new thread so we don't get lost. Well done to all our dc whether doing btech (or breach as autocorrect prefers to call it) or a levels. 1/6 of the way through this year. (blimey)

Can you plead Friday night madness? It happens to the best of us.

I would be sorry to see you go Exit, maybe your twin could keep in touch? I post maybe one in five of the essays I write, the rest I delete because there is no point telling people they are wrong when they don't want to hear it.

TheSecond what great news. Has his motivation improved as well?

DS is flat out on the settee, I had to go and pick him up from an activity this morning and he came out clutching a plastic bag seeing as he'd vomited once already. He had a massive row last night with DH (my verdict - they were both in the wrong) and I did wonder whether that was the cause.

HesMyLobster · 01/04/2017 15:07

Exit I really hope you don't have to leave us - you'll be missed Sad

Second, brilliant to hear your ds is settled and doing well, wonderful news.

Knitting, hope your ds feels better soon.

Littledrummergirl · 01/04/2017 16:49

Oh no ExitSad surely Mnhq can be bribed persuaded to let you stay with Gin or Wine. We will miss you. I'm like knitting and don't post loads of stuff I've typed. Surely they cant ban you for blank posts-they put the option in.

TheSecondOfHerName · 01/04/2017 16:59

Has his motivation improved as well?

It has - he responds v.well to positive reinforcement. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/04/2017 12:29

TheSecond, that's awesome, I'm so pleased :) I think that many kids who have struggled can suddenly find their stride and off they go.

It would be really nice if dc could find a balanced way of going through this. dd has gone into turbo revision mode now her hols have started. It's a bit worrying given how exhausted she has been. Two past papers done already this morning and she's gone back upstairs after scoffing her lunch to do another. I'm quite worried about burnout.

raspberryrippleicecream · 06/04/2017 18:10

DD doesn't finish until tomorrow, and is getting mega stressed already. I know exactly what you mean OYBBK.

Exit if you're reading this I hope you are allowed back at some point. I have no idea what the FWR threads are, perhaps better that way?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/04/2017 21:01

Agreed re Exit, I like her contributions.

Think dd is running out of past papers fortunately. They were given the ones they are allowed to do, presumably college are keeping some back for after the mocks. Stress levels are dipping, I hope your dd Raspberry finds the same once she settles into revision.

catslife · 07/04/2017 09:23

Final day of college for dd today before the Easter holidays start.
dd has had quite a busy week meeting deadlines and has also been on a UCAS day held at nearby university. She still hasn't really made up her mind whether uni is what she would really like to do though - an apprenticeship is more likely (but less info seems to be given to parents about this alternative imo).

Icouldbeknitting · 07/04/2017 09:43

DS had another test this week (I suspect the rest of the class had mocks). He's in the same position with Law that he was with History last year, he writes and writes and writes and runs out of time with half a question left. With History he went from too wordy to too succinct to just right, with Law he doesn't really have the time for that because the exam is five weeks away. The law of diminishing returns is something I made up to mess with him. He is so stubborn it's untrue. This is not working for me but I'll do it the same way again and again in the expectation that next time will be different.

HesMyLobster · 08/04/2017 11:28

Phew! Made it to the end of term!

Dd has been in France since Wednesday - she spent the day at European Parliament yesterday, I managed to watch her giving her speech on the live news stream!

A very surreal moment to see such a confident, articulate (in French!Shock) young woman when I still think of her as my goofy little girl. Wink

Can't wait to get her home tomorrow. She took homework and revision for the coach journey (18 hours each way Confused) so I'm hoping she'll be able to relax and rest a bit this week.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/04/2017 19:43

You must be so proud Lobster. What a wonderful thing for her to be able to do and how lovely that you could witness the woman she is becoming.

Knitting, how frustrating!

OP posts:
raspberryrippleicecream · 12/04/2017 15:08

Wow Lobster that's amazing. I can't imagine DD, who is also doing French, doing that.

Icouldbe hope the penny drops for him soon!

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/04/2017 23:12

Lobster that's amazing! My dd can barely speak to people she knows in English, let alone give a speech to important people in a foreign language. How fabulous is your dd?!!

I have no idea whether dd has started revising or not as I've been on a school trip this week, Monday to Thursday. I've just about caught up on sleep now, but haven't really managed to catch up with how dd has been getting on, i can't imagine there's been too much revision going on though. She has been talking about changing her mind about which degree she wants to do, apparently physics isn't as great as she thought it was and she fancies computing science instead. She isn't doing Computing ALevel but apparently that is fine as she only needs Maths in order to do a computing degree (some places specify computing, but most don't apparently).

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/04/2017 23:23

DD went to the Uniq Conference last week and had a brilliant time, fell in love with Oxford, and is just so looking forward to going to uni in general. She is another who struggles speaking to new people and the whole experience has helped her confidence.

Some revising happening, she also has a French study day at school on Saturday in preparation for the French oral exam next week. We have her AS timetable.

She said she was the only person she met at the Conference doing actual AS this year (apart from Maths), so she is a bit fed up with it all.

MsAwesome where was your trip? And I thought she was dead set on the Physics!

Icouldbeknitting · 17/04/2017 16:17

It's only a month now to the exams. I saw the appearance of an AQA revision guide this morning which made a refreshing change.

UrsulaPandress · 17/04/2017 16:30

Oh mind if I join in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/04/2017 17:15

Welcome to the group Ursula :)

dd has mocks starting tomorrow. She seems very chilled about it.

OP posts:
raspberryrippleicecream · 17/04/2017 23:40

Welcome Ursula.

We are on holiday until next Monday. DD is in bed though being sick every couple of hours, and worrying about not being well enough to revise.

Icouldbeknitting · 18/04/2017 08:25

Hello Ursula. I have a male teen slacker who is again leaving revision until the last minute. I'm telling myself that it worked for GCSEs and everything will be fine but I remain unconvinced. There's nothing that I can do about it as I know full well that nagging does not work with him. I am hoping that going on an open day may focus his mind except there's only a week between that and his first exam....

DS is off for the rest of this week, it's a week juggling driving lessons, music practice and visits to the gym and cinema. His AS revision strategy appears to be total denial so that's not being a big time commitment. On a positive note, yesterday we managed to have a civil discussion about possible Uni choices rather than it being a forbidden subject that must not be touched upon (see "denial").

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/04/2017 08:42

raspberry :( there's a lot of it about and better this week than during exams. I hope she gets better quickly.

It was tough getting up at dawn o'clock this morning after a week of lie ins!

OP posts:
MsAwesomeDragon · 18/04/2017 11:17

raspberry your poor DD. I hope she feels better soon. We went to London on our trip, I've done the same trip now for 4 years and this was the second year I've been completely in charge. 50 year 9 pupils and 4 other teachers expecting me to know what I'm doing! It went relatively smoothly, with only minor niggles about stuff so I'm happy.

I thought dd was dead set on physics too, but apparently "particle physics is great, but a lot of the rest of physics is a bit meh". So she's thinking about computing. What she'd really like is a degree that lets her do physics and maths and computing all together, but the only course like that which is actually accredited by various professional boards is at Cambridge, which is a possibility but she's realistic enough to know it's not at all certain that she's get in, and she's not even sure she wants to go there.

Good luck to your dd in her mocks kitten, although I'm sure she won't need it.

Knitting denial is a valid revision strategy in our house too it seems. Dd apparently did no revision while i was away last week. I've suggested that she does some past papers this week, but I'm not going to nag as that doesn't work, she smiles and mods then doesn't do anything.

Icouldbeknitting · 18/04/2017 11:28

Raspberry DS was ill through the last week of term and I was a few days behind him. It was D and V with less V but much D. He was ill for seven days, I was a full nine days and another week until I was really better. Whatever we had this time was not the usual three day wonder. I can't remember the last time that either of us was this ill. It never touched DH which was good as we only have two toilets.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/04/2017 13:08

dd hasn't been that impressed about physics either this year. It's still too broad I think, so she loves some bits (the maths) and hates other bits (the words). Thanks MrsAD btw. She should be fine.

OP posts:
raspberryrippleicecream · 18/04/2017 16:01

DS1 is doing Theoretical Physics, which seems very Mathsy and Computers.

Knitting good grief! Hopefully it's not that bug, just seems to be V. She has progressed to toast and camomile tea today.
