Continuing one of my favourite threads on MN. I've tagged everyone who's been on the thread this year, but it's not an exclusive club - the more the merrier!

@Kim I found this book and its predecessor absolute gamechangers for me in understanding how to create successful dishes. Both a joy to read for the prose as much as the information she imparts.

I got one of these for Christmas so have been madly fermenting everything ever since - some more successful than others. Weirdly (and with no small amount of relief) since I started eating fermented food every day, my eczema has disappeared. The only other time that happened was when I was having chemo which while brilliant for cancer seems a bit overkill for eczema.

Hi all.
I've been on this thread in the past, though not for quite a while.
Last night I cooked
Bengali Fish Curry from 30 min Mowgli.
An interesting one because it uses mustard & mustard oil instead of garlic & ginger. It was certainly different to any other curry I've ever had before - tangy & punchy & really grew on me.
Tamarind Salmon from 30 min Mowgli.
Absolutely delicious.
Chicken korma from 30 min Mowgli.
Predictably great.
Cardamom Rice from 30 min Mowgli.
Just the best rice ever.

Would you mind sharing the korma recipe too please?

Just made Creamy Baked Prawn Rice from Long Day, Cook This by Justin Tsang and it went down a storm. It’s the first recipe I have made from this book so it bodes well for future meals. I would say that the amount of rice per person is madness, and I have a good appetite- 200g per person! It will be a regular in this house. Apologies but I was unable to find the recipe online, if yiu would like the recipe feel free to make contact.

Please may I have this recipe too? So happy I found this thread!

home-style dishes that are simple to prepare and full of flavor. From comforting one-pot meals to light, fresh ideas perfect for busy days, there’s something for everyone to try.

Double lemon sandwich biscuits, Nicola Lamb, Kitchen Projects
Sooooo lemony! It should go without saying, but I was taken aback by how strong the flavour was, especially with the filling which I was expecting to be mild and sweet given the quantity of white chocolate, but was so tangy.

Cantonet · 22/02/2026 11:18

@ARunnerwithNoShoes the Chicken Korma is attached.

Chinese fried cabbage - Marion’s Kitchen
This was fine, but nothing to write home about and I probably won’t make it again

Chianti and red chicory risotto - Meera Sodha
I enjoyed this, even though I ended up really overcooking it. There was a suggestion in the comments to serve with scamorza, which I couldn’t find so used burrata and smoked salt instead. I actually think that a firmer mozzarella would have been better, but maybe if it wasn’t overdone I wouldn’t think so.

Rigatoni with corn, greens and ricotta - Anna Jones, One: Pot, Pan, Planet
Corn, cheese and chilli never fails for me. This was super simple and I’ll definitely be making it again.

Tomato and Parmesan linzer - Nicola Lamb, Sift
This was wonderful. The tomatoes were sweet and sharp, the pastry was so crumbly and delicious. I also risked not peeling because I had cherry tomatoes and the idea of peeling the best part of 1kg cherry tomatoes didn’t spark joy and it was still brilliant. I made the jam the day before and it came together pretty quickly on the day for lunch with friends.

Nearly forgot, I also made this delicious Blackcurrant & Chocolate Cake. Very easy to put together and can be served with cream, ice cream or on its own. A wonderful way of using the blackcurrants in the freezer.

Black Currant Chocolate Cake

This black currant chocolate cake is baked like an upside down cake with a layer of sugared black currants that become soft and jammy.

https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/celeriac-mushroom-cheddar-pie Substantial veggie pie. Tasty and filling, I used dried tarragon but other than that followed the recipe.

SummaLuvin · 01/03/2026 13:55

Shoyu Poke, Ian Fujimoto
Really enjoyed this simple marinade for the tuna, it made for a light and tasty meal.

Sichuan Pepper & Cumin-Spiced Lamb & Mushroom Lasagne, Ed Smith, mob
I felt only 50g of mince per potion felt mean so I upped it to 75g, and I was still concerned that the meal would seem scant. However, served with focaccia it was the perfect size, I think my concerns would have been valid had I been serving with no sides or just a green salad.

Fig Leaf Pandan Flan, Nicola Lamb, Kitchen Projects
This was a doodle to make, even with the coconut maple crumb. It released easily from the tin which was my main worry. I really loved this pudding, not too sweet and had lovely texture.

Lentil and mushroom hotpot
Really nice comfort food vibes. I didn’t parboil the potatoes and don’t think I needed to.

I've been rubbish at remembering to post but made this great cake last week - one of the best I've made for a while!

Gnocchi with leeks and harissa - Rukmini Iyer
I was skeptical if the leeks would cook properly and I was right to be wary. I also didn’t love the balance of the dish. There’s definitely a great dish which can be made with leeks harissa and gnocchi but unfortunately this isn’t it. It’s the first gnocchi dish the baby hasn’t totally rejected though!

Tamarind chickpeas with cavolo nero - Rukmini Iyer
This was really good with flatbreads, and perfect for a midweek effort vs taste vs health balance. My lemon went bad so didn’t have the pickled onion and with the sharpness from the tamarind don’t miss it.

An aubergine week!

Sami Tamimi, Boustany - Roasted Aubergine Fatteh – Fattet Makdous
This would be a great prep ahead recipe. Very simple to pull together, I held back some of the pitta chips from the base to have some crunch on top, also subbed the nuts for pine nuts as that was what I had in.

Ixta Belfrage, Fusao - Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Spiced Aubergine Ragout
I didn't make the gnocchi, life is too short. A very easy midweek winner, would make again!

Emily English - Thai Coconut Cod Curry
Have had my eye on this for a while, a really tasty and easy one pan dish. I only made it for one so I'm going to use the rest of the sauce to do one of those viral dumpling traybakes this weekend.

SummaLuvin · 15/03/2026 20:53

Vaca atolada, Ixta Belfrage, Fusao
Super rich and super delicious! As it was a braised dish it took it while, but the hands on time was minimal.

side note: @mumsnet can my previous post please be reviewed? It's been hidden for a week and I don't believe there is anything breaking rules included in it.

Charred Cauliflower with Peanut Sauce
I don't know if I'm making fewer new recipes or if I'm forgetting I've made them and consequently not shared here! Anyway, I have made and remember making Sophie Wyburd's Charred Cauliflower with Peanut sauce (on MOB but need subscription)
Delicious and very easy to make (although caramelising onions for 40 minutes means its not a bung it in the oven and forget about it affair)

I’ve not been here for a while, I’ve only made a handful of new recipes most of which I’ve forgotten, but have stuck to my New Year’s resolution of a new bake per month this year! I’m determined to get back to new recipes though.

Sweet potato, ginger and coconut stew - Anna Jones, One: Pot Pan Planet
Really good, and the toasted pumpkin seed topping was great and something I’ll probably borrow for other similar dishes

Ultimate chocolate cake - Nicola Lamb, Sift
I made this for my baby’s first birthday and it was incredible. I’m not generally a big fan of chocolate cake but it was texturally spot on, not too sweet and really chocolatey. I also found it much easier than some of the other recipes in the bake in a day section because the components were simple and with some acetate the assembly was also pretty easy. She didn’t say how much of the frosting to add and I ended up with some left over, which was great as an ice topping too because it solidified on the cold ice cream.

Chewy chocolate chip cookies - Sally’s Baking Addiction
These were really good, but not exactly what I was looking for which are a bit thinner. I feel like I had the perfect thin and chewy cookie recipe about 15 years ago and I’m chasing that. But these were still delicious, baked really well and I’m very happy I have cookie dough in the freezer ready to bake.
