Can we talk about Gin?

After G&T spanish inquisition by over zealous barman at restaurant last night I wondered if there were any Gin experts on MN today.

I am interested in:

What is your fave brand, and can you tell the difference?

Do you drink it with anything other than tonic?

Lemon. Lime or something else in with it?

Hello, this thread is a little old now. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite gins.

I have no tonic

Pointydog if you read the thread you will see Gordon's gin has been mentioned a few times

  • I never realised there were so many gins until I looked at the gin link above I want to have more gin in the cupboard.

I can't drink for another 5 weeks

AND DH is away on business swanking it up in the Malmaison in Liverpool . Still, at least it means I can watch Property Ladder and MN in peace...

I love Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire. Tried Tanqueray because apparently it's James Bond's brand, and I love it! But I had the most perfect G&T 2 years ago at the Billesley Manor in Warwickshire - ice, Bombay Sapphire, fat tonic, slice of lime and a tiny tsp of lime juice. Sooo nice! (and that I had it on a terrace watching the sun go down while waiting for our first grown-up dinner without DD since her birth - she was upstairs with a babysitter - and that it was the first alcohol I'd had since stopping bfing helped a lot too!)

Have you tried Hendricks - with tonic and cucmber - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Or sloe gin!

There is a shop here that does casks of drifferet flavoured gins - I was once a wee bit tipsy in charge of a buggy as a result of some taste testing in order to buy some for my brother!

lovecat · 16/04/2008 21:32

Ooooh, I love SLoe gin!

Must try Hendricks when I can drink again...

"Pointydog if you read the thread you will see Gordon's gin has been mentioned a few times"

You challenged me, kiss and I respond!

ONe poster - yes, just one - said her favourite gin was Gordon's. Foofi I think.

ONe poster mentioned Gordon's in a long list along with every other brand of gin under the sun (I mean, she's not fussy)

One poster said Gordon;s was not her fave.

I don't think that's a resounding success for Gordon's despite getting that nob jockey Ramsay to help with their advertising.

So. Where was I. A GORDON'S COMPETITION please with sizeable prize.

aefondkiss · 17/04/2008 19:52

Pointy - but the competition is much lovelier and people like to try a variety of gin, no? I live quite near where Blackwood's gin is created... so I like to think I am supporting a local business too.(does mumsnet ever have alcoholic beverages as prizes?)

hairyhandedSteve · 17/04/2008 19:54

Gordons please! Yes, I can taste a difference, others are flatter. Like it with tonic, with lemon, with lime, with strawberries, like it with juice of a whole lime squeezed into crushed ice. Just like it
