new thread so we don't get lost. Well done to all our dc whether doing btech (or breach as autocorrect prefers to call it) or a levels. 1/6 of the way through this year. (blimey)

Knitting I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't even begin to think about how difficult that must be. Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2017 22:21

How awful Knitting :( there aren't words.

ShanghaiDiva · 13/03/2017 22:32

Knitting - certainly puts everything into perspective.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/03/2017 10:01

The AS levels are frighteningly close. I'm not sure I've actually seen any exam related activity either Confused

knitting That is devastating. Your poor friends.

Ds has the AS dates. There is study leave but that's not much help really as he has his first exam on the first day of study leave. Have they looked at past papers? Do they know what the structure of the exam is? The answer is (and I quote) "Dunno".

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/03/2017 16:52

DS1 only has two actual AS exams but the school calendar is showing three weeks of Y12 study leave (two weeks before half term and one after) so I'm guessing there must be other subjects that aren't yet linear.

I'd like him to raise his game in Government & Politics, or he'll be looking at a C/D in this summer's AS.

Icouldbeknitting · 17/03/2017 17:37

DS has two AS exams. He gets six days exam leave before the holidays and then they start back as normal two days after the holidays (or possibly immediately afterwards as the wording on the calendar is unclear). One of his subjects is finishing with the AS so the AS to A2 teaching is meaningless there and I'm assuming that subject will drop from his timetable after half term. I'm sure that he'll sort it out in due course or keep turning up to lessons anyway.

I have seen signs of homework this week which is a welcome novelty.

chocolateworshipper · 17/03/2017 18:00

Interesting - DD doesn't seem to get study leave. Luckily she is only doing one AS level, and has plenty of free periods in her timetable, so fingers crossed it will be ok.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/03/2017 18:38

dd has as exams in all 4 subjects. No idea how many for 2 of them, but for maths and fm that's 6 papers. I don't think she gets study leave. We haven't been told anything. Mocks after Easter.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/03/2017 18:53

Dd will be moving away for uni, just like raspberry the local uni (the same one) doesn't offer anything to interest dd, so she has to move whether she wants to our not. She's looking at Lancaster currently, and went to a physics masterclass there on Wednesday, managing to get there and back by train (it's an easy journey, but she got lost in the way back to the station and had to ask for directions).

I can't see much exam related activity from dd, or any from my y12 class, even though we have been discussing the short time till the exams. I have 7 weeks of lessons left before the maths AS exams (so assuming you all have 2 weeks off at Easter, so do you), and still have 4 weeks worth of new maths to learn, so I'm expecting them to be doing revision over and above my regular homework but i don't believe they are.

Icouldbeknitting · 17/03/2017 19:54

MsAwesomeDragon I did ask DS how many weeks there were to the exams and he got that right but he doesn't seem to think that there's any need for revision yet. It does feel like GCSEs all over again but without the near-constant past exam papers. I keep suggesting all those things that worked last time round but ears are deaf and I might as well be talking to the wall. As I said, like GCSEs all over again.

raspberryrippleicecream · 18/03/2017 00:10

MsAwesomeDragon Lancaster is giving out lots of unconditionals for Physics this year, probably best not to tell your DD! (Hardly recognised her this evening, by the way).

Revision has started here but DD feels like she wading through mud currently. We have had big problems with English Lit teaching, which is even more annoying as it was the one AS she wasn't meant to be doing this year, but the newly arrived teacher decided they all should! So she has 5 AS exams. We raised some concerns.

She is struggling with Maths but not Further Maths, the other way round I think she'd drop it.

Three weeks study leave here, but Further Maths is after that so it may be unofficially extended by me as she works better at home.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2017 07:18

I think dads college may have finished the maths content, not sure as dd commented that all their homework is past papers now.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2017 07:19

dd not dads!

OP posts:
MsAwesomeDragon · 18/03/2017 08:26

All the homework I'm giving now is past papers too, i just tell them not to do the questions we haven't finished with yet.

Raspberry i won't tell her about the unconditional offers for Lancaster, but it's good to know as she really quite fancies their course. She may actually do better in her A levels if she has no pressure for results. I suppose we'll go to other unis for open days too, but I'm really hoping she'll do the idea of Oxbridge as it's a long way and a lot of pressure. (I didn't stay to watch last night as I've had the week from hell, but she says it all went well)

catslife · 18/03/2017 14:22

dd has had mock exams this week for the 2 subjects that are non linear with AS exams this Summer. There are only 2 actual examinations since there is also coursework for both subjects. She has been working hard to complete this over the past few weeks.
I have searched in vain for an exam timetable on the college website but no sign of anything.
It is Parents Evening next week which should be much easier with only 3 teachers to meet.

HesMyLobster · 21/03/2017 17:33

Dd has had her exam timetable. She'll be doing external AS exams in 2 subjects - maths because it hasn't changed to linear and English because she isn't continuing with it into Year 13.
There will be internal exams in French and History but no timetable yet for those.
This term is going so fast - only 2 weeks left after this one!

Icouldbeknitting · 21/03/2017 18:37

DS doesn't know whether he will have internal exams or not. I will ask the friend who I take home a few days a week because he is more reliable on these things. He's the one who has mocks when mine has tests.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/03/2017 22:16

It is going fast! Then after easter, mocks, as exams and ? oh dear! They go through to early July, presumably continuing with the a level content.

dd is exhausted. She's working really hard.

OP posts:
ShanghaiDiva · 21/03/2017 23:06

DS iis taking the IB diploma so only has two exams this year (he is taking German early) at the beginning of May. Mocks were earlier this month and he has also had the oral exam.,
Agree Lobster - this term is flying by. As IB exams are all at the beginning of May ds will have finished school by mid next year - just 14 months left!

raspberryrippleicecream · 22/03/2017 00:35

MsAwesome there is still the reward of £3,000 to aim for for, if they get the standard offer!

I've now got a list of possible unis from DD together with a list of open day dates. They range from Exeter to St Andrews, via UCL (and we are hundreds of miles from all of those!). We will not be doing all of them so she'll have to do some sifting!

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/03/2017 17:00

DS1 went on a Politics trip this time last week to the Palace of Westminster. They had an interesting day (he enjoyed watching the House of Commons in action) but I am so relieved they didn't go this week.

He's going to the Globe Theatre and the V&A next week.

Icouldbeknitting · 22/03/2017 20:20

DS went to the Globe early on in the year. He was really taken with it, i heard more about that than the rest of the trip.

HesMyLobster · 23/03/2017 00:05

I bet you are Second, thank goodness it wasn't today.

DH was round the corner when it happened - his office went on lock down. He says it was frustrating rather than scary but I was terrified when I couldn't get hold of him for nearly an hour!

I hope everyone else and their loved ones are safe - thinking of those affected tonight.
