here we are.

oh flipping heck Muffin. I'm sorry about that. It's a good reminder for the rest of us to check our insurance though.

Fantasy, that's great :)

needastrongone · 26/09/2016 20:14

I agree Lobster, DS is beginning to admit to feeling shy and overwhelmed, rather than making excuses. Long process.

The email has been written though, changed dramatically from my draft...

Well done Fantasy DD!

Oh crap Muffin

Shock at the flute..... lucky there to get that back. DD's flute cost £300, I would be somewhat annoyed....!

MsMermaid · 26/09/2016 20:33

I know. I was somewhat annoyed about the flute, but she was crying when she told me so I didn't want to go to hard on her. I'd have been a hypocrite if I had gone in all guns blazing as well, cos I left it (yes, the same flute) on a bus 3 times between the ages of 14 and 18 Blush

MsMermaid that made me laugh a bit, DS3 is currently learning the flute on my very lovely second instrument after I left the first one on my bed and bent it into a right angle standing on it. So hard to be cross properly when we've been there and done all of that Grin.

MsMermaid · 26/09/2016 23:31

Exactly. I can't be too cross when I understand completely. My mum went ballistic the first time I left it on the bus. By the third time she just said "well you'd better ring them then, maybe they can put it back on the bus you get in the morning". They did as well, the driver handed it to me with a big grin.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 08:11

waved quite a washed out dd off to college today. Long day yesterday and a full on cold this morning. Poor love. It's just one of those things, but grrr to pesky cold germs.

OP posts:
ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/09/2016 08:32

DD had weepy eyes all weekend (not helped by modelling a fox fur hat Hmm) so fully expecting her to come down with one of her horrendous colds - bless her but she has been snot city since a small baby.

On the plus side, the bit of modelling work she has been doing has turned into a new job as the lady she models for is opening a shop and wants DD to work there, selling stuff plus wafting round the shop wearing the clothes.

At least she won't come home smelling of cooked spam. But we will have less free cake. Sad

needastrongone · 27/09/2016 08:52

Sorry Mermaid, my post came over as rather mean, I honestly didn't mean it to be so. Smile

Hope your DD is ok Kitten, it's that time of year isn't it and this seems a long half term I always think, not that we are that far in!

Great news about the job Exit, not so much about the cold though.

DS has hardly any lessons today, the timetable is unfortunately weighted in his case toward the back end of the week. He's taken some homework and New Scientist with him.

For any STEM type students, the New Scientist subscription is really excellent, and good value.

DS's teacher emailed him back within 2 minutes to say she would fully support his application, he would be a perfect candidate and she was actually going to approach him this week anyway. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 08:52

very glamorous Exit!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 08:53

needastrongone that's awesome news!

OP posts:
FantasyAndHope · 27/09/2016 10:32

exit

DD has a very bad cold and period issues she's feeling knackered one of her teachers hasn't being in meaning she can catch up with all her English work. But she said her room and study are freezing heating isn't turned on till next month sometime

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 11:04

On the happy side of life, dds remark came back as an a*. YES!!!

OP posts:
ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/09/2016 11:23

Oh that's good news OYBBK. Does that mean she got a full haul of A*s?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 11:32

One lonely A - oh the shame. Grin

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 11:37

Oops, sorry, that came across as a bit smug. Genuinely wasn't expecting it to change.

OP posts:
ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/09/2016 11:38

That poor A. What was it in?

Icouldbeknitting · 27/09/2016 11:46

I have no idea what's happening with the remark for DS because it was school's idea. I wouldn't have sent it off as it's in a dropped subject but now that they've set the wheels in motion I want to know, now (if not sooner).

Ds is in week three now, the honeymoon period continues. Long may it last. After all the effort in Y11 (music exam, sixth form visits, more sixth form visits, mocks, revision nagging, exams) I'm finding the lack of parental involvement positively blissful.

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/09/2016 11:54

I'm still not convinced that DD is doing enough extra work, but as she is reading The Crucible in bed at night I suppose I will have to settle for that.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 11:57

A practical subject Exit Grin as she says, shes much better at theory than putting things into practise!

Knitting, it must be here soon. I'm pretty sure that I read the exam boards have a deadline of 30 days of issuing final marks.

First internal exams next week. oh dear. dd seems entirely laid back about them though.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 12:06

Yes, AQA say "review of marking within 30 calendar days." so Knitting, you could ask his old school when they actually submitted it. Wouldn't harm to ask.

OP posts:
Icouldbeknitting · 27/09/2016 13:08

It's ages then, it's not even 30 days from the date by which school wanted a response from us. Presumably they sent off many remarks so add a few days to that for collation and final review and it's looking like mid-October. Patience is a virtue and it doesn't affect anything anyway - it just shows that I don't have much else to fret about.

DS has a test this week. I suppose it's possible that he's doing revision in his study periods but I suspect that he's going to turn up and rely on his memory. I am carefully not asking.

MrSlant · 27/09/2016 14:42

Well done OYBBK junior. We are awaiting a re-mark but that's to go from a D to a C, although if he gets it there will be fullsome praise as it was an essay subject through the medium of Welsh which in my mind is harder than trying to knit with uncooked spaghetti whilst skydiving.

Not a lot of homework going on here either, it's very odd. I nagged at olympic levels last term and I feel a bit useless without it. DS2 brought some maths homework in that I was excited to help him with and he ended up showing me an easier way and answering all the questions quicker than me. It's very strange going from a child who really struggles to one who is top set and really engaged with everything! Not, perhaps, something I should complain about though Grin.

DS1 doesn't have a job due to the huge amount of out of school activities he does (which contribute to his degree application so not something to be shirked) and, mainly, because most jobs for people his age require engaging in conversation with other people and making eye contact and that is a skill we are still working on. I did suggest a paper round which would at least combine one of his great loves with working but apparently carbon fibre racing bikes aren't practical for the job Hmm

needastrongone · 27/09/2016 15:32

MrsSlant I feel your pain re engaging in conversation and making eye contact. We are improving, but it's not a natural skill DS will ever have. DD on the other hand.....

Oh dear, still waiting for re-marks. Not great. Fingers crossed though.

Brilliant news Kitten, how fantastic for your DD. What a brilliant set of results.

I am hoping New Scientist is background reading and study. Although, I suspect Maths is quite hard to study around.

needastrongone · 27/09/2016 15:33

Apologies, two brilliants there, and not enough reading through prior to posting.........
