Can we talk about Gin?

Slubberdegullion · 16/04/2008 15:44

After G&T spanish inquisition by over zealous barman at restaurant last night I wondered if there were any Gin experts on MN today.

I am interested in:

What is your fave brand, and can you tell the difference?

Do you drink it with anything other than tonic?

Lemon. Lime or something else in with it?

Hello, this thread is a little old now. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite gins.

Gordons
Slice of lime
Ice
and a nice swizzle stick

foofi · 16/04/2008 16:10

(oh, and tonic obviously)

booge · 16/04/2008 16:19

Gin, oh I love gin!! Hendricks is nice for a treat but otherwise I like Tanqueray, Plymouth, Bombay Sapphire and Gordon's.

brimfull · 16/04/2008 16:20

bombay sapphire is my fave and I can tell the difference.

London dry is awful imo.

I'm going to try a gimlet now..sounds lovely.

Can I ask for a gimlet in a pub?Would they look at me like I was mad?

PandaG · 16/04/2008 16:24

plymouth is what we usually buy, Bombay Sapphire nice, Tanqueray occasionally when out, had Hendricks once - thought it was lovely.

will drink Gordons but not my fave

full fat tonic, ice and lemon or lime

Slubberdegullion · 16/04/2008 16:35

ggirl, when I was working out in the bush in Australia I had a sudden urge for a lovely G&T and asked the delightful barlady for one, she replied

"and what the fuck is one of those if I may ask"?

I re-ordered a beer.

Bombay Sapphire & tonic, lots of ice, no lemon

aefondkiss · 16/04/2008 16:42

I like gin, full fat tonic, ice and slice.

I also like gin with fruit in, strawberries etc, or gin with pomegranate, squeezed pomegranate and tonic, plus ice.

I like most gin, blackwoodss, bombay sapphire , and
gordon's gin are all fine by me.

Vulgar · 16/04/2008 16:43

Bombay sapphire. Little tin of full fat Schweppes tonic. Ice and lemon/lime.

Gin with elderflower cordial and soda is lovely in the summer.

As is Gin & tonic and a dash of rose syrup.

It's too early tho'. Isn't it?

Slubberdegullion · 16/04/2008 16:45

Stupidly, I thought gin was gin - I have now been put straight and will get DH to pull finger and get rid of the non descript bottle at the back of our cabinet... (and the screw top wine ) before we have guests over to stay...

leakyR · 16/04/2008 16:50

Bombay Sapphire, tonic (litle can), ice, slice of lime.

Lots of ice and never ever flat tonic.

Yum.

LOL at your counting typo slubberdegullion.

leakyR · 16/04/2008 16:53

We have a dribble of that No 10 Tanqueray in the back of the cupboard. It's dynamite, but I have no tolerance for alcohol since having ds so it remains untouched.

Good stuff though.
