new thread so we don't get lost. Well done to all our dc whether doing btech (or breach as autocorrect prefers to call it) or a levels. 1/6 of the way through this year. (blimey)

Dd has a histoy and politics trip to London next Tuesday.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/03/2017 09:12

For those worrying about school trips, please don't. Even people close to where it happened yesterday were ok. The odds of actually being affected, even if something happens are very small. Teach your kids the run advice, they are old enough.

Yesterdays events wouldn't put me off a trip to London or to the Houses of Parliament for either the family or dd. I think kitten that you are correct and our Y12 dcs are old enough to understand what to do.
Talking of MPs, DH went to visit our MP at a local surgery last week ( I would have gone too if not working but the letter that I wrote was handed in). She was very interested to find out that we have a registered first time voter.
We have had the parents evening at college and overall was very positive. Looks as if dd is on track for target grades etc. Not sure if I can fully reconcile their description of the well motivated hard working teenager at college with the one who barely leaves her room at home but guess that's teenagers for you!

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/03/2017 14:57

catslife I'm glad the feedback was so positive.

DS1 is actually quite worn out. I'm glad there's only a week to go before the end of term.

Icouldbeknitting · 23/03/2017 16:44

Two weeks to go here, I just trotted into the kitchen to check. Our parent's evening this time round was by invitation, it's not the sort of invitation you want to receive because it means that they have concerns. I have no concerns, they have no concerns so I can stay at home this time.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/03/2017 13:52

One week to go here before end of term.
Knitting - we have that type of parents' evening too. Ds moved schools for the IB and dh and I have taken a step back with regard to what's happening at school and ds has risen to the challenge of organising his time - both at school and for community and sport activities.
Just have his little sister, who regularly forgets homework, pe kit, test days etc, to organise now.

catslife · 24/03/2017 16:36

Two weeks of term left here as well knitting.
dds sixth form do the Parents Evenings the other way round. They only see parents in the first term if they have concerns, and all Y12 parents in March.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/03/2017 16:38

dd is worn out as well. I can't believe how much work is piling on top of her. She's never struggled to keep on top of stuff before.

Parents evening was fine. Mostly about what they can do to support them in their next steps.

I have seen homework being done at home which is a novelty around here. DS is going to notice a big difference when his fourth subject falls away after the AS exam (assuming teaching does stop then), he will have 4.5 hours more free time a week and one less subject to spend time on.

I keep checking the date for the end of the summer term, I've checked it three times so far. I know it's right, I knew it was right before I booked our holiday but it's two weeks earlier than the local schools and I keep having moments of self doubt. Not that there's anything I could do if it was wrong, it's booked now.

chocolateworshipper · 24/03/2017 17:19

As if I needed evidence that you just can't win with teenagers, DD has been complaining that one of her subjects is too easy and she's bored because she gets the work done too quickly Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/03/2017 08:12

thats funny chocolate. A good opportunity for dd to extend herself further?

I think dds college just make then do more epq work when the as' finish. I'm not sure though. She is working so hard at the moment. Revision timetable has been created. We've been negotiating breaks.

"DD has been complaining that one of her subjects is too easy and she's bored because she gets the work done too quickly"

What subject is that? Either she is extremely bright or she isn't doing the work properly.

DD will be dropping psychology after the AS exams, and that will free up so much time. she seems to get disproportionately more psychology homework than all her other subjects.

I wish she would learn to study without distractions. We have rows about it as she refuses to do any work without the TV/YouTube/messaging her friends. Unfortunately she needs her laptop for research for a lot of her homework, and also to access emails and the online homework, so I can't just switch the router off. Also, by 16 she needs to be able to self regulate and be more focused, but it isn't happening yet.

chocolateworshipper · 30/03/2017 12:34

It's a BTEC and she is getting straight distinctions, so we know it's not a case of her not working hard enough. I think the problem is that she is the only one that did the subject at GCSE, so of course she finds it easier than everyone else at the moment. I have a feeling she will get a shock in the second year though!

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/04/2017 08:25

There is a distinct possibility that I will be no longer able to post on here for much longer so as this is the only long running thread I am on I wanted to wish you and your dcs all the best for the forthcoming AS exams and of course with their A levels next year.

I shall continue to read from the other side of the perimeter fence.

Sorry to hear that Exit. I do hope you're OK. Very best wishes for the future to you and DD xx

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/04/2017 08:48

I'm fine. Sorry just realised that sounded a bit dramatic.

TheSecondOfHerName · 01/04/2017 08:54

DS1 is doing OK. February mock exam results were CDD overall, but three of his papers were high C grades.

English Lit is going better than expected. His target is a C. A recent essay was graded B. They had an end of term 'surprise test' where they were given a question from a past paper, and he got an A!

Exit hope you're able to stay; we will miss you if you go.

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/04/2017 09:01

Just waiting for the big ban hammer to fall 😜

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/04/2017 09:07

Oh no Exit!!! We will have to feed you Greggs sausage rolls through the fence! What on earth have you been up to?

What did you do? 😲

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/04/2017 09:19

To my shame I got into a bit of spat over on the FWR threads.

I was warned to stick 'well within' Talk Guidelines so I used blank posts to mark my place on threads.

And I've had my blank posts deleted!

One particular poster ego reports me repeatedly so after my blank posts were deleted last night I it is only a matter time before I get the email.

TheSecondOfHerName · 01/04/2017 09:27

I'll forgive you if you remind me how to do blank posts.
It used to be:
