Thank you all for understanding. Flowers

Looking through the posts there are quite a few who are still in some sort of limbo, whether that's waiting for remarks or trying to decide on next steps. It's a shame that results day hasn't ended our worrying; it's just started us on to the next phase of worrying. I wonder if we'll ever stop? Grin

littledrummergirl · 31/08/2016 21:57

Wow, there's been loads going on since I last popped in!
I took ds1, ds2 and Dd out for dinner tonight to celebrate ds1 hard work. His choice of meal.
Dh is away as mil has been unwell for a month or so and is still going downhill. I think she'll come through but dh and sil are sharing caring for her. Juggling work and dc has been funHmm
Dd starts secondary on Friday but ds1 has to wait until Wednesday but is looking forward to the next challenge.
Hope full all problems for everyone will be fixed in next few days and all our dc will settle in quickly.

Shiney you can try asking me Maths questions, but I've never actually taught Further Maths A level (there are 4 teachers in our department who have experience of teaching Further maths so they share it), so it would take me a while to look stuff up. I haven't even taught normal Maths A level since before I went on mat leave with dd2, 7 years ago. I'm teaching Y12 this year though, which is nice.

Little Sorry your mil is ill Flowers and sorry you're having to cope without your dh at home.

TheDrsDocMartens · 01/09/2016 06:32

Just place marking. Nothing to add yet. Dd1 is back on Weds to sort out timetable etc , her new form teacher taught her last year & is lovely so v happy about that.

2gorgeousboys · 01/09/2016 08:09

Found you! I've just been catching up on the last of the old thread as real life has got in the way for the last few days!!

DS and I are going shopping on Friday to purchase stationary etc. He got new trainers when we were in America on holiday and has decided last years bag can be used again so it shouldn't be too painful, although I have promised him a new pair of jeans!

He's finally settled on History as his third option (he had a wobble on results day when he did not get his predicted grade!) so will be doing drama BTEC, Comms and Culture A level and History A level.

He starts back on Tuesday and is looking forward to the new challenges and DS2 starts Year 8 on Wednesday.

Here you all are! One piece of homework is done, the decision to do one piece a day didn't last very long but given that DS has spent half his life with the dog I think that's understandable (invisible writing ON - he's still with us as his Last Visit to the vet yesterday had a surprise return journey. I think it's only a question of time though, it's massive painkillers while we look for any signs of recovery of rear end function because although it is unlikely, it is possible. I am trying to avoid a lifetime sentence without parole for me "murdering his dog")

DS should end up with 18 hours a week tuition and he's supposed to put another 18 hours in on top of that. If he travels on the school bus (one a day each way) and uses his free periods well he'll probably have no more homework than he had in Y11.

TheSecondOfHerName · 01/09/2016 08:41

ITCouldBeWorse welcome and well done to your DD.

TheSecondOfHerName · 01/09/2016 08:43

Icouldbeknitting it's really hard, isn't it? We had to make the decision last autumn with our much-loved cat who had lived with us for 17 years.

chocolateworshipper · 01/09/2016 08:44

Many thanks to kitten for getting us started. Big welcome to Flowers and ICBW.

ICBW - fantastic news about your DD. We were in a similar position as DD was only diagnosed with dyslexia at the end of year 10. She is severely dyslexic, but with a slightly unusual profile which is why it wasn't picked up earlier I think. Luckily she did better than she expected in her exams. She is doing 3 A levels, but two of them are largely coursework based, so not completely dependent on exams

Hello to Flowers and Itcouldbeworse!

I am finding it really interesting how many different options our young people have. It is great but can be confusing.

I have emailed head of sixth form over changing from psychology to history A level. Think it is going to be possible which is good news. DD had high scores in history so it seems sensible to do that instead of the unknown psychology. Also a bonus as my MIL thinks she is an expert in psychology so we avoid all of her tutoring!

So much has happened in a week. Hopefully in another week our kids will be settled into their new subjects/places.

FantasyAndHope · 01/09/2016 10:13

Hello to flowers and itcouldbeworse
Count down to back to school has started although DD is certain the true countdown is count down till she turns 18 I laughed I love how she thinks I'll let her go out drinking not a chance Grin

NoHaudinMaWheest · 01/09/2016 11:05

Hello can I join in? Dd is about to start at a specialist maths school doing 3 A levels there and history at the local nearby FE.
She has ASD, dyslexia and uses a wheelchair a lot of the time so there was a lot of preparation involved and a lot of worries about how she will cope. I think she will fit it better than at her old comprehensive though. The school was very supportive but she just didn't really gel with anyone.

Well done to your dd ItCouldBeWorse. Re university. I have just been through the application process with ds who has ASD and dylexia amoung other things. It is worth knowing that in order to qualify for Disabled Students Allowance and exam adjustments, students with dyslexia have to have an educational psychology or specialist teacher's assessment done after they were 16.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/09/2016 11:48

Hello I found you. The last thread was my first ever mn 1000-post thread

I think we are all ready for Monday. I am away with the Dc at the moment do all nerves and prep is on hold.

FantasyAndHope · 01/09/2016 15:05

DD gave me a list of folders she wanted and I went and bought them for a coupon off so she can go and buy pens and pencils tomorrow when she gets her nails done

EllenJanethickerknickers · 01/09/2016 15:47

Waves at NoHaudin. How did your DS1 do? University for him? You must be bursting with pride for them both! Flowers

Well, I think DS2's course is sorted. However, his timetable is likely to change and student services don't seem to able to access it. But apparently it'll be on the vle in a day or two. Here's hoping. Smile

Hi to ItCouldBeWorse. How lovely that your DD did better than she'd hoped. Smile

Icouldbeknitting, sorry to hear DDog isn't getting any better. Sad

I went back to work today at my fairly tough comp. We had really good GCSE results for us this year, except for science. (I'm the science technician) Sad Mainly due to us being forced to drop BTEC science for the lower ability DC because it doesn't fit in the EBACC basket for attainment and progress 8. So politics getting in the way of what's best for the DC again.

Anyway, summer holidays are over for me but DS3 doesn't start back until Monday and DS2 until Wed. DS1 goes to university (gulp) on 2nd Oct.

TheSecondOfHerName · 01/09/2016 16:00

Welcome to NoHaudin - I recognise you from SN chat.

Bought smart shoes, suit, extra pair trousers, three shirts & two ties for less than £130 today, so feeling quite smug happy.

In Operation Maths news, DS1 has done about two hours today so far and still going, so hopefully should be better equipped for the readiness-for-A-level test.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 01/09/2016 16:12

Great price, Second!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 01/09/2016 16:23

HI Ellen Ds got AAC in A levels and is going to Swansea to do (surprise, surprise) computer science.

Hi to Second too. Well done to DS1 on the maths revision. DD has done a little but reckons she is ok and remembers most of it. Having done Further maths she is at a bit of an advantage to begin with but that won't last long.
She has an orientation visit with the physio tomorrow and then starts on Monday.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 01/09/2016 16:45

Wow, great summer for you all, NoHaudin! Lovely to have a small oasis of delight this August, though. Never seems to last long. Now on to the next stage of worrying and stress! Grin

228agreenend · 01/09/2016 18:58

Bit - congrats on being no 1000

FantasyAndHope · 01/09/2016 19:09

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/09/2016 19:37

Welcome NoHaudin, Flowers and ICBW. :) I've had a flipping exhausting day, so at the moment can't be bothered to say much more than that Grin dh is making me egg and chips so hopefully I'll be more conversant later.
