i'm extremely gruey about chicken as it happens, abetadad. it's free-range roast or nothing pretty much. (although mostly because the rest of it tastes like shit, not cos i'm a hippy or anything.)

Incidentally, if you have a strong stomach and a fatalistic fascination at disturbing pictures of food, I heartily recommend the Gallery of Regrettable Food. It contains a selection of pics from US recipe books of the '40s and '50s that makes me wonder how the yanks ever managed to live long enough to get to the Moon. Have a look at this, for example. Wouldn't you prefer to starve?
