here we are.

Fingers crossed for everyone who is still waiting for a remark. I was so convinced that we'd made a huge error in submitting for a remark that she should just be pleased with what she had (she was, it just was a little niggle) and that by us agreeing to it, she'd end up being graded down.

Forever the optimist I am!

Great news OYBBK!

Well done to your DD F&H
*
Strongone* - that's fab. I hope he does go for it now!

Exit - I always thought Spam was eaten out of the tin and not cooked...!

DS has got over his weekend trauma - has admitted that he was fed up, tired, he "gets" the subject and there is plenty support available. It's a relief as he hadn't seriously thought about what he would choose if he had dropped it!

FantasyAndHope · 27/09/2016 22:17

DD has rang to say she's freezing cold and is constantly filling a hot a water bottle to keep warm she fell asleep in her study today in her triple free. She said it was nice with her hot water bottle and a boy lent her his heater

HesMyLobster · 27/09/2016 22:26

Wow so much good news on here today! How brilliant, huge well done to all your clever dcs!

DD had her 'interview' with head of 6th form today.
The slt basically meet with each yr12, have a chat about how things are going, check folders for evidence of work etc.
DD was hoping to have hers with pretty much any other member of staff as the Hof6 is notoriously negative and critical (remember our delightful 'settling in' parents' meeting?!) However she was pleasantly surprised as it was brief but very positive. She invited DD to join the "Oxbridge hopefuls" group which starts this week. The school gets maybe 1or 2 students there each year, although none for the past 2 years. There are only 8 in the group so out of 600 in the cohort it's a real privilege to be asked - it's given her a real boost Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2016 22:31

That's awesome, good for her Lobster :)

That's a lovely piece of news Lobster. Personally I'm all for meetings that are brief and very positive, usually I'd be happy to settle for" brief".

MrSlant · 27/09/2016 22:47

Wow Lobster, even if that's not the path she chooses what a confidence boost indeed!

What I love about this group is how we seem to have every sort of child, there are a few of us SN mums where every C is a bonus and there are obviously some high flyers but it doesn't seem like a competition, just great companionship as we get through the trials and tribulations of starting a new phase in learning. We are just rooting for everyone to do the best they can without any of us parents having breakdown along the way Grin

Fantasy I think that's a cost saving measure they try to pass off as 'character building' Grin we weren't allowed to close the windows, EVER, and often there was ice on the inside of the dorm windows. My dad remembers the same. It's probably how I just spent 45 minutes messing about in the sea in just a cossie whilst everyone else was in their winter wet suits and I get all sweaty for 9 months of the year.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/09/2016 22:50

That's great Lobster and good for her confidence too.

MsMermaid · 27/09/2016 22:50

Fab news for Kitten junior. A very impressive set of results there.

I'm glad her "interview" was so positive Lobster, it's a definite privilege to be asked to join the Oxbridge hopefuls group. We have a similar group at my school, and we only invite those with a realistic chance of getting in.

Knitting, the 30 days is a final date, rather than definitive. We got some remarks back at school today that we only sent off 2 weeks ago. Only 1 has changed out of 9 we submitted, but it's worth it for that one change up from a C to a B (one of my pupils, and she really deserves a B).

MrSlant and Need, we are working on eye contact and conversation here too. Dd can manage it with people she knows well, but sort of grunts one syllable answers to anybody else. I'm sure the more practice she gets the more confident she will feel about it, it's just getting her to do it a few times to start with.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/09/2016 09:30

I agree MrSlant :) we have a lovely mini community on here where we can celebrate and support everyone.

I think dd is starting to get a bit better at talking to strangers. It's not a natural thing for her but she does answer them now. It's funny when you see other teens who are so confident.

Hello all. I have been absent for a bit concentrating on getting ds off to university and settled in. We have had some tearful phone calls but it seems reasonably ok so far. He has quite complex additional needs so I am still very worried.
The house seems strange without him and while dd is enjoying the peace at the moment I am sure she will miss him. (Who else is she going to discuss maths with for a start?)
DD has a bad cold and as usually happens has more or less lost her voice. She is still going in but will probably have to miss the first rehearsal of the college choral society tonight. It is a pity as it took a bit of persuasion to get her to give it a try. She loves singing but is another one who struggles with new people.

needastrongone · 28/09/2016 16:10

Lobster, that's fantastic for your DD. Well done to her and so pleasing for you.

It seems a good few of our DC struggle a touch socially. My DS does the grunt thing with 'unknowns' too. Smile

Fingers crossed that your DS keeps on settling in to Uni, such an upheaval and change for you all.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/09/2016 18:47

NoHaudin, it must be a real wrench. You do realise now that in two years time we will all be pumping you for advice? I hope he settles quickly.

I think the whole world has this cold :( I feel like I have a tickly baby panda squashing my chest.

DD seems to be happy. She's very tired due to the cold and bad period. She's overslept for the past few mornings which isn't like her. On the plus side she is nearly caught up with her work.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 28/09/2016 19:48

fantasy cold and period is a miserable combination. It is good she is managing to work at all.

no
She's exhausted but friends have being off and they've had so much to catch up on DD just didn't want to risk it. So he free periods she spends with a hot water bottle and hot Ribena and watches iplayer so she's not over working herself

HesMyLobster · 28/09/2016 21:24

Shiny hope your dc3 is ok?

Fantasy your poor DD seems to be really suffering. My DD had a horrible time with periods - the gp prescribed a few different treatments which didn't work, then mefanamic acid which worked a bit for a while then stopped, until eventually trying the pill about 6 months ago, which has been amazing, complete transformation, she has hardly any pain at all now. I would really recommend seeing your gp as it can be so debilitating going through such a horrendous time every month.

NoHaudin you are now our resident dc-at-uni expert and we'll spend the next 2 years bombarding you with questions! GrinWink hope your ds settles in well and has a positive start.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/09/2016 21:37

That's rotten Shiney. It's so early in the season for beds to be full. I hope your DC is ok.

Early night for me tonight.

hes
We've seen gp it's being investigated DD has being offered pill and she didn't want it and personally I wouldn't like her to have it either not for contraceptive reasons but it was entirely her own decision.
Gp think it could be endometriosis or PCOs or both
