Christmas half term - Year 13 (another original thread title!)

Carrying on from previous thread

I'm so rubbish with thread titles. Anyway...

This time last year there was lots of chat about tests/exams/mocks at this point. Are there fewer of them, or is everyone more chilled about them?

Chocolate that’s awful. I’d expect some sort of retraction in front of the class to try to dispel the rumours. Kick arse!

starfleet · 24/11/2017 09:10

What an awful thing to happen to your DD Chocolate and totally unacceptable from the teacher involved.

The following lyrics are very appropriate in this case - "put on your sh&t kickers and kick some sh&t"!

I hope you get things sorted.

HesMyLobster · 24/11/2017 12:30

Have you had any response from the school yet Chocolate?
I can't stop thinking about your poor DD.

chocolateworshipper · 24/11/2017 17:08

Thank you so much everyone for the support. I had a long and very good email late last night from the Head of Department, apologised that he couldn't reply earlier as he'd been out on a course, said what had happened was unacceptable and he would deal with the member of staff. HoD also spoke to DD today, apologised, told her that she was to go straight to him with any problems, even if he was in a meeting he would always come out for her. He explained the proper process if plagiarism is suspected - which clearly does not include telling the whole class. He also told DD that he is 100% sure that she didn't plagiarise. The member of staff in question was not in college today. Will wait and see what happens when the teacher is back in next week.

HesMyLobster · 24/11/2017 17:53

Oh fantastic!
It's still rubbish that your DD had to go through such an awful experience, but I'm so glad to see HoD is taking it seriously and taking appropriate action.
How is your DD feeling about it now?

Icouldbeknitting · 24/11/2017 17:54

Chocolate that looks to be a promising start to a full and public apology.

Some of you already know that I'm in the middle of a long running domestic crisis that started in September with my mum being admitted to hospital (she went home this week) and then went down hill from there. I don't want to talk about it in this thread but the result is that I have done no Christmas shopping. I think we're still going with the tree and present scenario although I did suggest sitting on a beach and doing something totally different. Brainstorming session please - what are you buying your DS for Christmas? (yes, I've asked him and there's nothing in the world that he wants. I know how he feels) Bonus points for something fun rather than sensible.

UrsulaPandress · 24/11/2017 18:24

I am probably weird that I don't start shopping until December. No idea what to get DD so can be no help at all with boys.

inchyrablue · 24/11/2017 18:36

Chocolate that sounds like a perfect response. I hope it follows though. That alone will do wonders for her self esteem.

We have a number of family birthdays in late November, so Christmas has to wait till I get those out of the way. I did start suggesting to them all that if they want anything other than some socks and PJs they need to start dropping hints, or sending me a proper list. Ideally with links...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2017 19:39

I’ll pm you my ideas knitting! but later, dd is sat next to me!

OP posts:
Littledrummergirl · 24/11/2017 19:59

Chocolate I'm so sorry to hear that. Glad the school are taking it very seriously though. That's horrific.
Knitting, you're not alone. We have a few bits for Dd and I'm up to my eyes making mil Christmas gift. Ds1 very helpfully told us he doesn't want a big present-he would rather we spent a bit more on his siblings. I'm thinking a stethoscope might work as a gift for him. Clothes and maybe some Lego for fun. A couple of dvds and a ton of chocolate. Grin
Any other suggestions will happily be considered. Wine

starfleet · 24/11/2017 21:39

I've been looking at custom Vans for DS Knitting, you can build up from type of fabric, laces, base colour etc etc. It's not silly money either. Books
and a vintage camera "you know the ones where you put real film in and wind it on"...

On a more practical note DS finally submitted his UCAS form this afternoon.

TheDrsDocMartens · 24/11/2017 21:45

I’m struggling for dd1 too, 18th and Xmas presents 😭

She’s had all her offers now and picked a first choice and reserve 😲

lashingsofgingerbeer · 24/11/2017 22:10

Chocolate glad to hear the school are dealing with the serious errors on their part & do hope DD is ok. Knitting so sorry to hear about your Mum & hoping you can get some downtime for yourself somewhere Flowers. Not done any Xmas shopping yet & not received DD's list yet, despite several requests. Starfleet good news on DS PS.

ShanghaiDiva · 25/11/2017 00:37

Chocolate - glad you received a good response from school. What happened to your dd was completely unacceptable.
Knitting - I will be spending Christmas at the beach as we will be in Vietnam! Present ideas - Ds wants Bose headphones and chocolate.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2017 09:44

That’s good Chocolate. I’m glad they are sorting things, even though they can’t actually take the incident back. I hope your dd is feeling a bit better about it.

The custom vans are genius. I designed some for dd while she was sat next to me. I don’t think she was very impressed by my artistic skills Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2017 09:44

Starfleet - hooray for the ucas submission!

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2017 09:20

Anyone else not submitted yet? I think DD is planning on being the last one at school. She was waiting for her references to be written, or at least located on the system, plus she had a weird week with me being injured and unable to provide livery services, and discovering she may have been excluded from a girls' holiday after A levels. Latter on resolved thankfully.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2017 09:27

Tough week Ursula! I hope your injury is resolving.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2017 09:32

Well it's not.

I think I've torn the cartilage in my knee and I've just googled and it can take 3 months to heal. Whoopy doo.

Trouble is I can't get my wellies on.

Doomed I tell you.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2017 09:41

oh ouch :( that sounds really rubbish. You might need physio I guess.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2017 09:46

Physiology appts probably have a three month waiting list. 😄

UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2017 09:46

Bloody autocorrect

Icouldbeknitting · 26/11/2017 12:13

Nah, physio round here is faster than that but you won't know unless you go and get a referral. I put off having my knee looked at for three years and I wish I'd done it sooner because I came away with a sheet of exercises one of which I found that I could not do. I can do it now and it means that now I can walk down stairs that have no handrail with ease. I didn't know what I couldn't do until I tried to do it and I didn't know what difference being able to do it would make.

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/11/2017 21:41

I lost you again.

Chocolate that was a horrible incident for your dd. I'm glad the hod is taking it seriously, but it should never have happened in the first place. I hope your dd is ok.

I have no ideas at all for Christmas. Dd has been complaining that he room is cold, so she'll get some things like fluffy socks, an electric blanket, etc, but I can't think of much for her, and neither can she.

Dd has got a job, started this afternoon. Those of you who remember the McDonald's Saga last year will be surprised to hear that she is now working in .... McDonald's! Obviously she feels like the money is worth doing the job this year (and she's feeling more confident this year than she did last year)

chocolateworshipper · 26/11/2017 21:55

DD seems to be ok. I think the HoD handled it well and gave her a lot of reassurance. We'll see what happens when she has her next lesson with the offending (and offensive) teacher - but that's not until Thursday I think.

Ursula - ouch! I broke my ankle a few years ago and had to have it pinned, so I do sympathise

starfleet and msad - congratulations on the good news

I have finished my Christmas shopping after a few Black Friday deals. I'm lucky though - both DDs have wish lists on Amazon so it's fairly easy. Same with most of my nieces and nephews.
