Sunday: NYE - will be sitting in with a dog terrified of fire works, might just order a pizza
Monday: Tuscan bean stew and sourdough
Tuesday: west African peanut stew
Wednesday: some sort of pie with all the leftover veg
Thursday: gochujang tofu

I am doing a Morrison's order and don't have energy to think too far so have gone for 5 days!

Order to be decided except the sweet and sour will be soon as DS has had a tough week and it's his favourite!

Jacket potatoes with tuna and salad
Chicken tray bake, new potatoes, veg
Sweet and sour chicken
Pork mince stir fry
Jamie's savoy cabbage and pancetta farfalle.

ThreeRingCircus · 25/09/2024 14:31

This week:

Mon - hot gammon sandwiches (leftover gammon from the weekend)

Tue - chicken, new potatoes and broccoli

Wed - cheesy leek pasta

Thu - cream of tomato soup with sourdough baguette

Fri - Chinese takeaway style chicken and chips but homemade (essentially oven cooked battered chicken strips and chips tossed into a pan full of cooked peppers, onions, garlic, chilli and soy sauce.)

Saturday - pizzas

Sunday - undecided but I'm leaning towards trying Nadiya's sweetcorn chowder with the leftovers made into pie filling from her programme this week.

APurpleSquirrel · 26/09/2024 12:17

This week:

Today: Bacon Egg Fried rice
Friday: Chicken Mascarpone Pasta
Saturday: pub lunch with the wider family
Sunday: Paella
Monday: Gammon, chips & veg
Tuesday: Jollof-style chicken & rice
Wednesday: Takeaway

BiddyPop · 26/09/2024 18:04

I ended up making a chicken tikka masala with added veg on Tuesday.

Last night was a Caesar salad, cold buffalo chicken wings and some cheese on crackers.

Both after getting home from work"drinks and nibbles" things that didn't have much nibbles.

Tonight I cannot face the pub night planned as I still have a tonne of work to do- so I am trying to see how I can raid the fridge (not going out as thunderstorming now).

But I have taken out chicken thighs for tomorrow night and I'll make a better plan for next week.

Sunday: roast chicken tray bake
Monday: leek and butter bean bake
Tuesday: pizza
Wednesday: DS's birthday choice, tbc
Thursday: omelettes
Friday: some sort of curry
Saturday: some sort of pasta. Maybe puttanesca.

HalloumiFries · 27/09/2024 09:04

There are some lovely ideas in the last few posts. Leek and Butter Bean Bake is defintiely something to add to my list at some point soon.

Have just sorted out my plan for the week ahead. Still using up freezer bits as much as possible. Ended out having dinner with a friend one night this week and DH got a takeaway so the sausages and lentils will move to this week instead.

Tomorrow - cheese and crackers after pub lunch
Sunday - Mediterreanean style baked cod
Monday - Chorizo broccoli pasta
Tuesday - Baked Southern-fried-style chicken, sweet potato wedges and veg
Wednesday - Out for FiL's birthday
Thursday - Braised sausages and lentils
Friday - Lamb curry
Saturday - Going to a wedding so no need to plan or prep food

Citygirlrurallife · 27/09/2024 19:50

Agreed leek and butter bean bake sounds great!

I'm not sure yet if I’ll be home much this week because of work but tentatively:

saturday: friends round so doing nectarine and fennel salad followed by beeetroot bourguignon, green beans and leaks, smashed potatoes with sage pesto followed by apple strudel and ice cream

sunday: courgette and aubergine ramen

monday: sweet pepper and chickpea stew with rice

tuesday: def not home so the rest of them will have burgers and chips

Wednesday: sardines and trout, something with potatoes, broccoli

thursday: African peanut stew

friday: I’m tempted to get an Indian takeaway…..

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/09/2024 22:33

OH is in charge of cooking for most of next week. So far he’s thinking:
vegan sausage casserole
veggie spag bol
Trinidadian chickpea doubles

TheLadyIsAVamp · 27/09/2024 22:34

We're a bit bunged up this week so lots of spicy/soupy things and comfort food and not particularly healthy.

Tonight- Slow cooker spicy chicken kimchi ramen with various toppings.
Saturday- Jacket potatoes with chilli con carne, gauc, sour cream and salsa with salad.
Sunday- Steak and sausage pie with mash and veg..
Monday - Daal with naan bread dippers and maybe a cheeky onion bhaji.
Tuesday- Cheese and potato pie with baked beans (sausages/bacon for those who want it)
Wednesday - Chunky scotch broth with part baked rolls.
Thursday - Spaghetti and meatballs

ChocNice · 29/09/2024 16:28

Joining for inspiration. No experience with planning like this. Looking in the fridge this week I need to make something with

-frozen chicken breasts
-fillets of hake
-frozen quiches
-eggs - probably egg fried rice
-a pack of polenta (hat I don’t know what to make to go with it)?
-minced beef
-homemade cream of tomato soup and part baked bread for supper
-red lentils (I love dal so probably that)
-fresh figs and ricotta

Lunch soups
leftover homemade cream of tomato soup
some kind of soup made from a butternut squash
some kind of lentil soup or dal leftovers

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/09/2024 23:25

Tonight- roast chicken dinner
M - chicken and red pepper risotto
T - sausages, chips, and beans
W - jumping on that cheesy leek and butter bean bake bandwagon
Thu - not sure - DP says he will cook but needs to wait to be inspired - ???
F - chicken fajitas
S - leek and Parma ham creamy pasta

BiddyPop · 30/09/2024 12:08

Big salad on Thursday in the end.

I ended up doing baked salmon and wilted spinach with potatoes on Friday. As the chicken wasn't thawed yet.

Feta chicken with baby roasties and baked courgette on Saturday.

Slow roasted lamb with proper gravy, roasties, baked yellow courgette and fried medley of seasonal mushrooms with garlic yesterday.

Tonight I'm out and tomorrow I have another piece of salmon if I am not meeting a colleague for food (depends on a strike here and whether she can fly home or not).

Wednesday will probably be prawn tikka masala (need to finish a jar of sauce.

Out again Thursday (they are all work events). Dd coming Friday so will decide when she's here.

ThreeRingCircus · 30/09/2024 12:37

Monday - lasagne

Tuesday - harissa roast carrots with feta and cous cous

Wednesday - mussels in garlic butter with baguette for dipping

Updating @HalloumiFries and anyone else interested in the Jamie Savoy Cabbage/Bacon dish... DH and DS loved it. Personally, I felt it needed a higher ratio of bacon to cabbage (although, to be fair, I didn't measure anything - just aimed to roughly do what he did on the TV!). Also, mine was a much smaller, younger, softer cabbage so I should have steamed it for a lot less time - the cabbage was overcooked. The pine nuts were a total game changer.

Next time I would a) add more bacon b) cook for less time c) possibly swap out the mozzarella for a swirl of cream d) consider a squeeze of lemon or perhaps some lemon zest with the pine nuts for a hit of freshness. But as both DH and DS had seconds ds actually had thirds as I think he came back an hour later and polished off some leftovers, it can't have been bad! Grin

we did it too though with facon. I would leave out the mozarellla entirely

UnimaginableWindBird · 01/10/2024 16:11

I'm glad some of you liked the idea of the leek and butter bean bake, because the rest of my household hated it and only ate the cheesy breadcrumbs topping, which made for a depressing mealtime. I did get to have the leftovers for lunch today, so it's not all bad.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2024 18:21

Which facon do you use @Citygirlrurallife ?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2024 19:07

@UnimaginableWindBird Sorry to hear about the butterbean misery and hope you really enjoyed the leftovers!

It’s Not Bacon

HalloumiFries · 04/10/2024 16:14

Ended up eating alone last night (very tasty poached eggs with spinach on toast) so we're having the sausages tonight and the lamb will stay in the freezer for another day.

Now planning for next week:

Sunday- butternut and pancetta risotto
Monday- roast butternut and chilli pasta
Tuesday- spicy chicken and cabbage noodles
Wednesday- minestrone
Thursday- veggie chilli
Friday- lamb curry
Saturday- I'm going out for a friend's birthday. DH will no doubt sort out a takeaway.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/10/2024 13:04

In no particular order:
peppers stuffed with cous cous, with Greek salad
veggie sausage and sweet potato mash with roasted shallots
veggie pasta bake with garlic bread
rice and peas with Jamaican veggie pasties and mango salsa
veggie chilli
gyoza and stir fry

SpaceOP · 05/10/2024 13:58

@halloumifries how do you do your squash pasta? I used to do one with blended cooked squash but it was a bit of a faff.

We have eked out weirdly until now and just did big shop:

Tonight: roast chicken
Tomorrow: chicken ala king
Mon: pork schnitzel
Tue: jacket potato with creamy beans and salad
Wed: spaghetti bol
Thursday: out
Friday: paella

Might move things around a little but broadly, that's it.

HalloumiFries · 05/10/2024 14:05

@SpaceOP I have a few variations, including blended versions but the easiest way - which I'll do this week, is roasted chunks of butternut sprinkled with chilli flakes, red onions also added to the roasting tin until they go a bit crispy, and sage also roasted until crisp. Mix all that through cooked pasta with a spoonful or two of creme fraiche and a decent heap of parmesan.
