No. For DD it's Liverpool and John Moores.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2018 18:53

Once dd gets all of her mock results back I think she will press the button. I think she will wait until parents evening. She's on target so far for her choices.

EPQ is all printed and ready to hand in :) Only one more bit of coursework after that.

Leicester
Northampton

I think this is what DS1 needs to do:

  1. Finish coursework (this week 🤨 )
  2. Apply for university accommodation
  3. Apply for student finance (by end of May)
  4. Try to learn A-level course content

Have I forgotten anything?

UrsulaPandress · 11/03/2018 19:25

Coursework not finished here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2018 19:57

5)find something to do over the summer?

HesMyLobster · 11/03/2018 20:29

Oh Kitten yay to EPQ being finished! I remember that moment well from last year.

Well done also to the button pushers! We found it an exciting but terrifying moment.

Littledrummergirl · 11/03/2018 20:37

Derek, I'm sorry to hear the rollercoaster goes on for you. Glad ds is feeling more positive though.
With my ex (different non unionised but better company)union rep head on, if you need some advice then feel free to pm me.
Get dh to request training records to make sure his training on fire exits is up to date. Also a copy of the disciplinary process and make sure he takes someone into the meeting with him. He can adjurn at any point he needs to gather his thoughts.

DD's To Do List:

  1. Subject 1 - do last assignment of the last unit and then that course is finished
  2. Subject 2 - do the last 3 assignments of the last unit and then that course is finished
  3. Subject 3 - do the last 2 assignments of the last unit and then that course is finished
  4. Pass theory test
  5. Pass practical test
  6. Party, sleep, go to festivals, keep up the part time job
TheSecondOfHerName · 11/03/2018 21:10

The summer is a whole separate to-do list, which includes learning to drive (intensively?).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2018 21:22

It's ace Lobster! I had such reservations about her doing it on top of everything else. so it's a relief that it's been done.

Pass driving test is high on dds summer list. Along with earn money and have some fun. Her first choice accommodation doesn't open until after a level results.

Second ds still doing coursework too..[sigh] he had to redo it, I was so pleased when I thought it was handed in and finished with.
And this week he says he is in a music festival (no not a fun one, a schooly one) despite failing to sing at the all important interview at Cardiff; I told him he should be conserving his vocal chords.

We've all had a chinese takeaway, ds then spoilt it by saying he definitely wasn't attending his siblings 16th birthday treat next week because he "needed to work (academic work)". I kicked dd and told her not to go on about it and he would probably come, but no, she insisted on demanding that he attend, which of course made him refuse still more. All a bit ridiculous considering he never does any work in the first place! I played a bit of Puccini on the piano very badly, and he said, ooh that's Helena Bonham Carter (meaning Room with a View meaning the theme tune) I said who is Puccini, he said an operatist..Confused

Ds2 and I have been watching Call the Midwife. Ds2 was so keen NOT to watch it, he asked to watch Crufts, despite hating dogs. I think he hoped that if he moved me onto Crufts (I like Dogs) he could then switch it to Top Gear.

Icouldbeknitting · 11/03/2018 22:16

Accommodation is open now for DS's first choice. I suggested he hit the button to firm it but it's a big decision that needs a third opinion apparently.

I forgot to say that passing the driving theory test was last week's big news. Knowing what I know now I would have left driving lessons well alone until he'd got his theory and then gone for an intensive course. I've spent a ridiculous amount on driving lessons. I know we're no longer in the days where 15 lessons was the usual number but it seems to have gone on forever.

FantasyAndHope
Goldsmiths was my daughter's insurance choice for English Lit. She loved the course and had heard a few of the lecturers at literature festivals and thought they were great. She had a three B offer but they did at some point change that to be unconditional if she firmed them. She ended up at St Andrews but would have been more than happy at Goldsmiths.

FantasyAndHope · 12/03/2018 12:10

Coursework, history it completely needed re writing and she made a start this weekend is going to check the new structure before continuing that’s due for next week
English first draft of coursework 2 has been done waiting for feedback before embarking on the final draft

Goldsmiths has been rang they need a letter from school and doctor to say about her health in case she misses the grades
I rang the doctor and they said it was £35 for a doctors letter Hmm apparently it’s clerical fees
Offer is 3 B’s she loved the course there

UrsulaPandress · 12/03/2018 12:11

Sooooo - how long after firming choices did your DC receive an email from the first choice confirming receipt etc?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2018 12:44

Are they supposed to have drafts marked for coursework? I'm fairly sure that dd isn't allowed to hand drafts in for feedback.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 12/03/2018 12:45

I am sure DD's coursework has been closely scrutinised by her teachers. I could be wrong though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2018 13:04

Maybe it differs from subject to subject.

Nettleskeins · 12/03/2018 13:26

They are not allowed to make detailed comments on ds's coursework, but they are allowed to say it is really bad and could he re-do it and ask him to look at certain learning objectives next time, ie structure evidence. I think the problem with a very large class (ds has 25 in his class) they are not able to prepare them for the issues that will come up with the coursework before they write it, only after they have seen what the cohort is producing. So most of the class has not understood what is asked of them, so they are giving general guidance (all the essays have different titles) looking at the marking criteria. I don't quite see how coursework could be produced without some sort of preparation and guidance from a genuine teacher. Some pupils are so far off understanding what is expected that they are learning nothing if there is NO guidance. But as you say Kitten teachers are not allowed to give detailed rewrites or interventions regarding the argument or the evidence used, only to point out that it is seriously dysfunctional.

Nettleskeins · 12/03/2018 13:30

off to school meeting now, luckily not about coursework.

Just discovered that the Ox Brookes music course is being taught seven miles from the main campus. So that is a serious flaw! They are relocating the engineering to the original arts campus, and possibly engineering has more clout than music as they rebuild.

flatmouse · 12/03/2018 13:35

@UrsulaPandress DS never got confirmation of firm choice from uni. Had sorry you don't want to come from rejected uni's. Have got him to recheck UCAS a few times to confirm all is ok, and he was able to do accommodation request at firm choice uni, so they must agree he put them as firm choice!
Extra revision lessons ramping up at college as are tests and homework. DS is working but is making life as hard for himself as possible it seems!

Bekabeech · 12/03/2018 13:48

Fantasy if you are friendly with your GP it might be worth talking to them DD received a letter which the GP waived fees for once. Overall £35 is nothing with the cost of a degree. (My Mother was extremely hard up but would have found it somehow.)

FantasyAndHope · 12/03/2018 18:10

kitten
It’s general feedback
For her history there was just a comment it was diabolical and descriptive and if she submitted that it would be a fail but no suggestions on how to change or anything that help couldn’t be given

madnskint · 12/03/2018 19:51

DD is sick with Glandular fever which had enlarged her spleen and given her hepatitis. She is really quite poorly but is worrying about revising for her exams etc as she is so so tired.
