Carrying on from previous thread

I'm so rubbish with thread titles. Anyway...

This time last year there was lots of chat about tests/exams/mocks at this point. Are there fewer of them, or is everyone more chilled about them?

*MsAwesomeDragon" That is suitably awesome indeed. Will she wait until she's had all her offers, just so she knows the final position? I am still selling DS on the remaining interview for his second choice. I'd like him to make an informed choice after going on the offer holder's day because I'm not convinced about his decision making process. I tell myself that either place would be good for him but I would like him to show some rational process other than going with his gut.

Icouldbeknitting · 17/11/2017 18:22

Bold fail yet again. I think I may need new glasses.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/11/2017 18:29

knitting she's got offers from everywhere now. She had it narrowed down to 2 that she would really like to go to, then this unconditional offer with financial incentives made that decision easier. She's pretty much made her decision now, so she might just take a few days/weeks to sleep on it. She's a very happy person tonight.

Icouldbeknitting · 17/11/2017 18:37

MsAD yes, I bet you're a happy person tonight too!

raspberryrippleicecream · 17/11/2017 21:07

Brilliant news MsAD. That's amazing.

Thank you for all the concern over DD. She isn't in a great place just now for a few reasons. Next week is a difficult week, so am.leaving big discussions until after then.

She's always been really organised so no PS still is a huge red flag and she admitted last week that she isn't sure she wants to go next year. Plan would be to apply next year.

Anyway, good news is she's been told to apply for her driving test, on the basis that she will be ready for it by the end of the current wait time.

And sorry for the triple post!

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/11/2017 21:20

raspberry sometimes a year or two out to sort out what you actually want to do is a positive thing. It was for me, and I have quite a few friends who say the same thing. I hope your difficult week isn't too difficult. Flowers

Littledrummergirl · 17/11/2017 22:01

MeaDS that's brilliant. Raspberry I'm sure that whatever your dd decides to do will work for her. She has great support in you. It's good news about the driving.

Ds1 has had his first interview date come through this evening. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2017 23:28

Well done to your ds LittleDrummer :) that must be good for him to hear.

Raspberry, there’s still plenty of time yet if she needs some breathing space. Flowers for the difficult week coming up.

MrsAD that’s bloody brilliant - the absolute dream! Huge well done to your DD, she must be over the moon (you too!) what a wonderful position to be in.

Raspberry an extra year sounds like a good plan. I’m thinking of encouraging DD2 to do the same when it’s her turn - taking a year out and then applying when she has her results. I think it will be far less stressful.
Good news on the driving test. Hope the difficult week goes as well as it possibly can.

Brilliant news on the interview Littledrummer, well Done your DS.

chocolateworshipper · 19/11/2017 21:09

Congratulations on all the good news.

raspberry - I've been through a lot with my DD - she's suffered extremely badly with anxiety, and I've learned that it's much more important to think about what keeps her safe and what makes her happy, rather than try and compare what she's achieving to anyone else. She's doing well at college, and there's plenty of time to think about next steps. There's lots of advantages about taking a year out before applying to university (less pressure applying when you have your grades). There are also lots of other alternatives to university - there are higher level apprenticeships and even degree apprenticeships now (you get a degree with none of the debt!). Lots of love and best wishes to her and to you. One thing I do know - if you're supporting a troubled DC, you need to take care of yourself xx

UrsulaPandress · 22/11/2017 09:09

DD's Personal Statement finally completed and honed down to the correct length. That's been a long haul.

She was thinking of submitting it today but she has a modelling assignment this afternoon so has to do her hair and make up. 🤔😳😩

Icouldbeknitting · 22/11/2017 09:39

Ursula that shows that she can prioritise. The hair and makeup has to be done by today's deadline, the PS can go in tomorrow. It's "urgent and important" vs "important".

UrsulaPandress · 22/11/2017 10:48

Of course! And she gets paid for the modelling.

chocolateworshipper · 23/11/2017 14:02

OK, need to have a moan I'm afraid. DD came home early, in tears because one of her teachers accused her of plagiarising because he thought it was too good (for a subject she got a Distinction Star in last year). He then cuts and pastes every sentence from her document into Google to see if he can prove it. Funny enough - he can't. One of his comments was that her punctuation was too good. This is a student who got an A in English Language GCSE. He does this IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS. She's only had him for a few lessons this term, so quite why he thinks he is an expert on her abilities is beyond me (obviously he can see on the system that she got a D* last year) Angry

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2017 15:30

Chocolate that’s really horrible of him. Even if he thought it might be true, he should have been far far more discrete about it. Really unprofesssional and anyway there is plagarism detection software that colleges would actually use I’m sure if they suspected such a thing.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 23/11/2017 15:32

That is dreadful! How on earth can punctuation be 'too good'? What subject?

Icouldbeknitting · 23/11/2017 16:10

Statements like those shouldn't be flung around without proof. I would complain and expect a public apology seeing as the accusation was public.

chocolateworshipper · 23/11/2017 16:28

Thank you for the support. It's for Business - so a subject where punctuation is important (I'm only guessing that it may be less so in some subjects). I am waiting for a call back from the college. She's flagged on the system as being a very vulnerable child (all staff can see it), which makes it even more outrageous.

HesMyLobster · 23/11/2017 16:49

Oh Chocolate how horrible for your DD. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable of the teacher.
Does she have a form tutor/year Head or similar that you can contact?

inchyrablue · 23/11/2017 16:50

Chocolate I am absolutely fuming on your behalf. That is an absolute disgrace. At the very least she deserves a public apology.

chocolateworshipper · 23/11/2017 17:01

She is now getting calls / messages from other students saying "I hear you got caught plagiarising" Angry Angry

Still waiting for a call back from the college. The longer they take to call me back, the more I am armed with phrases like "Failed in your duty of care" and "safeguarding risk"

lashingsofgingerbeer · 23/11/2017 23:12

Chocolate totally unacceptable & a big failure of care for a very vulnerable child - I'd definitely be wanting some answers from the school to explain their failure in the handling of the situation!
