I've just found a recipe for Pineapple Upsidedown Cake; ingredients list - 1X plain cake donuts, 1X can pineapple slices.

I suspect there must be a massive swathe of American cooking that I have yet to discover.

(And 'pie filling' is not an ingredient.)

(And neither is 'pizza sauce'. WTF?)

Having lived in Germany and now Switzerland I think that there is sometimes a feeling of 'oh, I have never tried this food before, or heard of using this ingredient in this way', when you visit another country.

The first time I went to Germany I was offered beer for breakfast so of course went home to tell everyone that the Germans drink beer for breakfast and aren't they strange. Of course the majority of Germans do not, just as not all Americans eat strange food.

Yes, I know what you mean. All the ingredients and measurements will make sense, too. You can buy cups and measuring spoons in the supermarket cheaply.

I will admit to loving Miracle Whip, although if you decide to try, buy the smallest jar.

I would love to go to America and try some of the food over there, it woul be half of the experience of going over there.

I would particulary like to try some of the stuff from here. I'd have to get one seat for going there, and two for coming back

I love American breakfasts as I'm a greedy hog, but omg the cheese is wierd, ditto bread, and apples are completely tasteless.

Most sweet dishes involve 'graham crackers'

Ergh. I just look at recipe books for ideas then figure out my own way of making it.
