Today I've used my air fryer to ...

Following on from the thread about an air fryer changing your life, I was disproportionally annoyed about the number of rather snobbish posters who are clinging on to the idea that we all just use our air fryers for chips and nuggets.
I have no idea why this annoyed me so much - and I have no idea why I feel the need to defend my use of my AF, as a keen cook.
So, it got me thinking about how I use mine, and I thought it would be interesting to show all those who think they are a little bit too common for them what they can be used for.
This week, I have used mine for:

Tuesday: Jacket potatoes for lunch, sausages and black pudding for all-day breakfast
Wednesday: Cooking tuna pasta bake made on the hob
Thursday: Roast pumpkin for Thai pumpkin soup, cook salmon and meatballs for dinner
Today: Apple and blackcurrent baked oats for breakfast.

Anyone want to join in?

I also use it every morning to cook part-baked baguette for my son's packed lunch

roast vegetables
baked apples

Great idea for a thread.

I have owned an air fryer for a grand total of 3 days. So far we’ve done:

Pret pain au chocolate
Tofu for a noodle soup
Bean burritos to make them crunchy
Garlic bread to go with pasta pesto

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/11/2024 17:09

Ooh, perfect thread timing. I’m considering one but wondering what all I can use it for.

I love cooking and I love my airfryer. One thing I haven't attempted is Yorkshire puddings as seen on Facebook. Has anyone had success with these?

BuzzieLittleBee · 15/11/2024 17:10

This week...
Toasted bagels for breakfast
Cooked sausages for toad in the hole (8 mins vs 25 in the oven)
Made arancini with leftover risotto (granted not something I'd do often, but was 5 mins of prep with the airfryer and made the BEST lunch)
Cooked meatballs
Roasted a cauliflower for cauli cheese
Fishfingers for a ff sandwich
Cooked paneer to go into a curry (just cubed and put in dry)

I think that's it. But it will get used at the weekend to roast butternut squash, and maybe jacket pots to go with dinner tonight.

I tried toad in the hole in it and it wasn't great.
Are you making your yorkies from scratch? Maybe give it a go and see if it works, but I'd be sceptical.
If you're reheating Aunt Bessies, then air fryer would be fine!

chattyness · 15/11/2024 17:13

don't use every day, but wasn't intending to use it exclusively anyway
tuesday : an everything deep pan pizza
yesterday: steak pie and chips
today, salmon fillets, roast potatoes, roast tomatoes & mushrooms

nbee84 · 15/11/2024 17:14

Today I made garlic and herb croutons to go with my homemade soup.

Yeah I mean from scratch. (Have chucked a few aunt Bessie ones in from time to time!). People on this airfryer Facebook group I’m in have had success using little metal tins but I’ve only just mastered from scratch oven ones, don’t want to waste batter.

Fartooold · 15/11/2024 17:20

Monday: fajitas
Tuesday: Lasagne ( leftovers from freezer)
Yesterday: Jerk Salmon, rice and beans
Today: jacket spud with leftover fajita chickeny stuff

Im on my own and love the air fryer for reheating frozen portions. I'm still struggling with the cooking for one concept🤣

I saw airfryer TITH on Instagram and was keen to try it. It just didn't rise very well. It was passable, but nowhere near as good as the oven.

I only ever make yorkies with roast beef, so the oven is on anyway for the meat and pots, so there's no need to use the airfryer. Although it's probably in use for some kind of veg dish to go with the roast anyway!

Tonight will roast a chicken in mine and do some new potatoes in a drizzle of olive oil in t’other side, come out somewhere between baked and roast.

This week have pre-cooked meatballs before adding to sauce, browned nice sausages for casserole, roasted BNS for soup.

Lovebthe fact that you’re not having to faff and turn sausages, meatballs, potatoes - and yes, occasional chips - giving them a shake to cook evenly so much easier.

Riverswims · 15/11/2024 17:54

following. sold my house so I'll have room for an air fryer in the next one 👍🏽

Lovelysummerdays · 15/11/2024 17:57

I use my air fryer a lot so finished off the half side of salmon. I colour it in the pan first. Then do the veggies in the salmon pan whilst it finishes off. Also cooked a sticky toffee pudding from the freezer. Will do baked potatoes tomorrow for lunch.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 15/11/2024 18:27

Mines the ninja 9in1 so cheating a bit but this week we've had chips in it, dehydrated some orange slices for making wreaths and I've used it on the slow cook function to make a chicken pho today!

EmpressaurusKitty · 15/11/2024 18:27

I love air frying marinated tofu. I usually do it in a tin & chuck some veg in near the end.

Also halving a homemade sourdough roll, adding almond butter & slices of cheese & grilling it in there for a couple of minutes. Perfect post-gym snack.

DCINightingale · 15/11/2024 18:33

Just used mine to toast some cashews as part of a, admittedly weird, roast veg pasta dish

villamariavintrapp · 15/11/2024 19:15

Okra fries! Buy one for them alone, they're amazing.

ladymalfoy45 · 15/11/2024 19:18

@villamariavintrapp ooooooo recipe please!
Has anyone done kale crisps?

louderthan · 15/11/2024 19:21

Crispy salt and pepper tofu
Roast chicken thighs
Super crispy bacon
Sausages
Mini mac and cheese
Roasted beetroot and carrots
All manner of roasted veg: peppers, courgette, red onion, garlic, cherry tomatoes, aubergine etc etc
Use it to heat naan, garlic bread, baguettes etc
Basically everything I'd use an oven for, but it cooks twice as quickly and evenly.
Haven't turned the oven on since Christmas

Enca · 15/11/2024 19:27

I’ve made little chicken kofta which are currently in one drawer, and then some M&S Greek flatbreads are in drawer no. 2.

GeorgeTheFirst · 15/11/2024 19:31

Harissa salmon with baked sweet potato. With spinach with lemon and marscapone done on the hob.
Thick sourdough toast (I sliced it too thickly to go in the toaster) with real butter and home made marmalade

villamariavintrapp · 15/11/2024 19:33

@ladymalfoy45 okra friess* here you go! So good and so easy. I use cornflour instead of arrowroot, but basically half loads of okra, shake with oil, then shake with the spice/cornflour mix and stick in the air fryer.

FizzingAda · 15/11/2024 19:34

Onion bhajis. I love them, but hate deep frying (never do it), and the smell lingers for days. Hardly any oil used in the AF, and they are almost as good as real thing without the million calories and stinky kitchen. And soooo much better than the doughy things from a supermarket.
