to anything about results day. Anxiety will have worn me down to a gibbering wreck by then.

Gretol · 07/06/2018 12:57

DD is resitting a year, so is strictly year 13 but is only taking one A level this year (illness, glandular fever). She is repeating year 13 with two different subjects. She dropped Biology and I am relieved having heard how hard it was Shock

TheThirdOfHerName · 07/06/2018 13:32

Thanks Nettleskeins it is History he wants to do (well-remembered) and his grades in History and Politics are usually around the B/C borderline.

He will be gutted if his English Lit grade prevents him from being able to study History.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2018 13:43

I just read that dds firm send out their welcome letters by post rather than email to arrive the day after results day. Shock track had better bloody well work....

OP posts:
MrSlant · 07/06/2018 13:49

Oh man OYBBK that would just be the hardest 24 hours ever.

That's a useful timeline Lobster, trying to surreptitiously check the UCAS videos about what to do if you don't get the grades without DS1 seeing. Also now looking at Ferry bookings that get me and the brothers back in time for results day too. Can't not be here if he hasn't quite got what he needs, he'll get flustered and his father is no bloody use at all. (If it isn't obvious we aren't together anymore Grin)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2018 14:16

I know. Worst case scenario is that she finds out at midnight that she misses her STEP requirement, then has to wait until the morning to see if her original college still decides to take her on track.

If they haven't decided or if she gets pooled to another college then it will be the friday or possibly the monday before she finds out if she was successful. Half the maths offer holders don't make their step offer and most of those are not successful in getting their place.

I've given myself stomachache thinking about it this lunchtime.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 07/06/2018 14:21

DD back & said Biology was 'not too bad' & doesn't want to say anymore or jinx it! She did Edexcel - what board were the other Biologers Derek, Ursula & Mr Slant? DD is now flaked out on her bed with her nose in her Geography notes as that's tomorrow afternoon & she's worried about it. It's been the longest week ever!

Gretol · 07/06/2018 14:23

It was OCR at dds school (biology)

starfleet · 07/06/2018 14:31

AQA Biology at DS's school

UrsulaPandress · 07/06/2018 14:37

Is there no parity across the boards?

A friend of DD's is at the local sixth form college - she did History yesterday for the same exam board as DD but her paper was the Tudors. but a different aspect of the Tudors than the one DD is doing next week.

It really confuses and worries them when they think they may have revised for the wrong paper.

One boy at DD's school discovered he had the wrong exam on his timetable, or rather the group chat discovered it for him!

catslife · 07/06/2018 14:40

dd arrived back and we have all had lunch.
Apparently Creative writing was "alright".
The college had 3 A level exams running in the hall at the same time - Creative writing, biology and use of maths.
hope afternoon exams are all OK.
Welcome to new posters.
Results day for dd will just be go into college to get results and come back home with possibly meet up with friends added as she isn't applying to uni.

Nettleskeins · 07/06/2018 16:08

I am so bad at Maths. I just tried to work out when ds1's exam ended if it lasted 2 hours and 50 mins and he was getting extra time, AND it started at 1.15.

Dd had to do it for me in the end as I was counting on my fingers. All I wanted to know was when most people finished.

Does anyone have an feedback on ENGLISH LIT Edexcel then????? Burning question????
