I've got the following on my record (to tell social worker):-

-verbal harassment conviction against an adult neighbour expired
-6 defaults against banks, never been bankrupt
-Unstable employment history due to health and caring responsibilities mainley been on benefits last 5 years. Employed for 1 year.
-Previous dispute against social services claiming i refuse to engage in services. Now case closed.
-Diagnosed with tinnitus - minor issue/managable
-No contact details of ex/got divorce certificate
-Income of £400 per month cash in hand
-Savings of £15,040 and some spare change
-Currently giving 25 hours care per week to an autistic individual cash in hand.

Any point in applying?

Some really weird posts by OP about fostering 🤔

ApolloandDaphne · 12/03/2021 17:34

I sit on fostering panels and I would say you have little chance of becoming a foster carer with the things you have listed. They do a lot of digging into your past and ask very uncomfortable questions. I honestly don't think you have a chance.

braveheart2020 · 12/03/2021 17:35

its not for you to decide its for a social worker to decide.

@braveheart2020

I do not have a legal contract so do not need to declare it just like a private taxi driver or window cleaner or nanny.
I am a private taxi driver. I have to declare my income just like any other self employed person. Not sure where you got the idea from that taxi drivers don't have to?
ReggieCat · 12/03/2021 17:38

It's up to the panel of lay people and social workers.
PuppyMonkey · 12/03/2021 17:38

They will check everything in your past, present and future OP. They’ll check all your financial details, bank statements, mortgage, rent, employment, you’ll need an enhanced DBS, they’ll speak to social services if you are involved with them, they’ll need references from everyone, you’ll undergo a thorough medical examination. They will want to know everything about you. And if you get to panel, which I suspect you might not, they’ll ask you to explain anything amiss again.... HTH.

MazekeenSmith · 12/03/2021 17:38

No actually it's for a fostering panel to decide But no social worker would be likely to let you get anywhere near one, sorry

@braveheart2020

I'm already a carer for 4 people does that disqualify me from being a foster carer?
4 people? Are they relations or is this a 'private' arrangement?

WelI I am a retired social worker and sit on a panel which recommends whether people should be accepted as carers or not so I do think I know what I am talking about. That chippy attitude will get you nowhere. What experience do you have with children?
LaceyBetty · 12/03/2021 17:39

@braveheart2020

Your wrong
About what?
ApolloandDaphne · 12/03/2021 17:40

Sorry I copied my own post instead of OPs response to me. It still stands though.

puppychaos · 12/03/2021 17:40

I was a self employed cash in hand nanny for years and yes you absolutely need to declare it. Oh dear.

braveheart2020 · 12/03/2021 17:41

Well thats your opinion I was told I would never work with a professional company again after my conviction ( i didnt go to jail) but was treated like as if. I got accepted into companies and a professional tuck driving training course, which people where on who done drugs and murder got accepted. The course leader said its not about what you done, its declaring it to complete the application process as recruitment are not legal advisers or sheriffs.

This comes as a huge relief!!

No. It's your basic level of understanding and attitude that will prevent.

puppychaos · 12/03/2021 17:43

Genuine question: why do you want to be a foster carer?

MazekeenSmith · 12/03/2021 17:43

Do you get that there are many many red flags in your posts not just the conviction?

JorisBonson · 12/03/2021 17:44

The PP literally sits on foster panels. How on earth is it her opinion? It's fact.

Your attitude absolutely stinks, no one would want want a vulnerable kid around that.

mildredsmells · 12/03/2021 17:44

@braveheart2020

I know plenty of taxi drivers and none of them pay tax thats why they do it.
They may not pay tax if their earnings are under the threshold, but they would still certainly be declaring what they earn to hmrc. Besides how many cash only cabs do you know? Most of us are with the times and take card payments more than cash, especially now for hygiene reasons.
PuppyMonkey · 12/03/2021 17:45

Being a foster carer isn’t really the same as truck driving.

(I’m a foster carer).

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 12/03/2021 17:45

Red flags. Red flags everywhere.

@ApolloandDaphne thank goodness.

This thread makes me shudder.

activitythree · 12/03/2021 17:46

You know taking care of the most vulnerable children in society is not on the same level as driving, right?

Toddlerteaplease · 12/03/2021 17:46

You don't seem committed to creating a secure and loving environment for, potentially very damaged children? Their needs will have to come before your own. I think you are only seeing ££ signs.

Chewingle · 12/03/2021 17:46

If you ate already in a caring role, i hope suspect that this will backfire because social services will dig around and perhaps see you as an unsuitable role for your current caring role, let alone additional.
