I've got the following on my record (to tell social worker):-

-verbal harassment conviction against an adult neighbour expired
-6 defaults against banks, never been bankrupt
-Unstable employment history due to health and caring responsibilities mainley been on benefits last 5 years. Employed for 1 year.
-Previous dispute against social services claiming i refuse to engage in services. Now case closed.
-Diagnosed with tinnitus - minor issue/managable
-No contact details of ex/got divorce certificate
-Income of £400 per month cash in hand
-Savings of £15,040 and some spare change
-Currently giving 25 hours care per week to an autistic individual cash in hand.

Any point in applying?

@braveheart2020

Ok will let yous know how fostering got on.
Amazing.
NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 12/03/2021 18:16

From your description of yourself I'm wondering if you're my sister, although the £15'000 in savings makes this unlikely.

I'd say don't bother applying, your motivation for wanting to Foster is clearly personal financial gain only and you don't sound remotely mature or caring enough to even Foster a pigeon, never mind a child! Also I'd like to think social services wouldn't even consider you, so don't waste their time.

Cissyandflora · 12/03/2021 18:18

No come on. This is a joke. Someone is winding us up. Blatantly.

ItsMarch · 12/03/2021 18:20

Any point in applying?
No.

HTH.

worriedwithhindsight · 12/03/2021 18:28

I hope to god you don't stand a chance - you sound unfit to be anywhere near a child.

VVKills27 · 12/03/2021 18:28

I support foster carers and have a lot of experience assessing and reviewing them. I also sit on fostering panels. I do think you need to give this matter a lot of thought and research as you may not be aware of the length and intensity of the assessment. It really is a very rigorous process that takes months. All aspects of your life and past will be discussed in depth, we do this to try to ascertain with as much confidence as possible that the most suitable people work with the most vulnerable of children who may have suffered unimaginable abuse and neglect. They are taked from the only thing they have ever known into a life that is often scarier and uncertain. This is a huge emotional responsibility for anyone to take on and I ensure that anyone considering this life takes stock of this. I am not suggesting you do not have some of the skills and experience required but I simply want to make you aware that this is a vocation, a real 24/7 change of life and possibly the greatest responsibility someone could ever have. Above all, as many here have asked, do please consider what your motivation to become a foster carer? Certainly no one has an unblemished past and overcoming difficulties in life may actually be of benefit in some ways but you will need to be brutally honest about all of this if you decide to approach an agency. Ensure this is something your heart is really calling you towards, it’s not like going for any other type of job.

VVKills27 · 12/03/2021 18:29

Excuse typo - I meant to type ‘taken’ not ‘taked’.

Slub · 12/03/2021 18:31

I have a tub of mince in my fridge that's brighter than you OP and for the sake of vulnerable children I hope to god you don't get within a sniffing distance of a panel to be assessed as a potential foster carer.

Lulu1919 · 12/03/2021 18:32

You have to declare your £400
It's illegal not to
You should be paying National Insurance even if no tax

BarnacleB · 12/03/2021 18:35

@braveheart2020

I know plenty of taxi drivers and none of them pay tax thats why they do it.
You can't have met my OH then. He's a taxi driver and pays plenty or tax.
WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 12/03/2021 18:41

Im gonna let my dad know that he shouldn't have paid tax for all the years he was a taxi driver. I'm sure he'll be pleased to claim it all back now he's retired.

I did wonder briefly if you were my brother/SIL. They keep talking about how they are going to apply to be Foster carers. Then talky about how much money they'll get, and that they'll be entitled to a bigger house/more HB. Never anything about wanting to help children. I hope if they ever apply that family are asked if we think they are suitable. It will be a no from me. I mean, I love my brother and SIL. But they shouldn't be allowed to care for vulnerable children.

I think OP is even less suited than they are.

bloodywhitecat · 12/03/2021 18:43

The road to being approved as a foster carer is all encompassing, they dig into the deepest corners of your life, they look at all areas of your past and dig deep into your financial dealings/past relationships/employment history/any dealings with the police etc etc. It is probably the most invasive process I have been through. I would say your reactions to the questions you have been asked here do not sit well with you even getting to panel to be approved. Once approved you still have to have lots of dealings with professionals/social services/medics/education etc you need to be able to represent the child in your care calmly and professionally sometimes against people who talk down to you because they do not consider you to be an equal.

WhySoSensitive · 12/03/2021 18:44

@ItsMarch

Any point in applying? No.

HTH.

What they said.
BrilliantBetty · 12/03/2021 18:49

Don't bother applying. You clearly aren't a good fit. Judging by your communication here alone. And it doesn't take a social worker to work that out.

GameSetMatch · 12/03/2021 18:49

Honestly I hope this is a joke!

WhipperSnapperSteve · 12/03/2021 18:54

How you supposed to measure that as everyone views anyone with a conviction as a life long thug they never look at the time you spent adhering to the law or reoffending means nothing.

This is true, I have a criminal record from when I was 18 for a minor offence and it has affected my life in a myriad of different ways. I am deeply embarrassed and upset over it as I had very mitigating evidence that was ignored which leaves me frustrated and angry yet I am repentant over it. You are not.

I've had dealings with SS, and they will take everything you have in mind, consider your application and deny you. Sorry.

Your allusion to "doing it for the money" significantly affects your character and enraged me. I have a partner who went through the foster care system and had carers like you. Their treatment of her affects her to this day, as does the wonderful enveloping emotionally charged nature from amazing people. You are the former. I hope your application is chucked in the bin.

flapjackfairy · 12/03/2021 18:56

Well I am a foster carer and I foster children with extremely complex needs and I don't earn 50 000 a year !!
Also dh used to be a taxi driver and he had to pay tax and declare all income . That is the law .
Oh and foster carers also have to fill in a tax return and pay tax if they earn over the threshold allowed .

Cassimin · 12/03/2021 19:00

I’m a foster carer of a child with disabilities, can you please let me know where I can find the L.A. or agency that pays that much for caring as I will move.
Also my partner is a taxi driver, he didn’t realise he wasn’t required to pay tax, how does he go about claiming it back.
When we move and get paid 50k for looking after our child he will be able to give up working.
Thanks in advance!
100%wind up or op is delusional.

dotdashdashdash · 12/03/2021 19:24

No, there's no point you applying.

It's not the things your listed that would necessarily stop you (though they'd certainly give pause for thought and depending on the specifics may stop you) it's that you fundamentally are not suitable for the role.

DumpedByText · 12/03/2021 19:29

Why are you being so arsey? You asked some questions, people have given you answers and you don't like them.

You'll be asked a lot tougher questions if you get to the assessment stage of fostering.

KindnessCrusader · 12/03/2021 19:30

I'm sorry op, I don't think it sounds like you'd be a good fit for the role.

Squirrelly1 · 12/03/2021 19:38

I’ve reported you to the inland revenue.

YellowPurple · 12/03/2021 19:41

I do not have a legal contract so do not need to declare it just like a private taxi driver or window cleaner or nanny.

You are joking, right? Confused

YellowPurple · 12/03/2021 19:43

You already care for 4 people.

Are you able to give the foster child 24 hour care, With no other input? Not leaving the child elsewhere or taking them with you to your caring duties?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 12/03/2021 19:52

If you're providing care and receiving undeclared cash in hand, does that mean you also aren't registered/insured in anyway? What if something goes wrong with your service user?
