Can we talk about Gin?

After G&T spanish inquisition by over zealous barman at restaurant last night I wondered if there were any Gin experts on MN today.

I am interested in:

What is your fave brand, and can you tell the difference?

Do you drink it with anything other than tonic?

Lemon. Lime or something else in with it?

Hello, this thread is a little old now. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite gins.

Plymouth Gin, with a wedge of lime, lots of ice and tonic

Slubberdegullion · 16/04/2008 17:56

Oh dear, poor Cod, no Gin until June? How dreadful (seriously dreadful) I only managed just to give it up when I was pg because of the porr wee unborn baby. You must think of your poor liver&spleen along the same lines. Virgin G&T's ie no G are quite refreshing (I imagine)

Sorry DH gor diagnosis wrong....we were on the right virus lines.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2008 18:09

I like gin with a smidge of vermouth and an olive, the barest whiff of vermouth mind. Must be chilled.
My great aunt used tp drink gin and it - gin and sweet vermouth

gin rickaaayyyy - never heard of it but it sounds delicious

pointydog · 16/04/2008 18:14

Has anyone said Gordon's?

Isn't it the case that Gordon's is seen as too stuffy and dull a brand so everyone's going to say a hip name like Bombay S to liven up an old maid's drink

moodlumthehoodlum · 16/04/2008 18:14

Times are hard, thus it is the Sainsbury's 40% London Gin (the shame), but in the good old days it would be Tanquery.

brimfull · 16/04/2008 18:41

cod -god I feel for you
you'll have to think of another vice

nkf · 16/04/2008 19:01

Just had a G&T. Cheers everyone.

TheCheeseAlarm · 16/04/2008 19:02

OK - I've had a look at my gin shelf! I have at the moment: Cadenhead's Old Raj (my favourite), Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray, Plymouth, Hereford Dry Gin, Hendricks, Tanqueray 10, Sainsbury's Taste the Difference, and something in a purple bottle that I can't remember.

All are good for different moods and purposes.

I want to try this next saffron gin

I think I might have a slight gin problem...

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2008 19:04

Vulgar · 16/04/2008 19:09
