I have already warned dh not to come near me tonight or I will rip his head off and try and extract alcohol from his blood, the Fragrant Boys understand mum is a bit snappy tonight, but I need more distraction to stop me exploding in a rage of alcohol withdrawal. Awful isn't it, that the body can be so pushy in its demands for BOOZE!!!!!

So, go and have a look in your vegetable box, store cupboard, fridge etc, see what's out of date and needs using up and I'll make dinner for you, on the interweb of course. Or does anyone want any ideas for upcoming catering events?

TIA

I have previously admitted on this board that I do love bread & dripping.. I close the kitchen door so nobody can see me. it is my next best dirty secret after MN

Something that uses up cold chicken but isn't risotto or curry, can be cooked by my au pair (competentish cook but doesn't really seem to like food) and eaten by my children (reasonably unfussy but rather plain-eating 5 and 7yo) and me and DH (distinctly more sophisticated than the DCs, but hate shell-fish and creamy sauces).

right, Issy, what kind of chicken is it? Is it breasts or the pickings of a roast bird?

For the kids I would say a bed of maggi/super noodles with the microwaved chicken shredded on top. That is a piece of piss in anyone's book

and as for you and DH, well are you sending the au pair to the shops between now and dinner time?

Can I recommend a non alcoholic drink for you to make??

Lots of crushed ice in a ling glass, splash of balsamic vinegar, lots of cut up ripe strawberries, top up with cloudy old fashioned lemonade. Fabbola

popsycal · 29/05/2008 16:38

Issy - the sauce on the pasta really isn't creamy at all.

Honest
Give it a go

hello are you still open?

want to say thanks awfully for friend rice idea, will do, most definitely

still interested in your flapjacks recipe even tho popsy's looks great - I have some condensed milk to use up

suzywong · 30/05/2008 13:11

Hello capp,
yes open tonight, I really feel like gnawing my own arm off though.

The last time I made flapjacks they were very well received:

Melt 2 tbsps butter with 3 of golden syrup and 4 of brown sugar and a dash of vanilla essence and 1tbsp of condensed milk

Add to 2 cups of oats, some dessicated coconut and some chopped dates and a pinch of salt.

Bake in usual way, let cool for 5 minutes and then score portions and let cool all the way down.

Next!

um... recipe for barbeque spare ribs (you know the ones like you get in sauce from the chinese), and chicken chow mein please!

are you a chef?!

I too am off the booze SW. I am keeping my spirits up with one Bailey's filled chocolate liqueur a day.

I need help with a vegetarian recipe that I can prepare beforehand and slap in my hosts oven. It must also be low fat, so no cheese (or at least just a smattering of low fat gratings). But not inedible, and preferably without lentils.

Ingredients whatever my tiny little woolworths has in stock but can be padded out with our posh organic/poncey deli.

Oh and ideally should look like I've spent hours and have several michelin stars but in reality is up to my cooking ability which is erm, sort of homemade pasta sauce level. Definitely not pastry or home made pasta competent.
