I have already warned dh not to come near me tonight or I will rip his head off and try and extract alcohol from his blood, the Fragrant Boys understand mum is a bit snappy tonight, but I need more distraction to stop me exploding in a rage of alcohol withdrawal. Awful isn't it, that the body can be so pushy in its demands for BOOZE!!!!!

So, go and have a look in your vegetable box, store cupboard, fridge etc, see what's out of date and needs using up and I'll make dinner for you, on the interweb of course. Or does anyone want any ideas for upcoming catering events?

TIA

did the maggots come with the mouldy pigeon? or did you have to buy them seperately

i take it from waitrose

mankymummy · 29/05/2008 13:46

Olive for your maggots...

flatten them with a meat basher, rub over skin of dead mouse, dip in egg, then flour, then breadcrumbs. Deep fry...

"Magoot escalape a la arome de squished Mickey"

mankymummy · 29/05/2008 13:47

sorry didnt read your post properly, mixed up my ingredients a bit. thought you had a mouldy mouse!

Cappuccino · 29/05/2008 13:47

you can make pigeon pie with your mouldy pigeon olive

I think if you chop and fry the maggot it will add seasoning

or you could stick it on a hook and use it to catch a fish

Oliveoil · 29/05/2008 13:47

I have eaten grubs and some sort of ant (Kakadoo National Park)

maggots I found in the office bin outside

WWW is doing this diet atm suzy annd has lost tons

mankymummy · 29/05/2008 13:48

or you could put the maggot in your ear and it will eat all the wax thus saving you the cost of cotton buds. then you can afford to go out and buy some decent ingredients !

suzywong · 29/05/2008 13:48

nailpolish - makerel

(this is doing me good, I'd be on my second glass of red this time on a usual Thursday evening)

Get your fish monger to filet it for you.
Put the grill on high
like the grill pan with foil
in a teacup mix two teaspoons of mustard, two tablespoons of ketchup, salt and pepper and one teaspoon of brown sugar and a splash of vinegar.
Slash the filets three or four times diagonally thought not all the way through and put them under the grill skin side up for 2 mintues.
Take the grill pan out and then brush with the mustard mix and put them back under the grill for 4 or 5 minutes i.e. just when they go nicely brown but not black.
Have them straight away with a green salad with added tomatoes and finely sliced red or spring onions.

Ooooo I didn't know you'd been to Kakadu

Cappucino, I make my flapjacks with condensed milk so I'm afraid I'm no help to you there, sorry.
When you say "will only eat kedgeree" is that a taste or texture thing, do you think? That will give me something to go on.

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 29/05/2008 13:51

oooh that sounds lovely

I am a bit funny on eating fish skin though, does it go all crispy with that yummy sauce thing?

Cappuccino · 29/05/2008 13:56

suzy taste I think but maybe also the dryness

I don't mind condensed mik, just not Nigella's one

HolidaysQueen · 29/05/2008 14:00

suzywong - i really need inspiration tonight! thanks to a slightly batty friend, i have a fresh coconut, a marrow and a butternut squash. I then have the usual basics - rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, spices, onions, potatoes, cheese, milk etc. any ideas? particularly for the coconut...

MarsLady · 29/05/2008 14:01

Okay... I have... um.... um.....

sea bass
scallops
potatoes
sweetcorn

um........... um...............

milk
butter
a non working breadmaker
tins of tomatoes
pasta

hmm........... need to go food shopping!

MarsLady · 29/05/2008 14:01

Your flapjack recipe please floozy!

suzywong · 29/05/2008 14:10

OO, you can scrape the flesh away from it easily

Marslady, sea bass and scallops, there's a woman who lives close to Purkiss's!

right, Capp, I think you need to do like I do with ds1 and get the fried rice technique down pat then you can hid all manner of goodness in it

For fried rice you need cooked rice that is at least a day old and has been in the fridge for 24 hours.
Have you considered poaching some chicken to vary the fishy goodness?

So you heat some ordinary oil and some sesame oil in a frying pan, put in any vegetables she will tolerate and strif fry them for a couple of minutes, then add the chicken or protein part, then the rice. Really coat the rice with the oil and keep prodding at it to stop it clumping, in fact I alway sprinkle it in to make sure it's separate. If you she will take an egg, now is the time to push some of the rice aside so you can see the bottom of the pan and break the egg in and start stiring it round until it's starting to set and then stir it in to the rice, that way it will be like what you get in the chinese takeaway. Season with tamari, or soy or thick treacley sweet ketchup manis.

HolidaysQueen - did you decide what to do for the wedding cake in the end?

right, now this will keep my mind off the shiraz.
I am thinking something Indonesian like a butternut squash rendang with a fresh coconut sambal. I will have to think harder and will get back to you.
However the marrow and the coconut I simply cannot marry up. They are polar opposites in the world of horticulture. sorry.

you are full of good ideas, am hungry now

how did you get your son to eat rice, dd1 still refuses, 2 years of trying...

(

suzywong · 29/05/2008 14:18

oh here we got for the coconut sambal, here's a sri lankan recipe

1 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp ground red chili
2tsp ground paprika
2 tsp of blachan or dried prawn paste - this is fairly major player - do you have any asian grocers' nearby you could dash to?
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 chopped onion
125g of fresh grated coconut

mix dry ingredients, sprinkle on lemon juice, and onion and stir well, add 2 tbsp boiling water, stir well again
mix in fresh grated coconut immediately before serving.

I also have a recipe for pumpkin curry from sri lanka for which you could use the butternut squash
